Beware!

Thrive Mobile is a Mobile Virtual Network Operator marketing itself to health care plans as a benefit to members. After spending considerable time on the phone with its customer service department and with my phone working, I thought I had straightened out my service and flew to the East Coast to bury my mom. As soon as I got to Boston, Thrive deactivated my service completely. Forty more minutes on the phone in four phone calls (over Google Voice) did not get my service restored and customer service had no idea why it no longer worked. As a direct result, I was unable to navigate back to the airport in a timely fashion and missed my return flight, having to re-book and spend the night in a hotel. When I finally made it back, I was able to determine on my own that a second SIM Thrive sent me had been activated -- Thrive completely ignored what I told them about using the existing SIM and failed to advise me that it would be deactivated -- because its customer service department knows nothing about the company's own procedures in such cases. Neither before nor after deactivating my service did my repeated explanations even register with customer service, even though the problem had supposedly been "escalated". This is the worst experience I've ever had with a phone company and cost me considerable frustration, inconvenience, time, and money. I'm not going to waste any more time trying to communicate with Thrive.
