Their customer support is very bad

Their customer support is very bad. I called them and asked them to set it up for me. Sergio agreed to do it, but then he did it incorrectly. Since then, we've had tons of issues. I had to call them dozens of times, pay $77 to ship it to them to replace it, and then I spoke with someone who actually understands how to set up a NAS and he told me that Sergio completely screwed up. When I called QNAP to complain, they said "It's not Sergio's responsibility to set it up for you". IT'S YOUR PRODUCT! If you design and sell a product, you should be able to set it up. If you can't, then don't tell me you can and then do it incorrectly. Also, many of the support tickets I raised with them just never got addressed. I would wait for weeks, and then follow up and they would say that the support ticket was sent to Taiwan and they didn't know the status. I never got a resolution, they never addressed it. This does not even bring up the fact that they waited far too long to address the ransomware attacks that were consistently occurring for months. They had vulnerabilities in their security, but they didn't do anything until thousands of users had been hacked, then they started releasing patches. The hardware works well when someone who knows how to set it up does that for you, but QNAP is just not a good company. You can see from the reviews on here that they are not to be trusted.

Shocking after service

Shocking after service, purchased one of the more expensive NAS's for a client before Christmas, the client then opened box at start of January, the device keeps dropping its drive, the client cannot do backups and QNAP is send parts from Taiwan for the client to fix the device, QNAP will not send an engineer to fix the problem, they will not replace the device they not issue an RMA. STAY WELL CLEAR OF QNAP People, I have never experienced a worse after sales service, QNAP had no issue receive the money for a faulty device, But the have an issue fixing it, replacing it or repairing it. I HAVE WARNED YOU DO MAKE THE MISATAKE AND THEN SAY YOU WISH YOU HAD LISTENED, QNAP won't listen to you and you won't get your money back if the sale you one of the faulty device range.

I bought a Ts-431 it worked great but was a little slow. It displayed all red lights and will not even attempt to start. It died before the randsom ware attacks. For all the users who got attacked it probably would have died anyway. All the worry over failing drive when it was the motherboard that failed.

Basic, advertised functionality missing

Purchased the QNAP QSW-M5216-1T switch. Came with a leaflet demanding firmware be updated before connection to network proper. They don't appear to have released new firmware since 2021 - switch shipped with latest, version 1.0.

The specifications list the following, quoting verbatim from their own website, emphasis mine:

'LACP

Link Aggregation (LAG) *combines multiple network connections to increase throughput* and protect against connection failure.'

The interface on the switch is very, very basic. For this section it's off the chart and supplies no useful options or information just static and LACP and neither makes any difference. No increase in throughput as the switch doesn't appear to actually have any balancing programmed into it it just uses the first link it thinks it's okay.

The NAS products have tons of options. Seems spending £1.2k for a switch doesn't merit any support either in terms of features that actually work, new software releases to address issues and fix security problems, or tech support staff that understand what this switch does.

Selling this product in this state is dubious. Not bothering to deliver a single firmware update in over a year to a flagship network device while my NAS seems to have updates ready every time I try and use it is ridiculous.

If this site allowed zero stars they'd be delivered. I want this fixed or this item gone and, once again back to Mikrotik for regular updates, functionality and a UI that doesn't read like Tomy's My First Network. It's a 16 port 25 Gbit switch: who do they think will be using these?

Such a waste of potentially great hardware crippling it with appalling firmware.

I bought 1 bay Ts131k for home storage

I bought 1 bay Ts131k for home storage. Had trouble formatting disk because in would only use RAID which showed to volumes, one so small it was unusable and the 3tb volume i could no access. Trying to contact Qnap just gave me a spiner. I finally figured how to format single volume. Went thru long set up process, registering, qlink, setting up account.
Know Qnap.com shows i have no devices, if i try to set up Qlink agin it dosen't let me because "device already set up". Old Qlink does not connect. Still cannot connect to support because of spinner on both mac and windows.

Zero support (from some employers)

After a problem with the firmware in my Qnap I wrote them a support ticket. First they sent a copy&paste useless reply showing they didn't read my initial message. Their second reply was that my NAS is out of warranty so they do not provide support, they ask me to send and pay for repair or buy a new one, but it's not a hardware failure and they are not willing to provide support to recover my system.
Not what I expected from Qnap after spending $1000 on my NAS: my data not secure after warranty period.

EDIT: I opened a second ticket and luckily a second different technician managed my ticket. This time he read and understood my ticket, and solved all the troubles, recovering my volume and my data.

If you open a ticket in Qnap Spanish support and you get answered by Vanesa Garcia, don't lose time and energies. She is incompetent and/or unwilling to solve anything. You'd better close the ticket and open a new one. Instead, Ivan Vidal has solved everything fast and clean, and 2 years ago (within warranty time) the same Ivan Vidal also solved a similar problem, so I change my review from 1 star to 4 stars thanks to him (it would be 5 stars if Qnap would not keep useless employers like the first one).

Got hit by ransomware because of qnaps bad security practise. Went to qnap site to look up what to do and because of their advised steps, I am now unable to unlock files. Even if I want to pay.
Contacted qnap customer (non)service and got crickets after that. Another request a week later and again crickets....

Product (NAS251+) is useless

Product (NAS251+) is useless, it comes with all these bells and whistles but most of them are rubbish. the machine is too complicated for its own good, qnap are trying to be clever but they are deluded in that they think that this product is good when the reality is its b0!!0x.

their customer service is a JOKE. i have never been treated so poorly by these arrogant little Geeks that think the world revolves around them and their Rubbish IT products. Its extremely UN USER FRIENDLY - Deliberately so becuse they dont use Email. ANd they talk to you like you are stupid.

AND LASTLY - their OS Is NOT Secure so if you want to avoid Malware an Ransomware - DONT Buy from QNAP (as its QCRAP).

Customer Service how it should be

Working in the film industry as an editor and shooter I put my QNAP through its paces each day with large files being streamed, backed up and written on a daily basis. My QNAP system was bought from Amazon and only a few days after the warranty was up it stopped turning on. I looked into the issue and the power supply had a common issue with my model that would die after a number of hours.

The road ahead looked daunting with repair, expensive parts, labour and shipping I was looking at a new unit as having downtime in the business is a no-go. Luckily I had the pleasure of getting a customer service agent who really understood my issue and we struck a deal after he discussed it with his manager. The deal being that if I could pay for shipping the unit to their service depot they would look at the unit and decide to ship back a new unit or a fixed one.

With my unit just out of warranty I took this agreement right away and off went the NAS. Very shortly I was told that my unit is discontinued and they'd be happy to ship back a new unit free of charge with one year warranty. This unit is about €3,000 and for them to upgrade me and offer cover when they didn't have to I was taken back by the level of support I experienced.

This is how customer service is supposed to be, look after your buyers so they come back and I most certainly will.

Thanks!

Avoid as hardly ever works

I've had a QNAP NAS for about 4 years and it's utterly woeful. When I want to watch something on Plex there's now a 70% chance it won't work because there's an issue with QNAP. Then there's the condescending support to boot (when it finally comes through). I wish I hadn't bought their hardware - take my advice and avoid at all costs.

Highend NAS

Highend NAS, really good, but with trash power supply and terrible support.

RMA goes over 3rd party shop, super slow and no commitment to error even with video proof.

I bought a home QNAP NAS (2-Bay QNAP TS-230 Desktop NAS Enclosure) in 2021. It worked well, though 12 months later one of the 3rd party disks failed, and I tried to replace it without reading how to actually do it. In short, I made the NAS inoperable. I contacted QNAP support who after understanding what had happened spend 3 hours logged onto my PC working out how to fix my mistake, with professionalism and patience (Mike, QNAP UK) did this. I have had significantly worse enterprise support - to reviece this help for a product that cost £160 (much less than Mike's time), has added a vocal advocate to this company. Thank you for raising my expectations on consumer experience David

There devices are prone to malware

There devices are prone to malware, the only way to use them effectively is to restrict them from the internet and only use them locally.
Then 1 day, 2 factor authentication stopped working, and at the same time, all my security questions wouldn't work, stopping me from actually accessing device.
The OS on their devices is RUBBISH, the worst ever, the worst thing I ever bought.

Installed the nas connected ISCSI which went ok, the next day it dropped a drive and nuked all the ISCSI connections.

I figured it wasn't the end of the world as I hardly had anything on it at the time. Rebuilt the entire system redeployed ISCSI did exactly the same thing the next day.

unfortunately had moved my DC's onto the ISCSI drive then couldn't find a way to get them off the disk. Total mess around with support which wasted a week of my time before I decided it would be faster to rebuild the entire AD domain.

Waste of money rubbish support.. don't waste your time on this crap. I wish i had spent my $3000 elsewhere.

I have had a QNAP NAS drive for about 5…

I have had a QNAP NAS drive for about 5 years.
In that time it performed well until a few days ago it was subject to a successful ransomware attack via a weakness in the QNAP firmware.

It never occured to me that criminals could access the QNAP drive and deny you access to all of your files and the last backup I did (we are taking about 600GB of data so not a trivial task) was 3 months ago. Effectively I have lost 3 months worth of data.

QNAP were aware of the problem in January and supposedly pushed a firmware fix to this vunerablity in February. Yet in spite of the fact that I have auto-firmware upgrade enabled for a daily check and update, my NAS drive firmware was not updated.

I have already spent whole 2 days unsuccessfully trying to see if there is a way of recovering my data (paying criminals is not an option) and will now have to spend at least another day reformatting drive and restoring what data I have.

To say I am unhappy with QNAP is an understatement.

QNAP NAS is a bust

Setup and configuration is very kluge. Latest firmware update caused loss of network connectivity. Advanced system reset was no help. Restoration is impossible because user settings and privileges are not saved before loss of network. This is the worst NAS I have ever had (#3).
