Clarity required about fees and surcharges
Thrifty, you could do better.
Declare all fees accurately upfront.
Don't tell the customer the full insurance will be $60 and then charge them $83. That erodes trust.
Tell them in your quote what the Vehicle Rego Recovery and Administrative Recovery fees are for.
Make the requirement to overfill the fuel tank clear in your agreement and ensure your staff point it out when they go over the terms (this staff member didn't).
Most importantly, include GST in your quote - otherwise you're being misleading (and it appears deliberate).
Also, ensure your staff provide pre-hire condition photos (in this case they didn't do so - I was in pain and needed to get to a shop to buy pain relievers).
To anyone thinking of hiring from Thrifty (eg. if you have little choice), make sure you:
1. Take a screenshot of the online quote you find in your search results
2. If you get a subsequent quote over the phone, ensure it includes GST (unless you're exempt??)
3. When collecting the vehicle and signing the agreement, don't let the staff rush you before you're sure of all the details.
4. Ask for a copy of the terms & conditions before signing. Read them. :)
5. Make sure they provide photos of the vehicle before you drive it away.
6. Fill the tank to overfull according to Thrifty's instructions (which may not be made obvious).
