The Boathouse pub IOW - High Price Low service

I stopped in with the wife and kids after a lovely walk this Sunday afternoon as we were all a bit parched. Lockdown measures in place and well laid out, and we were greeted at the entrance by a middle aged lady who I informed we hadn't booked a table.
She seemed a little put out by the fact I dared to attend with no booking even though there was barely half a dozen tables currently in use and probably 20 tables free that I could see allowing plenty of social distancing space.
She told me I need to scan the QR code on the board which I tried but wouldn't scan, so clearly put out she strutted off stating "well I will have to get you a pen and paper then wont I".
We were seated and told self service so I went to the bar and ordered 1 and half pints of beer, 2 large soft drinks, 1 small soft drink and 3 portions of chips as the wife and kids were peckish after our long walk. The barman seemed distant and even after my attempt to make some small talk left me feeling I was "just a number" which was disappointing. I was then shocked to be charged almost £36!!
When the food arrived it was nothing more than 3 small bowls filled with barely a small potato worth of half cooked chips in each. At this point I checked the pricelist to find I had been charged £4.50 each for 2 of the bowls and £5 for the chips with cheese (£14 for 3 small bowls of chips!!! And £3.80 per large soft drink which was half filled with ice).
To top it off we were seated outside under a large umbrella which was badly rusted and thrashed around in the breeze seemingly as though it was going to drop onto us at any point. I was tempted to make a complaint but we had been having a lovely carefree day, the first for many months, and the wife encouraged me to "leave it".
I was very disappointed as my visit here was the 1 blight on an otherwise great day with my family. I wont be returning as there are so many other good pubs to choose from, and I was left feeling as though we were not welcome and ripped off!
Don't get me wrong, I don't mind paying a bit extra for a good location and service, but I don't like to feel ripped off. This was a prime example of squeezing every last penny from the customer with minimal effort. Overall; High end Prices with Low end service.

Overpriced food and small portions ! Avoid

Overpriced food. We ordered what was described as smoky sausage with chilli and it arrived smeared very thinly with what was mostly chilli and hardly any meat and not a sausage in sight. Extremely hot chilies with two small pieces of bread that we are parents and one measly egg for £9! Overpriced food. Will not be coming back

Our experience was completely different…

Our experience was completely different than the other review. WE went to the boat house for the first time in 08-18 and everything was very nice. The staff all seemed very friendly and all seemed to help one another alot. The food was good prices were fair and the views were oustanding. Thank you for a wonderful evening..
Have since been back twice and both times were identical..

Over on holiday to see family as we …

Over on holiday to see family as we usually do a couple of times a year and revisited the tree house restaurant in st brelade. However this visit was not like other visits we have experienced, it was absolutely awful and would definitely not return for food.

Upon arriving the restaurant only had one other table with customers. The restaurant was empty and now I know why.

We were sat and drinks orders were taken, we then began looking at the menu. We were ready to order but the person serving seemed to be the only person there so the service was quite slow (even though there was only one other table!). Eventually after catching his attention he came to take our orders. There were 8 of us and most of us had ordered, things like half chicken, burger, ribs etc. It wasn't until one of the children ordered a burger and said "this comes with fries, doesn't it?". To our amazement he said no, you have to order them separately! I then asked if my half a chicken came with fries, again same response, no! It turned out the only meal that did was fish & chips. So each meal which is usually a pub price meal ended up a lot more than we were expecting to pay as they've changed theit menu.

So expect to pay approx £18+ for chicken and chips! (That by the way wasn't very appetising)

Two people got pizza which they left more than half because it was tasteless...he did ask why and they did tell him and he said he'd go and inform the manager. Her reply was that there's nothing wrong with their pizza but just take it off the bill if they're not happy! Great response! (Sarcasm).

When trying to order drinks it was done while he was walking past...so not everyone got to say what they wanted as he didn't actually stop, just carried on walking. So when the 3 drinks were brought the rest of us got to ask if we could have one too!

It was such a shame it cost about £150 and that was after one of the pizzas were taken off so a little midweek pub tea wasn't a) very nice b) expensive c) not good service

Well no wonder it was empty...lesson learned!
