Purchased 'slate grey' fence paint

Purchased 'slate grey' fence paint. Picture on tin is of a very dark, almost black, grey. The reality is a light soft grey. Very misleading and now opened unlikely I will be able to get a refund. Dreadful product.

Spear and Jackson cordless

My late mother's Spear and Jackson cordless lawnmower, which she had hardly used, died after I tried to cut my grass with it. Second one of these to suddenly stop working. Spoke to help desk and that was a waste of time. It's something electronic as far as I can tell, and the help desk told me to get an electrician to look at it. It was probably still under warranty but don't have purchase details. It's a shame as it was an ok mower when it worked. Now bought a petrol one.

A garden tool I bought for my father a number of years ago broke. I recalled that Spear and Jackson had a long warranty on their tools. I was easily able to find out how to contact Spear and Jackson on their website, and I received a very quick response. They confirmed the tool was covered under the warranty and said they would send out a replacement. Very quick simple and efficient. Thank you Spear and Jackson and Joyce.

Rude eastern European woman

I called support (11.35am on 31.07.24) and the eastern European woman (who refused to give me her name, even after I called the second time) told me to read the manual and just said that's how the machine works. I asked to be transferred to a technical person or her manager and she refused and hung up on me! She was rude from the moment i explained my trouble. She was laughing instead of asking questions and working through the process of troubleshooting on the phone with me.

My lawn area is around 20m x16m and only a few handfuls of cut crass was collected. The mower hovers if mulching but doesn't efficiently/at all when the mulching plug is in. I followed the manual, my brother and the neighbour's gardener tried too but we all had to push with our body weight to cut the grass with the mulcher in place.

The other issues:
- bar handle to power the mower is not comfortable for mowing. Especially if you have to use your body weight in mulching mode to cut the grass as it doesn't hover.

Excellent customer service

I have just received excellent Customer Service from Angela at Spear & Jackson.

She was able to help me in sourcing a part to repair a set of heavy duty lopping shears. The shears are no longer a current model but she was able to source a part for me and it was received the following day.

This is why you pay a little extra and then you get the quality you expect.

Well done S&J ( and Angela)

Thinking S & J were a reputable company…

Thinking S & J were a reputable company I Purchased a cordless lawn mower and grass trimmer but was sadly disappointed. Batteries are rubbish and made in china. This is one of the worst purchases I have ever made. Customer service is absolute rubbish, they pas you on to another crowd who are supposed to carry spares, try to get a spare battery from them forget it.
For sure I will buy another item with S & J name on it as long as I draw breath.

What a fabulous company to deal with

What a fabulous company to deal with! I lost a part of a Spear and Jackson tool and within a day of requesting this the company had posted the spare part to me and I was back using the garden tool. I can't express my gratitude enough or explain just how impressed I am with this company. 10 out of 10 to them.

Environmental wasre

Bought Spear & Jackson 37cm Corded Rotary Lawnmower - 1600W. Lasted 18 months then a £2 switch broke, but you can’t get parts, so have to throw away. What happened to the right to repair, this brand is throw away, just environmental waste.

I remember as a kid my Dad had a S&J Lawnmower he always used to comment on how it was best to buy a Brand you Knew and trusted and he trusted S&J I was looking to trim a Hedge so thought I would follow my Dad's advice and buy a Battery Powered Cordless Hedge Trimmer I used it for one season and all seemed fine - so I thought great I am glad I followed by Dad's advice, until I went to use it less than 12 months later I had fully charged the batteries but it would not work at all. In fact due to the cheap steel used from China it would not budge I have stripped the Blade Down and was shocked to see how much corrision was on it.

Spear and Jackson I paid you for what I thought was a quality tool but all I bought was some Chinese crap item made with poor quality components so please stop it amd go back to being a BRITISH Company using British Components not imported substandard rubbish! JRC A no longer customer.

Absolutely terrible customer service

Absolutely terrible customer service. Roller has broken on my 3 year old mower and have been pushed from person to person to person trying to get a replacement. 3 weeks ago I was told one would be with me in 3-5 days, still waiting. Called back and after being on hold for ages tried to order a replacement and was told I couldn’t as it was “definitely on the way”. So now have a completely useless £200 mower because no one will sell me a £15 replacement part. First and last item I will be buying from them.

Update. It goes from bad to worse. Part finally arrived after a month and is the wrong part so now have a useless lawnmower, a useless part and am £15 down.
