Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 113 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Consumers frequently complain about shocking price hikes, continuous billing increases, and severe disruptions to their daily water supply without receiving adequate support or reliable information. Reviewers also feel deeply frustrated by poor communication, long waiting times, and a complete lack of management accountability regarding ongoing infrastructure failures. However, some customers also noted that specific staff members provided polite, helpful, and exceptionally professional assistance during their phone calls. A few reviewers additionally experienced efficient handling of account inquiries, successful billing adjustments, and quick resolutions provided by supportive employees. People appreciated these rare instances of excellent customer service when dealing with the company.

Appalling level of service to customers…

Appalling level of service to customers across Kent. Our bills have almost doubled yet many of us are repeatedly left without a water supply. Hose pipe bans were introduced early this year, despite having only been lifted in January, so we’re almost out of water butt water to flush toilets with, because we’ve had no rain. The AquAlerter update service is as good as useless because it doesn’t give us any information other than the obvious (we know we have no water!) We want to know how long we’re likely to be without water, and why this keeps happening in the same area, when you’re supposed to have fixed it many times over. A few bottles of water is not enough in this hot weather. You are repeatedly putting people’s health at risk and it is unacceptable. You’re an absolute disgrace!

Incompetence lives here

No water in Hawkhurst affecting 100’s of homes again during hottest weather on record. And yet South East water and their bedfellow’s in incompetence, the inconsiderate co tractor Clancy, treat this with such a lack of urgency that they all knock off early and come back at 7am Saturday morning. Have these fools never heard of overtime, or have any thoughts of customer service or getting water back to their long suffering clients. The contempt with which these utilities companies and their contractors treat the general public is shocking. Another example of the tail wagging the dog like pretty much everything in the UK these days!

I"m not sure if it worth writing a…

I"m not sure if it worth writing a review since it appears nobody at this company even bothers to check how bad it really is. Does OFWAT even bother?
I queried my high water bill and suggested that there must be a leak in the line. I was reassured there probably wasn't but maybe I should check anyhow.
I had a leak search done which indicated a leak next to the meter which had to be repaired by a SEW contractor. This was done but the meter was still turning, so I had another leak search done which showed a leak less than a metre away from the first. I cleared away some leaves and found another SEW meter box, complete with liner and stamped cover. SEW had moved the meter and simply attached a pipe between the manifolds on the old and new meter boxes ie SEW equipment was leaking and had been for several years.
An SEW contractor was sent remove the old meter box and repair that leak but I checked after they had gone and my meter was still showing a leak, probably from the first patch . Since then the leak has got worse than it was when I first reported it, three months ago, at almost 1m3 per day and I have paid out £840 to discover leaks from SEW's own equipment which they seem unable to fix.
The contractors were supposed to have returned yesterday but nobody pitched up. I phoned SEW and was assured they would look into it and call me back. No one did. I've had more customer agents involved than I can shake a stick at. All young and likely working from home. No one agent is assigned to see a particular problem through.
If anyone wants an example of how not to run a company, this it. The word management does not apply to this customer failure outfit. A disgrace.

Disappointed with lack of urgency to repair leak while charging us more money

On Monday morning 6th July reported a leak on the evening of the 7th an engineer turned up after pumping out water from meter housing and checking out the problem was informed that it is a cracked connector which he did not have, apparently phoned other colleagues to no avail, then told that a work order will be submitted and that problem should be resolved in 10/20 days!!!!!!!!!! you have just upped my and other peoples bills yet you just let water drain away. Now you are telling us to preserve water all the while it runs away into the drain outside.

Absolute criminals

Brought 2 years ago a house, since we have been charged over 200 a month for water for a 3 bed semi, we used to live in a 4 bed detached and paid £55a month. Upon complaint they sent a team here to check for leaks. There are none, but they confirmed we were using half what a normal house would use and bills should be no more then 60 a month. They have reduced our bills to this amount but never explained why they over charged us for so long. Something very dodgy is going on at Southeast water, borderline criminal activity.

They are funny

They are funny! They've got a hosepipe ban, but they haven't fixed a leak down my road going for for over 5 weeks. They don't invest expect in themselves. They don't stop pumping filthy water into sea, and the bills are extortionate absolutely outrageous

Shocking company

Profits up £2.6m last FY up to £18m. Can't supply water because of lack of investment in infrastructure. Might be a use for that £18m...

A company without leadership, who leave areas of Kent without water year around and as soon as there's a modicum of heat, are the only providers in the UK to enforce a hosepipe ban because of their poor ability to supply water.

Dreadful

If I could give this company a zero I would. Years paying over £300m in dividends from the operating company and not investing in surety of supply is the prime cause of where we are now. Not helped by toothless regulators but this company is dreadful. Now its our fault in Kent where we are short of water and plans to build a few thousand more houses to which the company cannot possibly provide enough water

How do I rate them as 0?
Asbolute disgrace to humanity they are. Expensive, not fit for purpose and audacious enough to impose hosepipe bans while they waste unbelievable amounts of water.

Absolutely appalling company

Absolutely appalling company. Last year had a 6 months hose pipe ban and multiple times where there was no water in my village. A very wet winter and already there is a hosepipe ban. No resilience, years and years of under investment.

Shambles of a company.

Shambles of a company.
Got an email from south east water saying bills going up, they already have the highest bills for water in the UK. I emailed them asking why they were putting the bills up and they said they wanted to renovate their company, so the customer would Have to pay the price. These people should be held accountable by the government for ripping people off.

Credit

The business itself is a disaster as we all know, but Matthew in customer service was polite, kind, chatty and is obviously a credit to the company. I feel awful for how I expect he is treated on a regular basis based on the numerous failures of South East Water and the strain they place on customers every day. He refunded my credit balance immediately and was nothing short of helpful. Thank you Matthew!!!

Appalling service Higher Bills!

The bill keeps going up and the service goes down ! No water or low pressure happens often enough now that I am no longer surprised..same excuses same lies !.. More buildings, more houses in the area including an hospice and there is already no water in our area some days ! How are they going to cope then ! We will have even less ! The great drought of 76 didn't cause this much disruption as at least there were stand pipes we had a regular supply of water from and a reason!Stop paying top level staff and head office so much and start putting the infrastructure in place for the future! A couple of days of hot weather shouldn't cause an issue! It happens every year!
