Support doesn’t respond

Lock works great. Have had it for several years. Recently tried to log on to the app and it didn’t allow my password. Tried the website password reset 10-12 times over the past month, but it takes 30-40 minutes to receive the verification code - which has expired by that time. Have submitted several support requests over the past month - but NO response!!!

honest review + small story

Let me give an honest review. I charged my tapplock once in 3 years. In that timeframe nobody ever opened my lock. Moreover, recently the lock ran out of battery while it was at a gym locker. 3 heavy duty bolt cutters later nothing could break it. $250 after hiring a lock smith finally the damn locker cracked so YES. 10/10 super damn safe, quick in recognizing fingerprint, and awesome battery jeeeeezz.

knowledgeable and friendly

I have been working with Luke from the enterprise team, he has been knowledgeable and friendly. He gave me a demo of the system and its amazing. I have been using tapplock around my own home for sometime now and enjoy using it very much, however i was pleasantly surprised after learning more about the enterprise system, which i will be adopting in the next six months to a year. As a start up company I really appreciate the patience tapplock has had with answering all my questions. I will update the review once I move forward the enterprise system.

Crap product, warranty only on paper and horrible customer service

I purchased a Tapplock fingerprint combination lock with a shroud and a 3-year warranty. The lock froze up and was deemed defective by Tapplock technical support after less than one year. Several phone calls and over five (5) months of emails to numerous departments at Tapplock to get a replacement lock under the warranty went unanswered. Tapplock would not stand by their warranty. Tapplock products look pretty but are cheap Chinese crap. And their warranties are not worth the paper they are written on!

I am very disappointed in my Tapplock…

I am very disappointed in my Tapplock One plus. This lock cost twice as much as other fingerprint locks. It is misleading to say you can open it with the app – the lock is not on Wi-Fi – it is Bluetooth only. Therefore you must place your phone within inches of the lock and be sure to press the button correctly to re-initiate the Bluetooth pairing – then you can unlock/lock the lock. I have used many Bluetooth products, but this is the worst I have ever used – it does not automatically re-pair the Bluetooth connection. I tried over 10 times to connect and setup the fingerprint with no results. It took another 10 tries until I successfully opened the lock with the app. The instructions on the app do not explain the Bluetooth pairing process – again the pairing is really bad. You must always turn on the lock before you can use the fingerprint reader. When you turn it on, it does not automatically pair the Bluetooth – you must re-initiate Bluetooth pairing. Also, from reading other reviews, the battery will not last. That means you will have to charge the battery on the lock from where it is locked (on your shed). The app does not tell you the current battery life.
I was so disappointed after one hour of use that I contacted the company to take it back. They explained that they do not refund if the box is opened. What? How do you know if it works for you until you try it? They obviously do not stand behind their product. I spent the next 8 days arguing with them over email (8 emails). I finally convinced them to replace it – but I am not going to open this one (I could tell she never believed it was broken). You should know that they do not post their address or phone number on their site (red flag).
Tapplock – if you sold me a broken lock then refund my money. However, I don’t believe the lock was broken since the Bluetooth sometimes worked. I believe the Bluetooth is very poorly implemented on the lock – making a very frustrating experience. Tapplock needs to refund our money when customers see how poorly it works (within 30 days). Don’t buy this lock!

Bought the Tapplock One+ thinking

Bought the Tapplock One+ thinking. The worst product I have ever used and i regretted it big time. I bought the lock for barely 4 months and it is spoilt. the lock just freezes and when i finally managed to unlock it, it does not go into hibernation mode when not in used. it just drains the battery dry within a day. Forget about what the ad. says about it being weatherproof or waterproof. they are totally untrue. The customer service wrote to me saying that they are unable to do anything about my lock as i bought it from Singapore Changi Airport (who is not an authorized agent) they do not even attempt to provide any possible solution. poor customer service and bad product. Purchase it at your own risk!

Tapplock is not a complete solution for your security needs.

Tapplock is not a complete solution to your security needs. Tapplock lacks the ability to manage the locks they produce in the event of tragedy. I purchased a Tapplock for my husband and sadly I lost my husband early this year to COVID. I am now unable to manage the lock. Tapplock Inc. is apparently unable to reset the lock (with proof of death and purchase) and unwilling to replace the lock. The lack of ability to manage a lock they produced or willingness to replace has now got me looking for other solutions with biometric security. Tapplock is not a good investment, I have now lost $100 dollars on my investment because they are unable to break the security they created.

Buyer beware

Buyer beware! This lock is worthless. If you buy it you deserve it. Abysmal customer service to boot. Only used it once on a climate controlled indoor storage unit abs it malfunctioned- I had to pay to have it cut off. Customer service had me answer a litany of questions only to tell me I’m on my own. I will never buy another Tapplock product as it is a complete waste of money. It also can be easily hacked- do your research first. Tapplock should be ashamed of their product and removed from consideration for their lack of service. RUN!!!

DO not buy

DO not buy. It only works sometimes and usually needs recharging prior to opening even if I just charged it the week before. It will only work under ideal conditions (inside a house but not outside). Very disappointed!!

Worthless junk and worthless warranty - AVOID

I work in a high-tech industry and loved the idea of a biometric padlock for my 2 external garden gates so purchased 2 locks from Tapplock. Within a few months the rear lock had failed and - in fairness - Tapplock eventually provided a replacement (which also failed) and eventually a 2nd replacement which seems to be OK.

The front lock also failed recently - just outside of the 1 year warranty that Tapplock offer - and theyve refused to replace or refund me for that lock.

Under EU law customer electrical products must be covered by an expansive warranty for a minimum of 2 years- look it up....

When I wrote to identify that position to Tapplock the response was as follows

"Hi Dave,

I do understand what you are saying, however, this law applies to purchases made within the EU with authorized EU suppliers. As your lock was purchased from our US website, the law does not apply.

I am afraid I cannot offer any refunds or any more replacements at this time.

Sincerely,
Tapplock Support"

If a reader has sufficient legal training and experience, I would be really interested to understand whether a company can flout european law in this way, as I'd like to explore the option in County Court.

Regardless of the quasi-legal position, the products clearly have design and / or manufacturing flaws that Tapplock have been unable to address over a prolonged period of time. As such I would recommend that you don't purchase any of their products as experience dictates that they dont / wont work and your money would be better spent elsewhere - possibly on a UK/European brand that values the market into which it sells

I take my review back from 5 to 1

I take my review back from 5 to 1. I left a 5 star review b/c it is a high-tech digital lock--that was convenient to open in a split second in-and-out of the gym . But like ALL digital locks--which was a master lock, and this one, they all fail after a year. The $100+ lock was 100% fully charged but stopped working out of no-where. The blipping thing just stopped working after the green light was still on! Imagine if I locked myself out with TAPP at the gym. I would have been really embarrassed b/c I got complemented on that 1-year piece of junk when people saw it! Low-Tech is the way to go for me.

Garbage Product, Garbage Customer Service

Garbage. Tapplock One worked for about three months before hard failure. It won't even turn on now. Tapplock tried to get us to dump more money into their business by offering us 20% off of a new product. Typical sales technique for companies that sell garbage. Save yourself the time and money and buy a different brand.

Battery has died

I have one of the original Tapplock’s made. So it must be 2 years old, 4 years old? But the battery has died! And there is no replacing the battery, so my $100 lasted at a rate of $25 a year or more!

So compared to a regular padlock it’s not worth the money. Too bad the battery can’t be replaced.

Taplock worked great for 1 month

Taplock worked great for 1 month, and then stopped working and wouldn't take a charge. Customer service was great and sent me a replacement lock. That lock worked for almost a year, before once again failing to open or take a charge. This time customer service told me they could not replace as it’s been a year since my original purchase. Even though two separate locks had failed within a year. I told them when I cut it off, water dripped out. They told me that even though it was advertised as being used for outdoor use, it only had an IP66 rating, meaning it can’t be unlocked in rain. So, they knew there was a flaw, and then she tried to sell me on buying the new lock which has solved that failure mode. The problem is I would be shelling out another $100 to replace a lock I already paid $100 for that didn't last a year. For $100 this lock should last a lifetime. Otherwise you might as well just buy a normal $17 padlock. I am very disappointed that taplock doesn't stand behind their product. I don't like to post negative reviews, but I also don't want anyone else being as disappointed as I am right now.

Have bolt cutters nearby

Buyer beware. This lock is great, until it isn’t.

This lock will fail on you. And when it does, bolt cutters are your only option.

Mine would recognize my finger / turn green, but wouldn’t open. Same for the Morse code sequence. I couldn’t use Bluetooth since my phone was in my locker (although my guess is it would have been the same outcome). Tried multiple times and even gave it a “rest” while I showered. No luck and I needed my keys so the bolt cutters were brought in.

Emailed customer service this morning and was told since I was an early adopter and out of warranty, my only option was to buy another one (they did offer 20% off). I passed. $99 for 18 months of a working product seems high. I’ll stick with my $15 combo lock.

My money was there when they needed me at the beginning. They weren’t there for me when I needed them.

It’s experiences like this that make supporting early tech harder to justify.

Worthless

Worthless. I was excited about the functionality (despite being skeptical about longevity), but ended up not needing to use it for about a year following purchase. So it sat, fully charged, in its very pretty package. At one point I misplaced the cable and asked support if there was a universal USB I could use and they advised I'd have to buy a new one from them. I declined and subsequently found the cable, and played around with it periodically to make sure it was still working as advertised. It was. When it came time to put it into service, I was enthusiastic as it would allow me to secure fixtures for a gut renovation in my shed, and only my contractor could access them with his thumb print (plus, there would be a log of when he did). It lasted about two weeks in dry summer weather, when I discovered I couldn't wake it up to accept a fingerprint or connect via Bluetooth. Unable to open / get it off the latch, I used a battery pack and the provided cable to ensure it had a strong charge...a little green light came on, but still no function. Contractor had to take bolt cutters to it this morning. Overall, the concept, packaging, and "feel" of the product are all nice and have the appearance of quality. But having to buy a replacement custom charging cable is a joke, and the longevity ended up being exactly as I feared.

Ordered My tapplock in January and…

Ordered My tapplock in January and still have not received my order. I follow up via email, I get the same response every time " Sorry, we should get a shipment in 4-6 weeks and you will receive your order. This has been going on for six months now. I can see this is very common. I see I'm not alone in this. More and more people are not receiving their order.

Absolutely terrible customer service

I have no idea how the product is. This review is strictly for how awful their company is. I ordered a tapplock 3 months ago. 2 weeks went by...I emailed them, they said it would be another 4-6 weeks...but my order was on the list. 6 weeks go by and they said they only had a limited number, it would be another 6 weeks. Well 6 weeks go by and I just emailed them...same exact story, another 6-8 weeks. Screw this company - theyre trash...idc what the product is like.
