Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 129 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. People frequently complained about unexpected charges following free trial periods, alongside remarkably steep, sudden price increases for annual auto-renewals that arrived without warning. Consumers also faced major difficulties when attempting to cancel their subscriptions, as direct online management options were entirely missing and reaching support required frustrating phone calls. Some reviewers were happy with the customer service team, explaining that patient representatives quickly resolved complex billing complications and successfully processed requested refunds. These helpful staff members skillfully guided individuals through unexpected renewal disputes, contract confusion, and account cancellation procedures.

Shady business practices

This is one of the first companies i hope the UK new laws regarding back button blocking, hard to cancel aggressive subscriptions and unuseable websites with paywalls.

Absolute joke of a company.

Every single shady trick in the book used

Telegraph = Boiler room scam

Telegraph basically operate like a Nigerian boiler room scam when it comes to subscriptions. I had the paper a year, rarely used it then when it came to renewal they charged me $500 which is around about 4x the year 1 cost. The transaction was so extreme it blocked my credit card which wasn't ideal as I was on holiday at the time. I complained via their messaging app and after a lot of negotiation and counter offers, I got them to cancel the subscription. They are very sneaky though and they tried tu take the $500 again while I was on the messaging app with them. Anyway I got my cancellation and took the block off my card. A week later they tried again to take the payment and again my card blocked it. I have the cancellation email from them and they tried to take the payment! So I cancelled the card which is massively inconvenient. I will never ever sign with them again as they are a total joke.

I've noticed that the telegraph are…

I've noticed that the telegraph are using AI generated fake images to reporting news. You have to question now if anything they post is even genuine. Prime example is the 'Donald Trump declared that the only reason the Iranian regime was “alive today” was to negotiate.' story where it contains AI images

From £1 to £49

I had a puzzle subscription for a yearly £1.00. The renewal price was £49.00. It is not possible to cancel unless you call them. And the guy was so slow and kept me on the phone for 12mins asking what puzzles I liked and lowering the price to£5.00. I don't know how many times I said I just want to cancel but he kept on and on. At the enmd of the call I was furious, and hope the new rules about subscription cancellatins come in earlier than 2027.

Deceitful practices

Deceitful practices. They make it so time-consuming to cancel, that the only option I had left was to cancel the card I used. AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE.

Having paid £29.00 last year(2025)now £269.00 !!!!!!!

Having paid £29.00 last year(2025)for a yearly subscription I was then confronted with a renewal price of £269.00.

I rang to cancel my subscription, only to be offered a new rate of £69.00,I said cancel. Then offered a renewal of £49.00 which okay was almost twice last years price, but more acceptable than £269.00..

Then see a subscription offer of £25.00(new subscribers)I rang to cancel my £49.00subscription,then offered it at £39.00.

I've always enjoyed reading the telegraph(Saturday)for over 50 years, plus now the online version as well.

This farrago in respect of pricing leaves a very bad taste, how the hell are they able to get away with it?where are trading standards, consumer rights when you need them ? They need reporting to these organisations asap.

NEVER EVER SUBSCRIBE. SHARKS!

Never subscribe! Completely immoral practices. I was paying £89 a year. Renewal came thru for £379. Another person had a renewal at £280. Seems they generate random prices for different people to see what they can get away with. They make it extremely difficult to cancel. Don't accept email cancellation. No electronic method. Have to speak to them. On hold for over 30 mins. Wouldn't listen when I said I wanted to cancel. Eventually offered £49. Eventually let me cancel. Make sure you cancel your payment method or they try to auto renew. SHARKS!

Definitely NOT a low level scam

Definitely NOT a low level scam, if you don't notice they've taken some cash a year after you subscribed to something without realising, they win, if you do, they say they're sorry to see you go and here's your refund as you're in your 14 day cooling off period, no harm done. 🤔

Unhinged Hateful Left Wing Rag

I have been a Daily Telegraph subscriber for over a year, I am definitely NOT going to renew. This tabloid, that attempts to pass itself off as an unbiased paper. I found they are a hateful left wing rag that never misses an opportunity to spread hate and vitriol about any US conservative or Republican. A completely unhinged vile rag of odious "journalists."

Terrible customer service

Accidentally left a free trial going and forgot to cancel, contacted them after I got charged and they refused to refund even though I ever only read 1 article on there and all their emails have been going to my junk inbox unread. All other subscriptions always give you a refund during this grace period however they refused despite their website stating theres a 14 day refund after payment.

Slammed for £199

I was one that took the offer of £29 to read the Telegraph online for a year. It seemed a bargain compared to the paper price, so I accepted. There was no mention of any subscription. One year on, checking my bank, I find I was slammed for £199. Luckyily, I paid the initial £29 pounds via Paypal. Today is day twelve of a raised Paypal dispute, which of course has been ignored by the Telegraph, so will be fefunded later today. My advice to everyone is use Paypay, it makes a dispute much easier.

Very easy to find your self with money coming out of your account

Some how I accidentally joined a digital version of the telegraph when trying to read an article a few moths ago. This was clearly my mistake but I was shocked when suddenly £14.99 started coming on of my account on a monthly basis and it was very difficult to get rid off. A very expensive single article read a couple of moths ago, please be careful when reading the telegraph article’s online!

Thank you Simon.

I have just had my telephone subscription problem sorted out by Simon, a member of The Telegraph’s ‘digital team’ whose patience and understanding resolved my billing issue. I am very happy that I got him, when I called your help line and despite the complexities of my call, he managed to resolve my issues.
Thank you, Simon.
