Train cancelled due to strike. No other trains available all day. Refused to refund me. Raised dispute through bank and they tried to block refund. Fortunately the bank won. Absolute crooks.

Paid Extra for a Large Dog, No Space Provided

We booked seats with a table and paid extra for a large dog, but there was no proper space available for our pet. The dog had to stay in the aisle for the whole journey, which was very stressful and uncomfortable. Staff were not helpful and came across as rude rather than supportive. Overall, a very disappointing experience considering we paid extra for a “pet-friendly” service.

The opposite seats had also been sold to other passengers, so despite our request they did not agree to move, otherwise they would have been sitting directly over our dog, which made the situation even more difficult.
When I asked a member of staff where my dog was supposed to lie, as there was clearly no suitable space available, I was told that the extra fee I paid was only to allow the dog onto the train. However, if seats facing each other are sold to different passengers, where exactly is a large dog expected to fit?

There was absolutely no space for my dog to lie down safely. Instead of trying to find a solution or relocate us to a more suitable area, the staff member told me that if my dog remained in the aisle, it would need to wear a muzzle. Meanwhile, passengers were stepping over or around my dog every few minutes due to the constant foot traffic.

Rather than showing any understanding or attempting to assist, the staff member argued with me and adopted an unpleasant and dismissive attitude. At no point was any effort made to find an alternative space for us, despite the obvious welfare concerns for my elderly dog. This was unacceptable and made an already stressful situation significantly worse.

TERRIBLE SCAM MERCHANTS

What a bunch scam cowboys!
If you are heading for Florence Italy be aware of this very sharp practice at the main railway station.
They sell you train tickets and ‘conveniently’ forget to mention you need to validate the ticket before getting on a train.
A ticket collector then charges you a further 10 euros for ‘not knowing’ .
TRENITALIA IS THE WORST TRAIN SERVICE EVER!

Worst train experience ever, they cancel my tickets and stole my money $187.00 Euros.

Worst train experience ever. Do not travel with Trainitalia. They cancel my train ticks for the amount of 187.00 Euros .

Instead of sending me an auto refund to my credit card they forced me to filled-out a ton of paper work and now they decided won’t refund me.
They cancelled my tickets not me. This is a super scam, imagin all the people they are stealing from.
There is no way I can get my refund. My email and case number is not even recognized by them now, they just dropped my case , just like that. And there is not a phone number to talk to anyone. Very convenient.

I’m furious, never again ..Trainitalia sucks. Don’t waste your money. Go with Ítalo.

Great experience overall

Great experience overall. The few trains we took during our trip were on time and comfortable. There was a mistake on my side on one of the bookings but customer service was very understanding and addressed it quickly.

Be extremely careful when using…

Be extremely careful when using Trenitalia services, particularly if you are not familiar with the local system. In a city like Rome, you tap in through barriers and tap out through barriers, so the process is fairly clear. In Naples, however, the barriers may be open, or some stations may not have them at all, which makes the system confusing and inconsistent.
Even if you are acting honestly and in good faith, buying your tickets and using the service properly, nobody clearly explains that if you do not tap out, you may end up being charged for a full daily ticket — or even multiple daily tickets. In my case, what should have been a €1.50 journey ended up costing almost €30.
When I complained about this, Trenitalia simply avoided responsibility and said that customers should already know how the system works. But the reality is that the service and process are poorly designed and almost set users up to make mistakes, especially tourists and foreigners.
Be very careful when using these services. The lack of clear information and the way charges are applied feel unfair and abusive. A terrible customer experience.

Absolute shit show of a train company

Absolute shit show of a train company, dirty seats and broken walls, rude passengers and gets very hot in the summer. DO NOT board these trains as most times the conducter or staff will scam you out of 100 euros if you physically cannot buy a ticket online. (Very glitchy website barely let's you buy tickets) if you try and resist and speak back to the conducter they get the police to fine and or arrest you in some cases. Overall shitty train company never board these overcharged, scammy, dirty trains.

Ticket from Paris to Avignon

I purchased a train ticket from Paris to Avignon. Trenitalia cancelled the train a month before the scheduled trip. Their refund process requires you to use their online complaint process. This process uses a drop down menu that does not work properly. It requires you to make selections that are not viable. After finally navigating this process, I requested a refund. Howevr although I originally paid for the ticket by using my credit card, that was not an option. I had to select wire transfer. When I finally received the $43.12 wire transfer, there was a $15 wire processing fee. This is totally unacceptable.

Unreliable

Unreliable. Trains we got while in Liguria were either delayed or cancelled. For our train back to the airport we did not book online (our mistake) thinking we could purchase at the station. The intercity train from Genoa to Milan was fully booked and the next available was 2 hours later making it too tight for us to catch our plane home. Distressed, we asked the trenitalia agent did we have other options and she merely shrugged. We bought the ticket for the later train, but a bus direct to the airport was a mere hundred meters down the road. We thought it nasty the agent did not mention the fact given she knew we would likely miss our flight by taking the later train.
We took the bus instead very comfortable and arrived in time. We will never use trenitalia again when visiting Italy.

Moe Rons

I didn't think they could be this stupid, but their "free Wi-Fi" requires an SMS text code to enable. I have a data travel eSIM for Internet service, but that doesn't allow me to receive SMS text, which is why I use Whatsapp for texting and calling. This would be typical for most every tourist and nowhere on the planet does free Wi-Fi require you to receive an SMS text. Who is running this company?

Terrible experience

Terrible experience! I bought ticket and had to stand both ways for 3 hours. The train was full of people standing. Low temperatures yet AC was on so it was freezing cold.

Shocking what a scam

Shocking what a scam. They issued us a train tickets at the machine and didn’t make it clear to tourists they need to “validate” their tickets before they get on the train! Then they had the nerve to fine us on the train. Even thought we nicely explained we only just arrived in Italy and was not use this system back home. Don’t use the machines and make sure to validate you ticket.

This company is terrible

Tickets were bought for one day and the tickets were sent for a train 2 days prior to the one we wanted and we didn't catch it to call and correct it. Phone Customer support was non-existent and at the station they just told us just buy a new ticket.

It is a very bad service for the price…

It is a very bad service for the price you pay!! The train was from Milano Centrale to Lyon.
1. It was late announced so you had to wait till only 5/10 minutes before to set on
2. The train and compartments are old and the seat not comfortable at all
3. Absolutely DIRTY TOILETS.
4. QUALITY-PRICE NOT WORTHY

Not a good experience.
I definitely would NOT RECOMMEND.

Absolutely trash customer service

Absolutely trash customer service. Purchase a ticket for the wrong station in Venice, unable to make the train. Realized within 30 seconds of making the transaction. The trip was 3 months away, and there was absolutely no flexibility with the policy. Chat person said “I can not help you” and disconnected the chat. Unacceptable service. Ticket was business class as well. Would rate lower if possible, will avoid using at all costs

Unreliable and inconvenient

Trenitalia è una delusione garantita.
Please be careful about "scioperi", they don't tell you about them when you are buying the tickets even a few seconds before cancelling a train, and even let you buy a ticket for a cancelled train, just to steal your money. Don't count on reclaims and paybacks, they usually don't work, or very badly and after a lot of time consuming and complicated procedures in the rare case they do. They are an embarrassment, it's such an injustice for people just trying to be green by travelling by train or too poor or just unable to travel in any other way.
