Yeah, that holding fee malarkey needs to stop. I contacted my bank about it and they mentioned something about swarco not closing it properly their end. That's got to be intentional right though, as almost every other charger gets its right.
They keep the holding fee for over a week
Inexplicably they apply a holding charge every time you use a charger and don’t return it for more than a week (9 days in my case). No other company I know of takes this long to return a holding fee. Other reviews show this is standard practice for them. You have to ask yourself why?
Preauthorisation payments not returned
One star because can’t rate no stars. Tried to connect to Evolt charger in Aberdyfi seafront car park. Wouldn’t connect and after several attempts, Swarco have taken £110 off our card for card preauthorisation payments which have not been returned to the bank. Also, we couldn’t charge the car.
Phoned today and got given an email address for which we have had no response as yet.
This is absolutely disgusting and it’s no wonder people are reluctant to go electric. What an appalling and unfair system. Avoid Evolt chargers like the plague. We will avoid using in future.
Swarco expensive and slow.
Charged my car in Fort William on a Swarco 50kw charger and paid 38 pounds. Never paid more than 28 pounds at Tesla, Ionity, or BP Pulse and charged at speeds of 150kw to 240kw. Not going to use Swarco again. Started charge using creditcard which is handy, but there is no display of the cost per kw.

I charged my car when it had 40% charge. For the 60% charge it cost me an enormous sum of money. £27 pounds is too expensive. It has to be fair. Disgusting...there are better companies out there. Check your Google maps and avoid using this service. Least recommended.
Terrible experience
Terrible experience! Charged 2x holding fees of £30 and a week on I am still awaiting them refunded. Do not use SWARCO charging points!
Absolutely disgusting experience
Absolutely disgusting experience. I tried 3 different chargers and all of them failed now I have £75 in pending and god knows how long it will take to get back.
Used this charger a few times now
Used this charger a few times now. Those week however it took 3 payments of £35.00 on one charging session! Now I have to wait for these pending payment to return normally around 1 week.
Awful customer service / their kit…
Awful customer service / their kit doesn’t work, there ev charging cables aren’t long enough not that they even work and the hold money even though no charge to vehicle / customer service is a joke!’ He laughed about it taking my money and how it can take days and days to get it refunded - this is without my vehicle receiving any charge to it all - disgraceful poorly run, non existent customer service and their units do not work properly!!! Worst ev charging company by far!
Absolute trash
Absolute trash. Kit doesn’t work or intermittent, guys on the phone can’t do anything. All they are doing is crowding out better quality kit. This is more for the commissioners, please don’t use these guys or E volt, it’s not worth it!
Prepayment charges
In the dark, found a swarco charger with the help of Zapmap in All Saints car park in Newmarket. Surprised to find Swarco is E Volt as I downloaded App. Worried that it was a scam qr code sticker. Tried direct payment. Lights came on. Charge started but stopped. Tried this three days times. £20 taken from my account each time. Desperate for charge, used the app. This time £40 was taken and again charge was stopped. So I am £100 out of pocket until the funds are refunded. And not a drop of charge. Why is prepayment held when charge is cancelled? Scandalous! I will not be Christmas shopping this weekend.
Holding my money for over a week
Holding my money for over a week. For a 11 pound charge.
They’re a disgrace and I’m reporting to visa as fraud. It’s a joke.
Contract given to an unacceptable service provider
Tried to charge our EV in Porthmadog and Machynlleth at chargers we had used successfully a year previously when last in the area. Since then Transport For Wales have changed contractors and the chargers are now run by SWARCO. The chargers looked like they had provision for contactless payment but then wouldn't accept our card. Phoned SWARCO to be told we needed to download their APP. We were unable to do that because of poor signal. We only had 40 miles of charge left. We were told they would enable contactless payment for us but it failed. Made 3 further phone calls but still couldn't get a charge. Had to drive on with dwindling charge to a slow charger provided by the National Trust, which thankfully worked. Thankyou NT.
Have since been told that SWARCO sell data collected from subscribers to their APP so won't be downloading.
Just want to pay for my fuel like any other driver can, at point of sale with a card!!
AVOID
AVOID at all costs and plan your route using any other charge points! Took an additional £200 out of my account and weeks later have still not returned the full amount. Have been very unhelpful and unprofessional throughout the whole process rather than simply making the refund. I have had to send countless emails and make numerous calls even though they have admitted that it was due to their faulty chargers which caused the issue. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!
On holiday in Cornwall
On holiday in Cornwall. Lost two hours plus of my holiday mucking about with what must be the worst app I have had the misfortune to use. Not the only supplier with these issues. When are suppliers going to make life easy to charge your car by simply letting you pay by use of your debit card???
The Worst
Car didn’t charge, cost me £35 the after support is none existent. Stay away

I thought the days of downloading an app to use an ev charger were over. Just tried to use a swarco charger for first time and never again. Half an hour of jumping through hoops, then call customer services to find out that the location details sticker on the charger has a full stop that the app doesn't accept ( am I supposed to be psychic?). No QR sticker on it either. You really need to up your game. I use the public charging network almost daily and this was my poorest experience.

The worst supplier you'll meet on the road in the UK! There are 19 chargers in Castle Hill hospital and none of them work. Recently a similar situation at Grimsby in Morrison. It's a waste of time to deal with such a failure company.

It's companies like this that make using an EV a pain. Couldn't even use my card and because I didn't know my bank details while standing in the middle of a carpark couldn't use the charger.
