Listening, watching and doing - changed my opinions on cycling
Having read book after book after book on: coaching, nutrition, recovery, tactics, bike git and got so confused as to what was what - i simply gave up.
I was then told about the podcast by a friend who was waxing lyrical about Anthonys opinions on etiquette whilst on group rides. Since listening to my first podcast to now having listened to the whole back library, The Roadman podcast is my favourite cycling podcast by far and no other cast even comes close.
The humour, the language and also, the explanations by both Anthony and his guests means that I am personally gaining so much knowledge which is then helping me whilst on my bike.
I listened and read intently all of the details about the: Roadman Not Done Yet training program and decided to give the program a go. Having somewhat 'embellished' the truth when initially speaking to Anthony about weight etc, I started working with Anthony and his team in October 25.
Having spent (what seemed) like an additional life time riding at Z1 and Z2, listening to the advice and doing the training plans as exactly outlined, I have lost more weight than I could have ever imagined, my FTP has gone up and of course my power to weight ratio or Watts Per Kilogram has increased significantly too.
The racing season has started and even with all of the work that I have done, I have still got catch up to play but, I can quite honestly say that I know that I can catch up. I have to keep on believing in the process and executing boring
This is where it gets very interesting.....listening to the podcast and following the training program my historical beliefs of: Eat less to lose weight, train harder and harder to achieve more, dont have a day off, chain gangs at least twice per week and destroy yourself, when not 'outside' - race on zwift and destroy yourself in races.....HAVE ALL CHANGED and i have literally had a 180 degree change.
Using Hexis as recommended by Anthony and Dr David Dunne - I am eating and drinking more than ever both on the bike and off the bike BUT, at the right times and with the right mixture of things such as: carbs, protein and fats which are based on what I am actually doing or have done. Training has become fun and disciplined - even though there are times where I was I could join a group ride with my pals and, I am having days off which means I am gaining brownie points at home.
I have already given my opinion of the podcast but the training program and the other group members are a breath of fresh air. How I wish that such a program and group was available many years ago. That I had stripped everything back to basics and almost started all over again from scratch without any preconceived ideas or dangerous snippets of information that I misunderstood or the person telling me had misunderstood.
I am looking forward to the coming months, seeing how far I can push myself and how high i can raise the bar or, how high Anthony and his team raise the bar for me to aim at.
