Nice

Me and my family have been using the family plan for the past few months. We've been learning English and German. I really like that the sentences are actually useful in real life conversations and I like the way they are taught, because you are the one who decides when you have learned a sentence and the app doesn't punish you for making mistakes. I like the challenge when it asks you to translate the entire sentence, but if you don't remember the translation right away you can either see the hints or even the whole sentence.

The app is simple to use and there are multiple different types of learning, such as live conversations and listening exercises. The listening exercise is like a podcast and even there you can choose if you want just the audio, audio with text or audio with text and translation. They have recently added more functions, a part that teaches you daily something about the new culture that you're learning and a written conversation practice with the AI. It also teaches you grammar in every exercise if you open the grammar box under the sentence. You can also find a separate grammar section if you really want to learn about it.

There are some small technical issues sometimes and it seems to me that the Spanish-English course has had some errors. However, once we reported an error it seems that it got fixed the very next day! Whenever I contact the customer service via email, they respond either the same day or the day after. It seems that the team working on Speakly is small, so considering that I think that the app is very well made and they are actually interested in teaching a language.

I also really love that you can make a lifetime purchase. We purchased a family lifetime plan for 4 which means that the price for a lifetime access is less than 35€ per person.

Overall, I would say that when combining the app with other activities like watching Youtube, movies, series, listening to podcasts, reading books and writing diary entries, you can create an excellent learning routine and see a lot of real progress when learning a new language.

The app is glitchy

The app is glitchy. Learning system isn't efficient at all. You don't actually learn a language - you just memorize sentences. I felt they were treating me like a robot. Personalisation is very limited too. Don't bother, it's waste of time. One star extra for UI and simplicity but.. C'mon. It's about learning foreign languages and it sucks at that.

Great comprehensive input!

After about 3 years I'm close to finishing the German course. I've seen this App update in its functionality and design to the better. But the core learning style of comprehensive input has been grea! It brought me to a level where I started watching anime and tv shows in German and felt more and more comfortable hearing the language. Still is helpful in acquire vocabulary.

Recommend for people looking for comprehensive input!

Speakly deserves its stellar reviews

Speakly was highly recommended in reddit and in various youtube videos that I just had to check it out. It is a very well designed program. Its core is the 4000 words where you learn the most important words in the language. Then there is listening, a lot of listening, which is great for those following the refold method. There is also a section called live situation, which is basically mock conversations. And song recommendations according to your level is a really good touch. The grammar section that useful, but, grammar is being thought in each phrase, with the main verb and all its conjugations, as well as its negative and question form. It is really ingenious.

Love the approach

Love the approach, and I've used a few phrases I learned from Speakly in my tutoring sessions (por ejemplo, dije: "he estado leyendo un libro en español") and it impressed my tutor ✌️ she asked me where I learned that phrase, and of course I told her about Speakly (en español, por supuesto) ! I bought a lifetime subscription, and I hope to see more languages/features added in the future!!
