Bought an updated map of Europe from…

Bought an updated map of Europe from TomTom on a Sunday and by the following Wednesday I still had not successfully downloaded it because of TomTom's hopeless server. There customer "service" didn't bother to answer my emails either until after 4 days! So after endless attempts to simply download the map I bought I simply gave up. How much time can one waste on a dreadful service??
I never got my map, it was still showing in my account, so I opened a case with PayPal. They immediately escalated the case to a 10 days period.
The good news (for me) is that I got my money fully refunded today.
Lesson learned. All I've lost is some "precious life" I'll never get back but, honestly, TomTom and it's contemptuous attitude towards customers can take a jump. Never ever again! Avoid them like the plague.

TomTom life time maps are a waste of…

TomTom life time maps are a waste of time. My device is approximately 1 year old and worked fine until recently. Searching for valid GPS signal and will no longer navigate. Tried updating the maps via Tom Tom web site with no luck. Spoke to customer support and was told I need to repurchase the Maps. Very unhelpful support, sarcastic and don't care about their customers. Do not get fooled into buying a Tom Tom with lifetime maps.

GPS signal

I have Tomtom in my van which can’t find a GPS signal (it seems to think I am driving around in the sea). So I bought a portable Tomtom but after a year the portable satnav can’t find a GPS signal either. I have updated the software but no luck.

Terrible product and worst customer service

Bought a tomtom touch cardio + body composition in May 2018. It started to act up and in September I placed a request for substitution. They only replied to me April, 2019, sent me a substitution that was for a inferior model and also faulty, I complained again and now, 11/05, I got a substitute that is the same model, BUT ALSO DOESN'T WORK! Speaking to their customer service is impossible as well. I'm just going to throw this in the bin, as I don't have the patience to deal with these people anymore. DO NOT BUY THEIR PRODUCTS, it's just headache.

"Lifetime maps" I paid for two years ago no longer update.

Just two years ago I bought a TomTom Start 25 with lifetime maps. No problems at all updating the maps every 3 months for the first two years.
Now for the past two weeks, I get a message "Map Update available!" So I connect it to my PC and go to TomTom's MyDrive as usual, check the boxes to update the maps and the satellite positions as usual and get: " Getting Ready"... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... in a loop until it finally returns an error message that reads, "All servers are very busy right now. Click Retry a few times until you are connected. If that doesn't work, close MyDrive Connect and start it again"

I did that over and over and over again for the past week with the exact same results and nothing to show for it but wasted time.
If that isn't bad enough, Customer Service is non-existent, literally. My TomTom device said that it came with "phone and e-mail" support. Total LIE. There IS no e-mail support, they've deleted it from their website. So I'm I'm stuck with what amounts to an outdated brick sitting on the dashboard of my car.

I'm shopping for a Garmin unit today and will tell everyone I can on every bit of Social Media at my disposal to avoid TomTom's scam of GPS units with "lifetime maps" -- that can no longer be updated.

After the 6th April GPS rollover I had TomTom one 3rd edition and an XXL.
Both not supported according to TomTom both should still navigate but the time would not function.
Both had problems finding and maintaining a GPS signal and both ended up navigating into the bin.
Disgraceful customer care and support.

TomTom Is Useless

This Company Has no interest in customer service and therefore if you have a problem with your Sat Nav TomTom are not interested unless you are willing to upgrade to a newer model. As 4G mobile phones offer a very good Sat Nav service I would not waste anymore money or time with TomTom, especially as my unit is only 18 months old and has only been used half a dozen times.

Do not buy Tomtom, you will regret it

I purchased the TomTom iPhone app in 2009 for £59.99 this was for a lifetime app so it said! In 2016 TomTom started pestering me to change to the new TomTom Go iPhone app, I ran the two side by side and was not fond of the new app, however; TomTom kept pressuring me and one of their reps who’s name I can’t publish asked me to switch apps he assured me I would have the app for three years as that was the length of time they expected the new Go app to last, I asked the question “would I have to pay again after 3 years” the rep assured me via email that the Go app would be upgraded free of charge after the 3 years, TomTom have reneged on that deal, I complained and they offered me 15 days more while they investigated my complaint, after 4 days they decided to take the remainder of the 15 days away and reject my complaint.
Clearly the app is lasting more than three years as they were able to switch my app on and off at will.
They chose not to support the app I bought so they should have offered me a refund on the lifetime licence they sold me but no, they cut me off in the middle of navigating and many other loyal customers too (read the iPhone app reviews) so clearly they do not care about people who buy their products.
My advice to anyone thinking of buying anything Tomtom would be think again!!! They will take your money and leave you in the lurch when it suits them.
PS it’s a rubbish app anyway...
TomTom 23/042019 rep looked at an email sent to me in 2016 by another male rep who had told me I would get free updates after the first three years of TomTom Go and she said there was no mention of free updates, I have it clearly in black and white on an email sent to me in 2016 that “ If I switch to TomTom Go I will be given updates free after 3 years” TomTom clearly have an issue with truth and facts, 1 they do not like the truth and 2 they do not accept the facts even even in their own emails?
Avoid this company, there is no customer care and they are obviously only interested in how much money they can keep squeezing out of their loyal customers!!!!

I purchased a tomtom in 2013

I purchased a tomtom in 2013, with lifetime maps. I've never updated before but when I tried to update today, it wouldn't work. When I started live chat on their website I was told my updates were no longer available and I could purchase updates.

When I tried to explain that it was updates for life I was told that as I'd never updated before, why try now. I told lady that sat nav wasn't recognising basic roads like motorways. I was told I only had a basic model and they seemed to be suggesting that I could buy updates or just accept my situation.

I was then ignored. I wasnt rude, I was polite.

Customer service means bend over. I'll never buy tomtom again.

Shame on TomTom customer Service

Shame on TomTom customer Service. Runner 3

I bought a runner 3 last July. Display got mad after a while. I started a chat with the repair dept in January. Sent back the watch. Received a new one "completely new". Got problem with the display again (is this watch water proof at all?). Sent it back on Feb 22, 2019....no news since.
No way one can send a mail to enquire. Onny possibility is to loop through the repair menu endlessly!
I shall never buy a TomTom product ever again.

Start 25

Start 25
I have a start 25 purchased in December 2017 which is no longer receiving a GPS signal. I have done all of the updates but to no avail. I have just been told that although my device was not purchased until December 2017 it is older than that so no longer qualifies for the 2 year warranty and cannot be repaired. Surely 2 years should be from date of purchase if not maybe they should recall all unsold devices from retailers every year.

Very bad customer service - the continuing story !!!

I thought that with my last review I was giving TomTom the benefit of the doubt and that perhaps I had been dealing with an incompetent customer services adviser. Well, I was and clearly TomTom themselves are not bothered by my review even after Trustpilot has forwarded them a copy of my complaint!

It really is quite unbelievable that their customer services still have not responded to my email sent them on the 13/03/19 particularly when I have a case number with an ongoing inquiry in the pipeline.

No matter, I have resolved the issue of the lack of the schematics along the planned route by simply deleting all the pre-installed maps and then re-installing them. It only took 2 days to download everything!! Customer Services please note that I'm giving you a FREE solution to a very simple problem that you should have known the answer to !!

The schematic views are not all they are made out to be. There may well be a view of a tall building on the device packaging and on the TomTom website however, in reality, nothing like this appears when driving around Canary Wharf or Westminster. Why??

One other issue that I have is within the route planning options, specifically the Toll roads setting. Living in London I want to avoid the Congestion / ULEZ charging zone. Why is this zone not highlighted on the maps? When planning a route why am I not asked if I want to avoid this zone? I have indeed set my device to the on position within the "Avoid on every route" option; so, why does the device plan a route through the Congestion / ULEZ zone??

It would be nice to hear from somebody at TomTom, however, I not going to loose any sleep if I don't !

6-7 year old Start 20

My wife has an old (6-7years) Start 20 on which I carried out a Europe map update yesterday (£41.63 plus vat) The update went well although the map comes in three zones as I guess that some models, ours included, do not have the capacity for a single Europe map. Original download did not appear to contain UK map and panic set in! However one is able to log on and switch between zones quite easily. On a local test drive last night sat nav confirmed the existence of a new roundabout so we now appear to be up to date. I'm not very good with technology so perhaps it was first time lucky!

TomTom 6200 GO with WiFi

Once it is running it is quite good, but it is getting it going that is the problem. In normal use it is it is very slow to turn on and the reaction time to touching symbols on the screen is again very slow, even cheap smart phones now react much faster.

But if the maps need updated this takes you into a whole new level of pain. It will kick and scream to receive the update by WiFi even if it is plugged into a computer that is connected to the internet. It is very poor at holding the WiFi connection and if this drops during the maps update download the existing map gets lost and the unit turns itself into an expensive paper weight until you manage to reload the map.

NEVER attempt to update the maps unless you have several hours to spare before you need it again. If the wired link starts to work then it updates quite quickly.

Lifetime maps is a rip off

TomTom have informed me that my sat Nav will no longer be supported with map updates. Apparently, lifetime maps only means as long as TomTom are prepared to support older devices, before trying to force us to buy a new sat Nav. I feel cheated.
One of the reasons I bought that package was the promise of lifetime maps, - now TomTom appear to be redefining the definition of lifetime. I think consumers should be warned that lifetime does not mean lifetime.
Below is a copy of my contacts to date with TomTom

Hi, I bought my TomTom with lifetime maps. I have an email saying they will no longer work on my device. I need a refund or a new TomTom so maps do work as you promised. Thankyou

Hi, unfortunately our older generation navigation devices do not have sufficient resources to run the newest maps and software available, so are unable to take the latest maps & updates. More info can be found here:Cheers TomTom team

But my contract with you is on the basis of lifetime maps, if you cannot fulfill that contract, you are in breach of contract and must therefore recompense customers for this broken promise. I am prepared to accept a new device that is able to deal with map updates or a full refund. I'm sure consumer programmes would be interested to hear of TomToms promises proving worthless

Hi, as mentioned our older gen devices do not have sufficient resources to run the newest maps & software, more information regarding lifetime services can be found here:

Also a discount offer is available here

Cheers, TomTom Team

So lifetime does not mean lifetime. My device still works fine, it has not reached the end of it's lifetime, your alternative definition was not made clear when I purchased my Sat Nav. I will not be spending £200+ on a new device, I will use my phone instead and never buy your products again, I will be advising family, friends and my 1200+ Twitter followers to do likewise. I will also be contacting BBC watchdog and Martin Lewis in the hope they will warn consumers to avoid your products in future
