SKIO Music? More like GREEDY Music

Been using SKIO Music since I've uploaded my first remix in October 2021, and until August 2024, any user could download all the stems from those ZIP files containing them for free; I had already complained in the past, this because of their upload system, as I missed one upload on one of their remix contests and it got closed because I was close to the deadline.

However, on the aforementioned date, everything went downhill as I was feeling excited to remix Dua Lipa's "Illusion", but NO WAY, ONLY 3 STEMS COULD BE DOWNLOADED FOR FREE, WHILE THE OTHER 24 WERE BEHIND A PAYWALL!

I felt this as an impediment to have a good quality remix, especially when it comes to the need for vocal chops, which weren't available for the free users; even my own remix doesn't sound good without these vocal chops unavailable for me as a free user.

So yeah, locking the rest of stems decreased the creativity in a notorious way, and only those who would pay for the monthly or yearly subscription could have a higher advantage over those who only could pack these three free stems.

The same goes to the Warren Zeiders' remix contest, where 20 of the 23 stems are locked behind a paywall, and since most remixes are composed of the original sound effects and vocal chops, this causes remixes to sound kinda "empty" compared to those including such sound effects.

I had quitted uploading to SKIO Music because of the results: the EDM and house remixes almost always reigning the first three places, but then decided to come back after seeing that they were going to do the David Guetta remix contest; this was the last one to let anyone download all the stems for free.

Even though I made it within the top 75 users in a certain period, which I forgot, I'm planning to stop participating in these contests in the future and better contact musicians to send me their song stems so I can remix their song and get my remix officially uploaded to streaming platforms.

I've rated this with two stars instead of one as remixing songs was one of my dreams as an electronic musician, and discovering this website made me enhance/improve my musical creativity until where I'm at right now =^)

Hi, Zohar here, co-founder of SKIO. I read your whole review, and I appreciate that you have been with us since 2021 and that SKIO helped your creativity, that genuinely means a lot. You are right that the model changed in 2024. Where we are now: every member gets the essential stems needed for a quality remix and a contest to enter, with premium stems (like extra vocal chops) and more contests as part of the subscription. And worth knowing: on the free trial your remix still gets rated by our A&Rs and is eligible to win without a subscription, we cover that cost ourselves. The honest reason for the model is that we now license official stems directly from labels, and the subscription is what supports that. I would rather have you here on the trial than not at all, and if you want to talk through what would make it work for you, I am at zohar@skiomusic.com. Zohar, co-founder

Skio is a complete waste of time

Skio is a complete waste of time. They give out remix stems (a good thing), then hide most behind a paywall (a bad thing). What IS useful is that most of the time if you search, for example, 'Dua Lipa Illusion Remix Stems', the top result is in fact someone who has downloaded them all and then provides them for free, so that's a bonus I guess.
They disallow the use of your own remixes on Soundcloud, which is where most, if not all, producers get ears on their music. Avoid at all costs.

Hiding most of the stems in remix…

Hiding most of the stems in remix contest behind paywall is the new low. I never seen that kind of money grab attempt anywhere else and I had tried quite plenty of remix contest platforms. Deleted my account after an hour of usage.

Psychologically Manipulative Practices

Had to sign up for a paid account just to submit a remix to their contest. When contest closed for judging I was placed in the Top 100, which I felt was a bit high but still, was a nice confidence boost for somebody like me with low self-esteem.

However, as I've now found out, the automated system is completely misleading to the point I'd have to even ask why does it exist other than to manipulate people into your myriad of paid services? Went from Top 100 to Bottom 100, automated review scores were off by 10-20. per category and around 900 off by placement.

As an up and coming artist, I am keeping in mind how sites like this treat people, especially their customers, and if this is the way they treat people on their site then I won't be doing business with them anymore, now or ever.

Already deleted my account. Will be telling other artists and friends not to deal with this site, and to tell them to warn their friends as well. Making money is one thing, but psychologically manipulative practices are something I can't and won't tolerate.

I never expected to win the contest, just entered it to have fun, but nothing fun about getting ones legs cut out from under them by going from Top 100 to Bottom 100, with zero explanation as to why the ratings were so drastically different to the point of psychological whiplash. Absolutely horrible business practice, and horrible thing to be doing this day and age to people that may be psychologically vulnerable.

Also I have the receipts (screenshots) of the ratings and rankings pages showing no indicator that the scores may be inaccurate or are placeholders, and the only part that either page says is automatically generated is the listeners section on the bottom half of the ranking page. It never says anything about the other numbers being grotesquely inaccurate or placeholders, including on the score page where nothing is mentioned.

No Future.

Hello, World...

1) Since the end of 2023, skio only takes a certain number of "Uploads"(300 to 500) and you have to agree that you don't will let others peoples than Skio hearing your remix. If (it was my case) they reach the total they wanted, you end up with a remix only you can hear!!!
2) Since 1 week i can't sign in with my (G)Mail on Skio. First, i try to login with another computer that is, or so, under Linux (latest debian 12.5 Bookworn with the latest Firefox) but it did'nt work. I then try to get in with Microsoft Windows 10 with Firefox too, and gess what...does'nt work at all. I try to write to them to have an explanation about, but like always on Skio, "no answers". Now i have no clue on how to cancel my subscription with them cause this time they completely loose my trust an them.
Chrys.

P.S.: I can sign in again, and finally deleted my account. Don't forget to delete your music too.

Screwing everyone Over

Guess what?
With my experience with skio, I recently discovered how BS it really is. I entered into an original contest. I was on the top page before the results were announced with 4.5k plays. Now, when I go back to look at the results, I have been pushed down from the top page to the 15th page. Even though I have a good song, the ratings are inconsistent throughout all contests. Another contest I participated in was a remix one. I had felt really good about what I made. I did not win, of course, but I wanted to see how I did. I paid for the feedback and ratings, and guess what? I never got my ratings. I even emailed their support team and never heard back from them.

From what I can tell, Skio is a complete waste of potential artists. It may seem like the contests are good, but in reality, unless you pay for a subscription (OVERPRICED...) then you basically are posting your music to nothing of value, and it's a waste of your time. I don't think I want to even try to enter one of their contests ever again, or post my music there. It just is not worth me spending my time working on something I love, feeling really good about it, only to get absolutely destroyed in their ratings, resulting in my depression kicking in.

Skio sucks. I do not even want to go back there anymore. It sucks because I love making music, and I was hoping Skio would be a good place for me to get noticed and perhaps find a way to break through all the extra noise in the industry. Seems like unless I pay, it will never happen on their platform.

It is a Bad theme

At a point I was rated 75th in the whole thing. now, I am still under 100th position, Consider 3 things:
1 - they started to close in on free users.
2 - I can't find a winner, one band or label gives 600 dollars and gets rights to 500 songs - Not much of a win - win situation.
3 - Rating system is Super inconsistent, Gives you near to nothing as long as feedback goes.

I purchased a demo feedback and received nothing

I purchased a demo feedback service, since i wanted a fresh feedback on a song i was working on. I spent 40$. I got no feedback(they promise you a detailed feedback) just a score in the section "idea", but that is absolutely not what they say the service is about.
I contacted them through the contact form on their website without getting any answer; same as contacting directly the A&R how did the "review" of my song; therefore i decided to text them on instagram, finally getting an answer saying they would have checked and then gave me a coupon to get an other feedback and also the feedback of the song i was asking for. i sent them also screenshots to prove the "error"(if that was an error) they made. Well, nobody got back to me. Everything was extremely disappointing, guys don't lose your money with that.

Just spent a lot of time making a remix…

Just spent a lot of time making a remix for a competition and when I went to submit the track it said the contest is full, even though the contest page says it's still open and I got a notification reminding me to submit my entry. So all of that work only to find out the moment I clicked "submit" that I could not submit it!
Very frustrating.

They Stripped My...

I entered a competition and it said my track was under review to be accepted.. it's still in the under review status a month later and the competition has ended.. my remix never got listened to because it still hasn't been accepted, I paid good money for mastering the track and was stripped of the opportunity to get it out to the public.

SKIO MUSIC IS OUT RIGHT A SCAM.

SKIO MUSIC IS OUT RIGHT A SCAM.

Please if you are an aspiring artist go as far away as possible from Skip.

My experience was as it follows:

They contacted me and said they would like to work with me as an artist. I paid a fee and then got ghosted by them.

If you are an artist please don't fall for it,it's a waste of your hard earned money,

I payed 28$ for written feedback and received nothing (turns out it was my mistake)

I payed 28$ for a review.
I did not receive a written review, only a rating even though when you purchase it, it says you'll get written feedback.

I tried to contact them on 3 different contact addresses.
One on the website, one to their infomailaddress and one to their community mail address.

They did not reply to any mail.

Just a warning for anyone else wanting to get some feedback on a song

Edit: turns out it was my mistake. I had confused a song feedback with a song rating. Those are 2 different options. I accidentally picked the wrong one. That's why I only received a song rating.

Someone from skio reached and explained it a few times, before I understood. So kudos for his patience.

Negative Experience, lost subscription money

I've been with SKIO for a couple of years. I have a subscription with them for two years and 2400 credits on my balance. I used credits earlier for feedback to a couple of my tracks.

Some time ago, I found that I cannot buy samples anymore and use credits for feedback because a new and more expensive subscription plan appeared. But I didn't want to lose my credits as well. I wrote in the support to clarify what I can do with the credits, and will I be able to use them if I upgrade to the $20 plan? I just wanted to clarify some questions, but I didn't receive any replies. A few months later, I wrote again. Nothing!
Today, I will cancel my subscription and lose all my 2400 credits with a bitter taste after using the service because I cannot do anything with the credits now, which I carefully stored when I need them the most + because CS doesn't reply.

Initially, I was thrilled to find the service and gladly supported it, sending a couple of my works when I could, but now I changed my mind. It became much more expensive, commercial and not customer friendly.

This is how I see that; this is my experience.

Genuine, sincere, constructive feedback.

There are so many "great vibes, come listen to my song" comments, fishing for clicks and plays around, and a real lack of genuine, sincere, constructive feedback. The SKIO insight reports have been great for someone new to remixing. The tips and guidance have given me specific areas to work on and improve and I'll be taking that feedback on board for all my future works.

All you need is feedback

Feedback is the most important thing you need to hear if you want to improve your music or understand how is being listened by other people. I personally have a few friends that I ask for feedback before releasing any song but honestly Skio Music feedback is another level. They carefully hear your song and point out elements you could add.
Ever time I buy a insight report from Skio it points me different things to be aware of or things you didn't notice before because you got very used to it...
And that's why I recommend buying reports every time you enter a contest, that way you understand what you need to improve or why your song wasn't the winner.. They never say your song it's bad, they simply point out what you can do to be in the top, whether if it's mixing, mastering of arrangement...
I already had one mentorship call with an industry professional A&R and I can tell its life changing, so many things you can learn by someone who made it in the industry and also by have one it creates a relationship and that it's gold!

SKIO Music's review was an amazing tool…

SKIO Music's review was an amazing tool to help me grow as an artist! I loved the feedback I received and found it very constructive. The interface was very cool too! there are tons of metrics that they judge you on like creativity, originality, mixing and mastering. I'd recommend you use the A&R feature at SKIO to help see where you're at as a producer and then you can grow.
