Faulty mattress! Dreadful customer service!

I bought a Harrison Spinks Somnus King sized Mattress in 2019 from Barker and Stonehouse. It was very expensive. It was good for a while, but over recent years it started to get more and more humpy and dippy until recently one of the tufts just fell off and the mattress began to have a large hump in the middle of it that we could do nothing about. It was clearly faulty. I had started to have very bad back trouble at the same time - coincidence?
I contacted Barker & Stonehouse and asked if the mattress was still under guarantee, since we had not been given any information about this when we bought it. 7 years is usually the somnus guarantee. But it became obvious that the makers didn't want to know. They offered to post us a new tuft! As if we were the bed manufacturers! I had mentioned that the bed was shedding dust under some of the tufts and that I had had to hover it up (with the soft upholstery brush) and they promptly told me that I had cancelled the guarantee just by doing that - even if it had been guaranteed!!! Their attitude was pretty unimpressive. Barker and Stonehouse weren't any more help - the woman I had been communicating with promptly went on holiday and no more was heard until she decided to write to me after she got back.
We decided to pay to get rid of the mattress and buy another type of mattress, and so we did. My back is starting to recover now.
The mattress was supposed to be top of the range, but I wouldn't touch another one with a barge pole, and I would advise anyone to steer clear of them.
The customer service of both the bed maker and Barker and Stonehouse left a lot to be desired. I wont be buying anything from either of them again.

Somnus Marquis great quality mattress

Second Somnus mattress and both excellent in quality. We turn the mattress as advised and have had no problems. It’s a heavy mattress but would expect the weight because of the makeup of it. Would buy no other.

Somnus Countess Absolutely Excellent

We have enjoyed our excellent Somnus Countess king size mattress for over ten years. It has been absolutely excellent, really comfortable and supportive. It is now starting to show some signs of wear so needs to be replaced. We’ll definitely be buying another Somnus or Harrison Spinks product. Fantastic British quality, not cheap, but worth every penny.

We wasted many thousands

We spent money thousands on a new Somnus King size bed. 4k plus. After three years the mattress developed what felt like a hole on one side. Although we'd had the bed for just over 7 years, we'd only used it for about 3 of those years because it offered no support. Mea culpa that I didn't report issues until the warranty had expired. Somnus did come and inspect. We were told that the 'hole' had been caused by sitting on the mattress in that spot. Completely wrong and a cop out. I'm disposing the mattress, so I've cut into it and can see that the larger springs in the problem area were not secure and were sideways instead of vertical. A shockingly expensive and shocking product from a company that clearly has no idea what customer service is.

I am in absolute agony from buying this…

I am in absolute agony from buying this mattress, it’s been 6 weeks since we have slept on this and the mattress sinks and sags and provides no support whatsoever despite it supposedly being a firm mattress. It felt fine in the shop, nice and firm and not like this at all.

I’m now waiting on an appointment to see if I have a herniated disc in my lower back. I’m unable to sleep at night because of the pain I’m in and on painkillers constantly. There is no grace period with this mattress so after having spent a fortune I’m now stuck with this. Avoid buying at all costs.

Please please save your money!

Please please save your money!

We bought the Superking Marquis, we did exactly what was recommended regarding turning, but still after about 3 years we started to notice body impressions. We soldiered on with it getting worse and worse so finally complained to the dealer. They sent somebody to review the mattress who reported that this is “Normal” for a mattress of this age. After 5 years the ONLY thing this mattress is fit for is the bin. Please do not waste your money, and do not be lured by the fancy finish.

Somnus at Ponsford Sheffield

We bought anew electronic bed 2 years ago and chose what Ponsford in Sheffield recommended as the best mattress - Somnus!? For the best part of this year my partner and I been needing to visit the chiropractor, osteopath and muscle skeletal clinics to try and sort the pains on the back we have been suffering from. The mattress has sunk in parts and bulged in a way that it is now wider than the bed base. I would like to state that we are slim people. We called Ponsford and they obligingly agreed to contact Somnus. An inspector came and took pictures and my called Ponsford back as I haven’t heard anything after a week and was told they have received a report saying nothing is wrong with it!!! Extremely dissatisfied as we bought
it as one of the best on market . We definitely do not recommend Somnus mattresses! Will have to buy another one and only after 2 years use!

We have a bought the more expensive…

We have a bought the more expensive Somnus Mattress. We put up with the the dipping where are bodies lay. Then we complained to the dealership. Who sent someone out independently. They said it conformed to being 3 years old. We have soldiered on with it 5 years on you can not sleep in it.

Terrible mattresses especially for the price

Terrible mattresses, spent over 2K on one only to have it fail in the first 2yrs, they sent out one of their people who tested and measured sag etc agreed it was faulty and agreed to replace it, waited months for a replacement which eventually came.
Another 3yrs passed now and the replacement mattress has gone in the exact same way, sags terribly requires turning way more often than they state otherwise the filling just dips and my partner and I wake up with bad backs.
Spoke to the dealer we bought it from only to be told whilst it has a 10yr warranty past 5yrs its only if things have failed and in all likelyhood we would have to pay to have it repaired or replaced (bearing in mind the purchase price) we declined and have replaced it with another brand and written off this mattress and brand as a bad experience.
The amount they require turning is ridiculous considering how heavy they are and they clearly have an issue with the filling separating badly so the mattress dips.

superb divan bed for a bad sleeper

I was reticent to change my extremely expensive Swedish bed that was sold to me as a 'bed for life'. But because of the cost of a new topper and because beds take a lot of hammer over the years, I decided to reluctantly change. Somnus are based in Yorkshire and make high quality beds. My marquis arrived recently and I have been so relieved and happy with it. Very good quality, very supportive, easy to sleep like a baby. It is firmer than I anticipated and that takes some getting used to but my peaceful, pain free sleep is proof enough that its a great bed. Very happy with all aspects
