Easy to follow step by step instructions for abnormal tax return for Self-Employed taxpayer. I feel confident that my taxes were prepared and filed correctly. This is the 3rd year I have used TaxAct. Thanks!

Well they removed my 2 star review so now they get 1 star. AVOID! Bait and switch tactics. Started out free and then when I got to the end of filing held me over a barrel to pay a $55 plus tax fee.
I'm furious that my review got removed.

Sections buried. Can't locate info to change after accidentally entering incorrect information. Was marketed as free filing, cost me $55. Not free. Scam.

This was my first time using TaxAct, and they got me more for my refund than another popular tax program I usually use. I will definitely be using them next year! It was easy to use and helpful along the way. I just wish maybe there was a little more explanation and plain language used. Otherwise, I was very happy.

I asked for help call. You did call me, but by the time you had called you had timed out my page. It took so long to page back to the spot where I had the problem that your system hung up on me before I could ask for the help I needed. You charged me for that call.
1. It would be better if you had a menu to get directly to the page needed, and didn't have to go through every blessed page to get there. This would have been helpful throughout filling in the numbers as I realized number wanted on new page would have to be subtracted from numbers entered many pages back. It would also have prevented the time out on my help call.
2. You took automatic feedback on the call, in which i told you that i did not actually get any help because of your system. You charged me anyway, and nobody reached out to offer a refund.
3. You directed me to go to the IRS look up how to fill out a form for capital loss. that is why I called you. I never figured it out, so I skipped it. GEE! I hope it wasn't important! I feel that if you say you are a tax prep service, you should have walked me through that form too, and I should not have had to call you at all.
4. I don't expect anyone to actually READ this... Nevertheless... If you do not credit me for that call, I will never - ever - use your service again, and will advise everyone I know not to use it either because you are thieves.

The pricing ended up being much higher than expected for what felt like a pretty basic filing, which was already disappointing. What made things worse was that I couldn’t even file for an extension through the platform when I needed to. That’s a pretty fundamental feature, and not having it available (or at least not clearly accessible) caused unnecessary stress during an already stressful process.
Overall, I don’t feel like the service delivered enough value for the cost, and the lack of flexibility with something as simple as an extension means I’ll be looking elsewhere next year.

I'm really frustrated that I had to pay $60 to upgrade. I don't feel like it was explained well enough why I had to upgrade and it feels like I was scammed.

I called to get help fixing some itens that I was having. The agent couldn't help me. She stated that she was emailing her supervisor. She thrn stared that her supervisor was not ressponing. She told me that she only had a limited time (15 minutes.) I ask her if I was going to be charged the $35 for my call, because she was unable to help me fix the problem The agaent said, "YES".
The agent, stated to ne that she hzd no ides why the trouble was occurring or even how to fix the problem.
I spent more than three hours trying to fix the problem mysellf.
The said that her time wss up and hung up in me. We spend a lot of money of your service.
We are paying for your company to help all of your customers.

I thought my taxes were done because I paid the fee, verified my depositing account and made it through all of the pages. When I got to the the page that said close return I pressed and it jumped back to the my social security page and 2027 tax page. It stayed on that loop. I went to check my return status and I had to navigate the website just to get to the e-file part and now my tax return has been submitted late.
