Considering 113 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Consumers frequently complain about shocking price hikes, continuous billing increases, and severe disruptions to their daily water supply without receiving adequate support or reliable information. Reviewers also feel deeply frustrated by poor communication, long waiting times, and a complete lack of management accountability regarding ongoing infrastructure failures. However, some customers also noted that specific staff members provided polite, helpful, and exceptionally professional assistance during their phone calls. A few reviewers additionally experienced efficient handling of account inquiries, successful billing adjustments, and quick resolutions provided by supportive employees. People appreciated these rare instances of excellent customer service when dealing with the company.

'Repair completed at 4am' yeah right...

'Repair completed at 4am - we expect supplies to be restored late morning"

It's 15:05 pm, no water and no update. Shameful.

Let's hope the shareholders (Des Jardin Entities (25%), NatWest Pension Trustee Limited (25%), Utilities Trust of Australia (50%)) have a bountiful Xmas with their huge profits.

We're so sorry for the disruption to your supply. The repair had been completed, however we have to refill the pipe very slowly before supplies can return so the change of pressure doesn't burst the main again.

Unfortunately, because of spots of airlocks and ground levels in the area, the network didn't react as we expected to the repair and it took longer to restore supplies.

All customers should have their water returned now. Once again, we're very sorry for the disruption to your supply and the frustration this had caused.

Had our water bill reduced a few months…

Had our water bill reduced a few months ago from £35 to £20, we was obviously happy with this as we don't use a lot of water.

Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago, received a letter from SEW stating that our monthly payments are going up to £70.

We've been trying to figure out how all of a sudden we're using such an amount of water to justify such a price increase?.

Then today 16/11/2023, was on the phone chatting to a member of the family, general chit chat. The conversation went on to regarding the price of everything today, then this family member happened to mention their water bill. Their with SEW too, live about 5 miles from us, and guess what.. their water bill has increased by the same amount as ours.

So what's the chances of that, what a coincidence. I guess our increased water bill wasn't for any increased water consumption.

What kind of con are SEW trying to run?

Paid my account through the automated…

Paid my account through the automated payment method, absolutely shocked to find that it had taken my money twice leaving me with practically no money to live on. Tried calling customer service but all I get is useless information about them informing the refund department. Absolutely disgraceful treatment, I wish I could give them a minus as they don’t deserve one star.

Absolutely appalled at the well…

Absolutely appalled at the well reported huge levels of waste water pumped into our rivers and seas again this year, illegally. SW are happy to pay the huge associated fines and just continue to pollute our environment. Shareholders also seem to benefit. It is shocking practice in this day and age and makes me very angry and very sad. Stop doing this, fix the leaks and invest in the infrastructure. Given a choice I would vote for nationalisation of all water companies. I was unable to swim in the sea this year as many beaches in Kent were affected.

Zero stars if possible

11 days after paying the bill I receive a "final demand".

Given the amount of time that has gone by, I feel there is no alternative but to ring up to find out if a problem has occured. After the usual nonsense waiting to speak to someone, I finally get through to someone who tells me that payment has been made and that the letter was sent before I made payment. Despite attempts to enquire about their system timelines the customer service just kept repeating the same line over and over again. I appreciate as a monopoly there is nothing I can do and they can and will just ignore my complaint but hopefully enough complaints will lead to the ombudsman and the government taking action. LOL.

Hello Paul. We're really sorry to hear you received a final demand after paying your bill and weren't able to get the answers you were looking for on your phone call.

Without having access to your account, it would be difficult to comment on this individual situation.

However, generally, if you have a meter, you are billed for the water consumption of the previous six months.

If you do not have a payment plan in place, the full amount is due from the date printed on the bill.

If we have not received payment, or payment is received after the reminders are sent, you may receive a gentle reminder and then a final demand.

Please be assured these are reminders and do not affect your credit score.

Outrageous payment plan

This shower expect me to set up a monthly payment of £85, when by their own calculation our usage is £42 a month. That’s over £1000 a year when we use just £500 a year! It’s an astonishing cheek, and I dare say they have conned hundreds of households into overpaying .

4 leaks within 1.5miles (for weeks)

There have been water leaks, showing as reported on their map, for WEEKS. Nothing is done until it blows and people are without water. There are more than 8 reports within a small radius of me. 4 within 1.5miles.
Why are we paying water rates?!
Schools have had to close due to no water. Don't see SE water coughing up for parents losing a days work etc... Shocking.

Unbelievable ineffectual systems.

No water - reported it. No water x 2 sets of neighbours. Adviser told me she’d inform technicians and it would be fixed ASAP. Neighbour told different info - they were aware and water would be restored at 4pm. Phoned again at 5pm as still no water. No record if any issue in our area! SE Water told me they rely on technicians updating the website so all calls from the public aren’t recorded or used to update the website, so call handlers don’t know any more than general public. That’s right CALL HANDLERS DONT KNOW ANY MORE THAN GENERAL PUBLIC! So what’s the use. Crap systems, crap information. Get your act together SEWater!

I can see why we don't get to choose our water supplier. Put my bill up by £80

Put my bill up by £80
Meter is completely un readable so I'm just supposed to believe them that my usage has gone up and not a leak. They came out to look.
Say one thing on the phone and complete opposite in writing.
If you have the option, don't get a meter. If you don't have the option ask them what you'll be able to see before it's fitted.
If it was a private company I'm sure not being able to see what you're paying for before you pay and have to believe that what you've paid for is what you want would be illegal

They knew that their infrastructure was…

They knew that their infrastructure was at overload years ago when they applied to the government for compulsory meters in every property.
The management and shareholders have bleed it dry and refused to invest .
No more new builds in the area they cover.
Disgraceful and not fit for purpose.

Terrible company

Terrible company
We had a hosepipe ban until December last year and now we have another one after just one month of dry weather!
It's now been wet for a month and they still haven't lifted it.

Government, time to take back control!

Government listen up! Take control of the utilities, as they are blatantly just ripping off their customers and not interested in providing the service they are paid for.

Wettest winter, spring and summer with about one week of hot weather and we have a couple of months of hosepipe ban. Whilst SEW just cash in and pay the fat cats and give nothing but leaking pipes and pump crap into the rivers.

Government, time to take back control!

Trustpilot change your rating system so we can give negative stars as well.

DISGRACE

SEW don’t deserve a star…unless it’s for the unfailingly polite and well meaning ladies who answer the phone. The problem is, they promise to fix things…and don’t. You never get the same person twice. Endless ages on hold while they speak to ‘a manager’. No more. Over the last few years I’ve suffered arbitrary fictional and massively inflated bills due to an outdated meter and a flood on my verge that ran throughout the drought of 2022 and into April this year. Lazy useless workmen came out last summer, lazed in sun drinking red bull and left it WORSE. My bills have been meteoric since about 2018; I am STILL waiting for a review and reassessment of what I am surely owed after another broken promise in another painful call a month ago. This week I get a threatening Final Notice for my current inflated bill and the lady on the phone has the nerve to say that she takes my comments about SEW ‘personally’. What about the customer being fleeced year in year out who never gets to speak to the same person twice, never gets emails he is promised, and has to waste precious free time away from a demanding job getting stressed up and angry about SEW’s latest abusive disregard?
Court proceedings will follow if this isn’t sorted and compensated within 4 weeks. As will contact with the press. It’s gone TOO FAR

CHARMAINE

I have given a two star review but that is for the length of time it took to address a suspected leak.
But as far as the young lady in CUSTOMER SERVICE GOES - SHE DESERVES A 5 STAR ONE. She was amazingly helpful. Thank you CHARMAINE.
