Tesco fraud department to the rescue! (again!)
I have used Tesco bank and associated credit card for many years now. I am extremely grateful for the vigilance of the fraud department and have been 'saved' by them on a number of occasions. The customer service has been extremely friendly, helpful and informative. The most recent incident saved me a three figure sum of money thanks to the advice, help and understanding of the fraud department.

The person I spoke to was easy to understand, knowledgeable, patient and extremely helpful. The reason for the problem I was having with my credit card was explained to me and was solved immediately.
Worst first day ever
The very first day I used my brand new Tesco Bank credit card turned into a hugely frustrating experience. I wasted at least four hours speaking to at least 8 Tesco employees at a Tesco petrol station, in a Tesco Superstore, and on two different Tesco helplines.
My first stop was the Tesco petrol station in Dundee. After years of having debit cards from other banks randomly declined at pay-at-pump terminals, I was hoping my new Tesco Bank card would finally provide a seamless experience. To my surprise, my Tesco Bank credit card was declined at the pump.
I went inside to ask for help. One employee suggested trying another pump or paying at the cashier. Another employee then told me that their pumps don't accept credit cards at all – only debit cards. If that's true, it's astonishing that Tesco's own petrol stations don't accept Tesco Bank credit cards at the pump.
I then went to the nearby Tesco Superstore. I chose many products with Clubcard prices, assuming everything would work as expected. It didn't.
The card wasn't recognised as a Clubcard, so none of the Clubcard discounts were applied. Two employees at the self-service checkouts couldn't resolve the issue and sent me to Customer Services. The adviser there confirmed that my Clubcard number wasn't working and told me to call Tesco Bank.
When I got home, the experience became even more frustrating. I called the Tesco Bank helpline, but they couldn't solve the problem. They first gave me a telephone number that was out of service, then another number for Clubcard support.
I ended up speaking to the Clubcard helpline three separate times, yet nobody was able to resolve the issue or explain why my brand-new Tesco Bank credit card wasn't working as a Clubcard.
As a result, I lost both the Clubcard discounts and the points I should have earned. After spending more than four hours being passed between Tesco store staff, Tesco Bank and Clubcard support, I was still left without a solution.
A customer should not have to spend their first day with a new Tesco Bank card troubleshooting basic functionality. I expected Tesco Bank and Tesco Stores to work together seamlessly. Instead, I experienced confusing and contradictory information, being passed from one department to another, and no one taking ownership of the problem.
