Good service unless you want to return something

All retailers are good if you have no issues - ordered, delivered, items as expected, great. The difference between good and not good retailer only once something goes not as per plan. I had to return items which were not as per spec (!) and was charged £735.00 for it - 40% of the order. I'm planning to get ombudsman involved. Before purchasing anything from The Code Store, ask yourself, are you absolutely sure you won't need to do a return?

They will keep you guessing

The Code Store is clearly not a customer focused company. What I mean by that is that their typical customers are other companies and professionals in the building industry not your typical DIYers. By their standards my order of £41 was tiny and insignificant and so I was a bit wary and unsure when I decided to place my order with them but I did have no other choise as they were the only suppliers of the item I was after.

Registration was straighforward and soon an email was received confirming placement of the order and the promise of further comunication regarding processing of my order. What in actuality happened from that moment on was total silence on their part. I checked several times on my customer account to track the status of my order which for 5 long days only showed the word "pending". I obviously started to think that someone had forgotten about it or rather stock was not available and I might have to wait who knows for how long until the item would be delivered. Then one day I parcel I wasn't expecting arrived at my door and it turned out that was my order fulfilled.

So no warning of any kind that the item was coming or when. While a few years back that would have been not such a major drama to cry about things have moved on in the world of e-commerce and the expectations on the customers side certainly raised.

This guys have obviously failed to catch up. So while it would unfair to throw them into the fire on the basis of a single transaction failing to live up to modern standards, their customer service should definitely take notice that that simply delivering the goods while keeping the customer guessing or worrying as to wether the items are coming or not is clearly not good enough.

Would I be buying from them again? Not if I can help it.
