Rude, vile staff

We don't live in London but for around two decades each time we are in London have visited this restaurant. Currently we are in London for 2 days only and made the trek to Euston for this restaurant. We have always liked the food and nostalgia. Yesterday, though, we had a terrible experience and will never return.

I arrived with my daughter and toddler grandson. We asked for a table for three and for a high chair. There was no high chair available so my daughter sat her son on her lap (he was too small to sit on an ordinary chair) and began to feed him. Within moments, an irate and irascible man boomed that my daughter should not feed her son anything, and implied that she was feeding him on her lap to avoid paying for him. When I countered that we knew children were half price, had never suggested that we wouldn't pay, there was no highchairs and indeed had asked for a table for three; the man became even more furious. Again, accusing us of trying to avoid payment. We had been there for five minutes at this point!

My daughter asked the truly awful, angry and unprofessional man to leave us to eat, and he continued to rant and rave about us, within earshot, from behind the bar. The experience soured our entire meal and was uncomfortable and embarrassing.

Surely the approach of a stable, rational and sane person would be to simply (and politely) approach our table and remind us that children are half price? Leaving aside the fact that we had just started eating, had already asked for a table for three, hadn't challenged the measly bill and didn't need reminding..

Surely it's the height of rudeness to insult customers and accuse them of being dishonest at any time, but especially in front of other customers and staff?

Two decades of custom down the drain, we'll never return.
