The Linden Method and the 9 Pillars 100% work

I am compelled to write this review, as I notice there are a lot of negative reviews of the Linden Method lately.

I had Panic Attack Disorder, which then developed into Generalised Anxiety Disorder as I began to fear having panic attacks in all aspects of life (as we know how horrendous they are), which also developed into agoraphobia etc. I suffered in pain daily for 4 years. Had CBT from local services etc, offered benzos (which I did not take). I wanted a medication free solution, but nothing offered worked.

I found the Linden Method and I can categorically tell you, the method and the 9 Pillars 100% work.

It seems to me that people are in disbelief how simple the solution is, given all the complex therapies there are. Charles is right in that the other therapies unintentionally exacerbate the situation for well-explained reasons outlined in his book.

Just throwing out that all the Linden Method is, is "just distracting yourself" does not do justice to the holistic methodology. However, it is true that this is probably the singular most important pillar to recovery.

We all know when suffering from anxiety we have those periods where we experience relief and when we focus on 'Oh I haven't felt anxiety in a while', it's that inward introspection that brings the anxiety back on.

The process of "distraction" is to extend those periods of relief for longer and longer through partaking in activities that completely engross you and then literally not allowing a minute to go by idly.

Most of us have never really gone a day without a minute unoccupied, but it's that level of commitment that will speed up your recovery. As you're distracted, your body is healing in the background as it has time to relax and bring yourself back to baseline. If you do this enough over a long enough time horizon (which varies for everyone) your body will become anchored at a normal level of anxiety again.

I am 9, nearly 10 years anxiety disorder free thanks to this method. I thought my life was ruined and over. Thankfully Charles and his team existed and I have had 9 amazing years of my life since. I will always speak up for this methodology and recommend it to anyone suffering from anxiety disorders.

Potentially Dangerous Advice

I have rarely reviewed a book without reading it in its entirety, however, I am making an exception with The Linden Method. I am making an exception because after reading the chapter on the Nine Pillars I was alarmed by the irresponsible advice. It appears both grandiose and downright dangerous.

After reading the chapter, I immediately Googled Charles Linden to see if he is aligned with Scientology because of the negativity about doctors and medications. Apparently, he is not a Scientologist but nor does he have any medical qualifications.

Four of the nine pillars are as follows:

Pillar 1: Doctors aren’t required. Stop this anxious habit now!

Pillar 2: Talk to your doctor about withdrawing your medication.

Pillar 4: Only follow this method.

Pillar 6: Stop leaning on other people.

To be fair, I read many positive reviews by people who swear by this method. Also, he does advise readers that Pillar 2 must be followed under strict medical supervision. Nevertheless, it is a risky business to not only withdraw medication but also someone’s entire support structure as required under Pillars 1, 2 and 6. I am concerned the objective of the pillars is to prioritise Pillar 4: Only follow this method.

There is sufficient evidence about psychiatric illnesses to show some are caused by chemical imbalances. It is not simply mind over matter.
Doctors are already being second-guessed by patients who consult “Dr Google” beforehand. The last thing they need is Charles Linden telling patients positive thoughts and busyness will resolve their illnesses.

I have no intention of reading the remainder of The Linden Method. I will continue to put my faith in people who actually have medical degrees rather than someone who has developed a “method” based on personal experience of what worked for him. I advise you to do likewise.

At my most vulnerable I would try anything, including TLM

Like many people I was desperate to find the miracle cure to Anxiety and after numerous talking therapies, CBT, meditation and non medical interventions I saw an ad for TLM and thought this was exactly what I was looking for. In hindsight I should have realised anyone promising to banish anxiety and cure me was a red flag but like many of us, we are at our most vulnerable and will try anything to get back to our former selves.
I went on a one day retreat and basically covered nothing ground breaking or new, just a continuation of the practise that Charles talks about in his videos, blogs and media coverage.
My view on it, I understand the principle but cannot see how it is practical or reasonable to execute. It's a bit like saying if you have tinnitus (background ringing in your ears) then play music really loud all day long and it will drown out the ringing. This is TLM in a nutshell. Engage the brain in so many mental activities from the second you wake up to the second you go to sleep and you won't give anxiety an opportunity to appear.
Like others have commented, if it doesn't work for you then that is usually seen as entirely your fault, which to a degree it is, but as I have said, it is not a realistic solution.
It is only after the course that I found out about the various complaints about Charles and Beth, not allegedly their names, and their way of working. Would it surprise anyone to learn that allegedly Charles used to be a car salesman?
From my own experience all I can say is that 2 weeks after this course I went on a long haul flight, which I have taken over 50 times before, and whilst listening to Charles' audio for very stressful situations, at 35,000 feet I had the first panic attack in my life and passed out.
Maybe TLM does work for some people but not for me. What did I learn from it? I learned that commercial courses run by non medically/clinically trained, ex car salesmen and endorsed by z list celebrities are to be avoided in future. I am glad I went because it actually helped me realise there is no magic cure to anxiety and anyone who promises you there is, generally is just after your money. However, I am lucky, I can afford to throw hundreds of pounds away on a course, but I know many people can't. My advice to you is speak to professional clinically trained experts first and only if you have tried many different ones and had no success with any, consider going down the magic answer route, but with great caution.

This program is life changing

This program is life changing, I have been well now for years and still use all of Charles methods to this day. Before this, I wasn’t an anxious mess, No, Doctors could help and I was just pumped with medication. No therapy helped just made it worse. I talk about this program to anyone and everyone who suffers with anxiety, This isn’t about coping this is About curing your anxiety disorder. The support the methods the compliance and the nine pillars are absolutely gold and anyone suffering should do this program. You don’t have to be poorly you can be well and live a perfectly normal and happy life. You just need to stay complying with the program and know that you can achieve anything. Beth and Charles are the most amazing human beings ever, Integrity, Determination, And willingness to help others is inspiring. This is by far the best program in the world and I will forever be grateful for how this changed my life for the better

My review has also been taken down…

My review has also been taken down along with all the other negative reviews! Charles and Beth are both con artists, that is not even their real names! They have no medical background whatsoever and word the method in a way that grabs the attention of anyone suffering so desperately from all types of anxiety. I spent £3400 on this and when I challenged why it wasn’t working they became aggressive and blamed me, even tho I was doing exactly what they told me to do! There is countless ex employees who have spoken out about the corruption of the linden method and how it is designed to fool the sufferers that they will be well and in the beginning you do believe that but it soon becomes apparent that it’s just a con! Real professionals have reviewed the method and called it out to be a load of waffle. The lindens have also been taken to court many times over the last decade due to people realising it’s a con. Hence why they keep folding the company and re naming it! I have personally received threats from Charles for exposing him and so have lots of others. I have the proof of these threats so he can threaten me all he likes. Please do not waste £1000s on this false promise of wellness, you will end up far worse off. This is a truthful statement and I will keep saying it no matter how many times they get it removed!

Changed my life!

I recently completed a stay at The Linden Method retreat when my anxiety conditions were at there absolute all time high. OCD thoughts and actions were totally consuming my every waking moment and I was surviving on 3 hours sleep. I am absolutely in amazement at how the Linden Method has helped me to turn my life around. I believe that I have found ways to tackle anxiety for the first time in my life. This is the only thing that has worked for me following years of CBT and talking therapies. Understanding that the reason I struggle with anxiety is largely because I am a creative person is a revelation and one that has made me feel proud of who I am rather than ashamed. I have completely integrated the tools learnt on the retreat into my everyday life and they are even leading me towards the path of setting up own business, something I never thought I would have had the strength for before. The Linden Method saved my life in my darkest time!

Absolute rip-off merchant and he should be shut down.

What he preaches is absolute bullshit and is dangerous. He literally tells people to not talk about their anxiety and to not see any other medical practicioners or therapists. Whilst at the same time raking in cash by charging £375 for 75 minutes of HIS time.

Meanwhile many people continue to struggle in silence as his methods do not work and people are encouraged to keep their struggles to themselves.

He is endangering lives.

Disgusting.

The Linden Method should be spread…

The Linden Method should be spread across the world! Myself and my sister attended one of their retreats. Both full of anxiety and depression due to a recent passing of our mother. From start to finish we really felt we were in a safe, inviting and calm environment. They taught me to identify my anxiety and what my triggers are. But they made me see anxiety I’m a completely different light. It was amazing to see not only how we changed but the other people attending the Lindon Method. Some not even being able to speak and hiding in the corner. To see them become the wonder bubbly person they should be. I have the control of my anxiety now. It doesn’t control me. If it sneaks up out of the shadow again, I now have the tools to smash it.
Thank you! Worth every penny!

Linden Anxiety Recovery Review

I chose Linden Anxiety Recovery Coaching to try and improve my anxiety and well-being.
I decided to go for the one to one coaching with 2 parts.
The first is a 2 session 1 hour each coaching either on the phone or by zoom and you pay £330.00,and the second session is again £330.00 with 3 sessions 1 hour each.
Before the sessions started I asked by email could I have a choice of either zoom or phone .The email reply was yes, but I felt that asking for zoom was an inconvenience as the coach prefered phone calls.
The first session by phone was just talking about the Linden Method(£165.00!)and the second session went through the ten pillars for anxiety but the system has not worked for me, as it tries to make your mind forget about anxiety instead of exploring what is causing the anxiety in the first place.
I found the portal not esay to use with no instructions and I asked for assistance by e-mail,and was informed your coach would go through with you but this was not forthcomming when asked, probably for the time factor and costs you are paying.
The coach also confirmed that I would receive an email with the bullet points of what we had talked about in the last session but I never received back any corresponce.
Infact receiving relpies from telephone messages left is another negative aspect of the Linden Anxiety Recovery.
You leave messages on the answerphone but no one ever gets back to you.
I have decided not to pay for the second session due to my experiances and costs.
I have asked for a customer satisfaction questionnaire but I doubt I will receive one!

I think the experiances of Linden Anxiery Recovery has made my anxiety much worse .

I would not recommend Linden Anxiety Recovery due to my experiences and costs and a one star is much to generous.

The best thing you will ever to cure…

The best thing you will ever do to cure your severe anxiety; I suffered for years and this was the only thing that worked. It's a process that takes a few months it's not an instant fix as some people may misinterpret. But when you complete the process you will be so happy that you did as the fog of anxiety will be gone and you'll be able to move on with your life; please do it ❤️

The Linden Method worked for me

From the age of 18 I suffered from Agoraphobia and anxiety. It lasted at different intensities for the best part of 30 years. It changed my life completely. I was locked into a belief that I was in danger somehow and the panic attacks that started in the beginning became a pattern of avoiding a lot of things for fear of triggering another. And so the cycle begins. No matter how I tried to make sense of it I just couldn’t find myself out of the web. It informed so much of my life for so long that I cannot even imagine who or where I would be now had it not ever afflicted me. Ok, eventually I thought I would try the Linden Method. I made a deal with myself to totally listen to what Charles Linden was telling me. I would completely trust him and believe that his experience, his own story and recovery could happen to me too. I believed him from the moment I started watching his presentations and learned from him what was actually going on in my body when I had these entrenched chain of thoughts which would trigger my symptoms I.e I was in danger etc..
The Linden method began to sow seeds in my subconscious fairly quickly. I think this happened over the course of a month. My symptoms lessened and my confidence in my myself as an agoraphobic sufferer grew. It’s as if the catastrophic thinking was going away. The usual ‘what if’ thinking that I had become so used to subtly disappeared and my world didn’t appear like a world I should avoid anymore. I wouldn’t lie about something like this. This is a deeply destructive, embarrassing and personal disorder of fear that so so many people suffer from. I was sceptical that it wouldn’t work as nothing else had. I thought there must be something mentally wrong going on in my head but to trust in just one thing, well I would recommend this method as a very powerful tool and I would go as far as to say that I believe the Linden will and should become a Gold standard in treating many of these relating issues.

This method piles avoidance on top of disorder

The 10 Pillars have not worked for me despite applying them, and I think it's because the program focuses more on ignoring the anxiety and just trying to divert the brain with endless activity. That's just more escapism and more disorder in my opinion. No wonder I was an exhausted, anxious mess.

I got a book called "Dare" by Barry McDonagh instead, and whilst it focuses more on facing and allowing the feelings of anxiety, it doesn't do much more to actually divert the brain other than a small add-on section of the "E" part of dare which is to "Engage"
The book focuses more on facing/allowing the feelings, and the way it's written makes it easy to get obsessed with facing the scary feelings so it doesn't feel balanced. The problem with this approach is that anxiety sufferers like me can get too pre-occupied with looking at thoughts/feelings which is harmful. The Linden Method is RIGHT about that.

I think a synthesis of Linden method and Dare is the ideal way to go..ie face the feelings a little, see through the seeking mind and compulsions then switch and forget about it through surrender or diversion...and repeat until new

The Linden Method absolutely saved my…

The Linden Method absolutely saved my life when I first discovered it at 19 years old. I was suffering from Panic disorder & Agoraphobia. Charles explained Anxiety in a way that the doctors and specialists I had seen couldn't. The program gave me the steps, tools, education & courage I needed to face my fears and become Panic attack & Agoraphobia free. ❤️🙏 I had the chance to meet the team 15 years later, when I flew from Canada to the UK to meet them in person Last year. Regardless of the challenges that life brings, I know I will be able to forever refer to the valuable tools and lessons the Linden Method brings.

Consistency is key! Don't give up

I've used the method for several months and have had improvement! I was at my all time low about a year ago. Severe Depersonalization and derealization. And I would get dizzy alot as well. I was in my own personal hell and would cry everyday for months. I purchased the Linden method on ebay but then I decided I needed more one one on and bought the new version a few months later. It's a pretty easy concept. But I needed the extra support. I love being able to go to the zoom meetings weekly and ask Charles himself personal detailed questions. It brought me great comfort! His wife Beth is so knowledgeable and comforting as well. Charles is straight forward and so knowledgeable about every question I ask. I go to the zoom meetings from time to time if I have any new questions. My Dp/Dr is pretty much gone. I maybe have it here and there 15% of the times. I havent cried for about 6 months. Yes I still deal with dizziness but I'm trying to get rid of that symptom as well. I have a ways to go but I notice each passing month I feel stronger and stronger. I'm very stubborn and I dwell on things so I feel like it's been a longer journey. Intellectual engagement is slow and steady for me. I need to push myself more because I find myself on autopilot or I don't challenge myself enough mentally. I think the key with the Linden Method is not to give up and keep at it. Something will stick and when that happens your anxiety as well as the symptoms will drastically reduce. We don't have to suffer for the rest our lives. This is such a short time to really challenge ourselves and learn to not due risk assessments and live a normal life like we once had before. I really do beleive that!
