I had solar panels installed less than three years ago by Solar Services Scotland, 83 Cadzow Street, Hamilton ML3 6DY but now the system is not working. SSS sent an electrician out at the beginning of March 2026 and he diagnosed a Riso Low fault, but since then I have been unable to speak to anyone in authority and keep getting fobbed off. The work was paid for by my insurance company and is still under guarantee so I don't see the problem. I would advise anyone thinking about using this company to think twice as I don't know if it is still operating?

Solar Services Scotland installed our ground mounted solar panels and the battery storage.
They did a tidy job, but we weren't entirely happy with the installation orientation and positioning.
I asked them to review our installation, and they did! They came back and repositioned the panels to ensure I was happy with the result. Very pleased with this service.
Only thing I would say is I wished I had asked more questions about ground mounting as we may have done some preparation prior to them coming. I assumed they would carry out any groundwork rather than them being placed on a slope. However, any fears I had about them staying put seem to be unfounded as they have survived the storms so far.
I also should have asked about the battery set up as I would have preferred that we had a back up in the event of a power cut. This is still an option, but I could have been better informed. We have had a power cut since then and they were very helpful in ensuring everything was back on as it should be.
I thought about giving them 4 stars but the after sales customer service was excellent and I think I should have done a bit more research myself. They don't just install and leave you to it, they are still there for post installation support which is very reassuring.
Update February 2026: the panels fell over in the wind just before christmas. It wasn't even that windy, so it appears our concerns were valid after all. They finally came back to reinstall them last week but we arranged to have a digger and operator on site this time at our cost to ensure the ground mounted buckets were sunk deep enough - they were going to hand dig! Not entirely happy yet as they didn't bring all the relevant spares with them, so yet another visit will be required. Down to 4 stars now and may just be less depending on how long we have to wait again.

After a few months of research for a new solar solution and various online companies offering absolute garbage technology, I decided to do my own research and found Sigenergy hardware. From there I checked their approved installer register and found Solar Services Scotland.

To be honest, from my first interaction and call with Jim from Solar Services Scotland, I felt like he was experienced and an organisation that wanted to provide a good service.

Jim took time to tell me about the company background and some of the projects they have worked on. Easy to see the calibre and credentials they have.

Jim was not trying "the hard sell" but was invested in ensuring I was getting the correct solution and also suggested potential funding routes with cashback and grants that could be available. This was key to me choosing Solar Services Scotland as my installer.

Sigenergy is a reasonably new hardware vendor to the market but if you are considering solar and battery install and haven't heard the name then I'm not sure what out of date rag you are getting your information form? It's leagues ahead of the competition in so many ways and if you think Tesla is the way to go, then not much would change your mind at this point with Musk's toxic brand.

I have to say I was very apprehensive about the solution cost and putting that trust in an organisation, but Jim and his team really put my mind at ease. Discussing their credentials, the professional bodies such as MCS and HIES they are enrolled and qualified in. Naturally I checked the professional registers to confirm this and it was easy to find. MCS -Solar Services (Scotland) Ltd. I saw a review questioning this... But its clearly there to be found.

The install was sooner than I expected and the install team were fantastic. Friendly and informative, they kept me up-to-date on the install, times and talked me though the system with options based on different use scenarios. I was very impressed. One of the install team is the son of one of the business owners and he took time to talk through what his role was and what the company meant to the family. I am very much in support of local family business.

The commissioning was an absolute breeze, and even on an overcast day I was thrilled with the solar generation and the Sigenergy app.

Scott the technical lead knows his stuff! He takes time to talk though the design and what "good" looks like. He is very personable, like all of the team. He also talked through best practice with a solar system. This was invaluable for a someone new to solar like I was.

A few weeks on, I have had the various paperwork through promptly and very happy with the after care service. I have had a small amount of bird netting clips pop off and when I mentioned this, they were out with urgency to check it was all performing as expected and add additional fixings.

I have to say my experience has far exceeded my expectations and I genuinely hope that anyone considering solar and or a battery installation has such a pleasant journey and install.

And on that note, I highly recommend talking to Solar Services Scotland for your install. 4 of my friends and family are already looking at their options and one has already installed with Solar Services Scotland with a similar feedback.
Overal I found them to be very knowledgeable, approachable, informative and very competitive.

The feedback I have to Solar Service Scotland is don't undersell the insurance backed install, it's important and some people may not understand what HIES is and does.

Already, I am seeing a quicker return on investment than I expected. Thanks guys!

After getting various quotes which w were either not for what I wantedor just balantly expensive for no reason.
It was great to find Steven McMahon at Solar Services Scotland.
The quote was what I wanted, the price was very competitive and the communication was great at all times. Mine was a larger than average install, so extra paperwork was needed, all handled by SSS 👍
Install was done in a day and I was very impressed with the workers and the aim to do the job properly, again full marks.

From the initial consultation with Steve (McMahon) all the way through the iterations and consultation making sure I was getting exactly what I wanted/needed and understood everything fully to the installation day first class service from the entire team. It’s early days but already everything is performing fantastically well. A special shout out to the install team who worked liked Trojans for about 10 hours to get everything done in a day despite the best efforts of the weather to thwart them.

Came across these guys after my original installer went bust and left me on a right old pickle. Steve McMahon from Solar Services Scotland could not do enough. Numerous detailed phone calls and emails later we now have a Solar / battery installation that can be MCS accredited. Whilst here the 2 excellent engineers installed 2 more pure drive batteries.

All in all an excellent experience with a company that can be bothered and restores my faith in the solar industry.

After the very bad experience with the rogue Install Solar, this company came to my rescue. Initially was very sceptical as the company that installed the solar panels did not complete the job satisfactorily. But Steven put my mind to rest, organised a team to come over and inspect my system and eventually got all safety checks done and rectified any shortcomings. The team were very efficient. He got me the MCS certificate which made my system legit! I cannot thank him enough for being so helpful and put my mind at rest. What amazing customer service! Will recommend this company to anyone wanting new solar panels or even get their existing panels serviced.

I was recommended Solar Services Scotland to install solar panels by a friend. Chatted with Steven McMahon and he gave a quote based on the location of my house and the info I had given him. He then visited us on the 03/10/23 for an inspection, looked around the house and lofts, answered all our queries and explained how it all worked and where the inverter & batteries will be installed. Within a day, got the date for installation within 6 days of inspection. The installation team arrived promptly, did not waste any time, were very efficient, explained what they were doing, and never stopped till they finished. Tidied up after themselves, and the system is working very well. Very glad to see we will be saving quite a bit. I recommend this company fully. Was most impressed by the efficiency and promptness. Steven was most helpful and is customer service is exemplary.

Did exactly what they said they would. No hard sell, honest, professional and not a penny taken until completion. Waited until Home Energy Scotland loan was provided before payment!

G99 approval, MCS docs all arranged and sorted quickly by SSS, hassle-free and installation completed within 14 days of ordering.

Twenty 415W panels, Givenergy Gen3 5 Hybrid inverter and 19kwh battery all performing very well indeed.

Can't commend their approach enough. Sales & installation team were great, polite and considerate.

Quotes from other solar installers were less competitive and also typically had up to a four months wait before installation.

Would highly recommend getting a quote from Solar Services Scotland.

System has been fitted in August 22, dealt with Jim at the company. Had a 2nd fitted battery in January 2023. Developed several error codes. Contacted the company, I eventually contacted solis and puredrive who resolved the problems.
Over the year, I contacted Jim in relation to the extend warranty for the Solis inverter from 5 years to 10 years. Phoned Solis today, told company hadn't applied for extension, must done in 1st year, after a year, too late. Definitely not impressed, I had got another quote recently from Jim to extend my system, but now after going over the issues I've had, I decided against this company.
Price I was given was a "special" price, but several other companies have easily beaten it.
What companies forget, aftersales support is just as important. Solar services scotland unfortunately has forgot this.

After much research and planning I decided to go with Jim and his team. They installed my solar array and battery storage in a timely manner and with the minimum of fuss. Great work and very competitively priced. I cannot recommend these guys enough. A very professional job and personal service. I must also say that the service continued post installation with advice on setting up my export tariff and adding additional battery storage. Keep up the good work!

I started looking at solar panel installations towards the end of 2022 and had a few competitive quotes in from various installers but Solar Services were the best.

I was made to feel very much at ease with the whole process. Jim’s communication regarding my install was first class. The installation team who came to the house were polite and extremely professional and have left behind a very tidy install.

It’s now two months since my install and I have no faults or issues whatsoever and the aftercare I’ve received to answer any small questions I have are answered straight away.

I really wish I could write a positive review. Steve and Scott have been very pleasant to deal with but I’ve had ongoing issues for 4 months with one install. The Givenergy equipment was faulty which seems to be the underlying issue but it’s difficult to swallow when you as a customer are out of pocket but the company still want paid in full. I wouldn’t want someone else to go through the experience I have had. Seriously disappointed as have lost a full summer of generation and my system is not going to payback in the times originally quoted. Oh and I still have a leaky roof under one bank of panels 😕

I have contacted SolarServicesScotland a few months back, when I was still unfamiliar with the whole process and anything about solar, but Jim responded with patience all my questions. At that occasion I decided not to proceed since, unfortunately, I decided to change my roof firstly. After work in the roof was completed, I connected them again. This time I dealt more with Steven. Quickly they allocated an installation date for me. In the meantime, Steven was resolving more questions about the whole process and how the HES grant was fitting in the equation. Installation was done in a couple of days (with the system generating already after few hours). The roofers and electricians were also nice and polite and they left all clean after the work was done. Also they had all my considerations for the installation present and they responded all my curious questions.
Steven contacted me a few days after the installation to check if I was happy with everything.
I am really happy with the results so far, generating more than expected.

Company that installed my panels no longer exist, so I contacted solarservicesscotland. I was lucky to talk and resolve all the issues with Jim. Very helpful, honest and well mannered guy.
I highly recommend.

Really quick tidy job, workmen were really nice and polite and even hoovered up after themselves.

Would definitely recommend the company and definitely worth 5 🌟.

They helped me all the way with the paperwork not pushy at all and probably will still be answering my questions in 5 yrs time lol 😆 😂.

This company may be adequate for new installs as the reviews suggest but be wary of getting any servicing or repair work carried out.

After eventually getting a response, two polite fitters turned up at short notice.
All seemed to go well and was assured they would return to replace a defective panel and the ridge tile that was broken during the service.
On closer inspection to the work carried out it appears that the job has been botched from start to finish.
Many module clamps are missing nuts and some of the retaining bolts have stripped threads.
The fitters clearly didn’t have any spares with them so have simply left the panels secured with two or three clamps instead of four which means the panels are no longer securely fastened to the mounting rails.
Debris that caused a single panel to fail was just left in place and covered over by moving another panel.

Spoke to Jim several times about this and while he appears helpful on the phone, there is never a response (either phonecall or email).

It’s been over eight weeks now since the original visit so aftercare from this company is non-existent.

If this company is used for servicing or repairs, ensure the agreed work is checked carefully before making any payment as after payment has been made they’ll never return despite any promises.

If you are looking for a first class solar install then Solar Services Scotland are the only company you should be dealing with.
Jim (the boss) can’t do enough to help. He is very well mannered & knows about his products. Very competitive prices too.
The installation went smoothly, we had 16 panels fitted on 2 roof spaces, GivEnergy 5Kw inverter & 9.6kw battery installed. All of which were fitted neat & tidy with no complications.
Once fitted, the aftercare has been conducted to a standard that I have never experienced. To name a man that is a credit to the company, Scott the newly employed “Brains” behind the technology. He’s not just a tech support, he’s a very passionate, customer focused, genuinely nice guy that most companies would give their right arm to have on their team.

Really pleased with the process from start to finish. Jim was a professional, friendly and gave us a lot of his time. Fitters took care of our project the whole way and was really key and helpful.
