Excessive maintenance fees without warning

Truist merged or bought Suntrust. I was with Suntrust for over 30 years with no problems. Suntrust gave me a safety deposit box at no charge for maintaining a certain balance which I always have. Without warning Truist started charging 45.00. As if that wasn't bad enough looking over my statement online, Without warning again they charged me 20.00 maintenance fee on checking because the raised the balance and deposit amounts. It will take time to completely change banks because of all the auto payments but I can't wait to be done with this bank.

Nothing could be further from the Truist

I left this bank today due to CS making me feel like they could care less about fraud rude tellers and online banking issues in the past from the Raleigh NC and Columbia NC (defunct ) branch, decided to leave today while I was near a branch. If you are wealthy there is no way you are mistreated. There are no excuses for business to be conducted in this manner going on for 5 years. Hadn’t been in a branch in 3 years. Long lines inexperienced tellers. Lame excuses.

TRUIST IS SUCH A DISASTER

ZERO STARS. THEY SUCK. WE WILL GET A NEW CAR SOON. NOT WITH TRUIST!!!! TRUIST IS SUCH A DISASTER. SO LAST PAYMENT OF THE CAR LOAN $225.... THESE FOLKS DO NOT TAKE THE LAST PAYMENT AUTOMATICALLY THE WAY THAT THEY HAVE DONE FOR THE LAST 5 YEARS. APPARENTLY THEY SENT SOME MAIL TELLING US THAT WE NEED TO PAY OFF THE LAST PAYMENT IN A DIFFERENT WAY THAN WHAT WE HAVE DONE - WHICH WAS ACH. THATS HOW WE HAVE DONE IT. AUTOMATICALLY DEBITED.WE HAVE NOT ENGAGED WIRTH TRUIST . SO - LAST PAYMENT AND THEY DONT TAKE THEIR MIONEY. WE END UP WITH A LATE FEE CHARGED.. AFTER THEY DON'T TAKE THE MONEY VIA ACH. PLUNGED CREDIT SCORE BY 70 POINTS. HOW IS THIS SHIT LEGAL? OR ETHICAL?

Don’t exchange currency at Truist…

Made an appointment to secure British Pounds and Euros for an upcoming trip. The teller had to ask a supervisor how to do it.
They charged 5% more than the current exchange rate. That was fine as they have to make money. But they wanted a $10 bank fee. Fine. Plus they wanted $10 more since under $300.
I told them “no thanks” as I can do better at the airport.
I’ve been a customer for 25 years and, for the first time since then, I’m looking to switch to a bank that values me rather than tries to rip me off.

Do NOT use this bank

October 26, 2023, Truist bank took $221.57 and $209.87 from my escrow account for delinquent tax bills. I closed on 01/18/2022 and had a O’Kelley & Sorohan Attorneys At Law check the information on the property and nothing was found past due. I called Fulton county tax department to verify the delinquent bills, they stated they never sent Truist Bank any invoices for those amounts. A copy of the receipt for the two transactions were requested but was never received. A dispute was submitted with a Trust representative over the phone. The first and second transaction disputes with Truist were denied. The third was accepted and the money was returned on May 30, 2024. November 12, 2024 the same two amounts ($221.57 and 208.87) were deducted as county taxes. When I called, they informed me that they gave me money on May 30, 2024 accidentally and was getting it back. I informed the female representative that it was taken from my escrow on 10/26/2023 and asked her to view it on the October 2023 invoice . In the process of this happening, my mortgage payments went up to $1300. I explained to them, they wouldn’t allow me get a mortgage for that amount, I didn’t understand how it was the case now. I’m being penalized for mistakes they are making and having to take the loss until they clear things up. In May 2025, I spoke with a representative that informed me, the would be refunded by 05/19/2025. That refund did not occur. On 05/16/2025, I submitted a claim with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, on 06/03/2025 Truist Acknowledged their error and for their 2 year negligence offered a $25 gift card for the unsatisfactory experience. Before the negligence, I paid extra on the mortgage and made an extra payment for two years. After the NEGLIGENCE of Truist, my credit score took a deep plunge, mortgage payments late, and financial reserves depleted. $25 is not a fair gesture for negligence. On 08/15/2025, Truist Brank committed fraud by starting a Consumer Financial Protection Bureau case in my name without my consent. Even though this negligence was no fault of my own, the overage i paid is still in their possession.

We are living a nightmare with Truist…

We are living a nightmare with Truist Bank. They are holding our money hostage. We put in a large deposit which has cleared from the original bank. Even so, Truist WILL NOT release our funds for another 7 business days! Even though they have been provided with a copy of the canceled check showing the funds are sitting in Truist. Dealing with the supposed Banker who is in charge of our account has been less than satisfactory, she has even blocked our calls. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS! Do not do business with TRUIST!!

Investigate before investing.

Truist isn't my preferred bank, unless there is a promotion; nevertheless, I visited the Knightdale Truist bank to apply for a line of credit, while using my vehicle as collateral, which is valued at $22,000. The agent who assisted me was professional and polite. As he entered information into the system, he encountered a restriction that prevented him from completing the application. He then contacted the underwriter for assistance. The underwriter asked the agent if the loan was to pay things off, the agent looked surprised, as I did, because it didn't matter what I was getting the loan for, the agent then asked me if I was getting loan to pay things off, I stated no, the agent then stated that I was getting the loan for personal use and anything that I choose to do with the loan is up to her. The underwriter then suggested that I get an auto loan instead of a personal loan. At the time, it seemed right; however, I wanted a line of credit, not a car loan, because I had a car. Later that day, I received the feedback on the application that seemed a bit off. because of the allocations of my funds, the loan wasn't approved.
I am grateful for the outcome because the issue has led me to report and add to other complaints that are worth investigating. Truist has the potential to become a good bank for the community, not just for a few in the community.

Truist is the worst

Every time I call the local branch and I am calling the local phone number the call gets rerouted to the main number where ever that is and of course the person who answers the phone speaks broken English! When I ask them how come I did not get the local branch office they start talking a bunch of mobo jumbo crap and then it turns into an argument I get irritated and hang up! Sick to death of this mess. When I go into the branch there is only 3 to 4 people working I was told they are not allowed to hire any more employees, I guess the previous branch got smart and manager left because he saw the writing on the wall. Date of experience below should have the option of "ALL THE TIME"

Horrendous & Incompetent Customer Service

Auto loan was recently paid within 10 days of being approved and yet Truist wants to hold this consumer hostage! Filed complaints with the BBB, Missouri and North Carolina Attorney's General Offices, as well as the FDIC in order to get this pitiful bank to produce for this consumer that put trust in a so-called financial institution. Well over 30 days later and had still been waiting on a lien release for vehicle registration. Had called numerous times and it appears I'm speaking to someone in the Philippines one moment and the next South America as I'm informed those reps with broken English need to place me on hold and speak with the "Internal Office." First rep claims the documentation can only be provided to the new lien holder and not to the consumer, the second claims "the title needs to be perfected" showing Truist as the lien holder even though that loan was paid in full over a month ago! Please understand I only write reviews when businesses fail miserably screwing over consumers every chance they get or those that choose to go above and beyond in exceeding expectations which this was far from! At no time did Truist respond to my complaint/concern opened with the BBB, but know that mysteriously the lien release shows up once I'm notified by AG Bailey's Office of the inquiry being sent! Lastly, if you're taking the time to read this do yourself a favor and do your due dilligence because if you do and you have other options chances are you will not risk doing business with Truist period!

Worst Bank on Earth by far.

I have been with "this bank" for over 34 years. It has been through many names in that time but my accounts have been in the same place most of the time. Truist will be the end of that relationship because of their horrible customer service. I am an old dude who had a $3000 dollar check he needed to deposit but I live quite a distance from the nearest branch so I did the photo deposit thing. I didnt trust it so I called truist to ask how long it would take. I was told the check should deposit today. When I got up my app indicated that the deposit was there but a while later the money was deducted from my account. I called trusit and was told a hold had been placed on the funds because "the other bank has not told us if they will honor the check" (the other bank says it has already cleared). I told her this was a lie and asked for a supervisor. I got a supervisor named Madison who was rude and everytime I asked a question she would say "I am trying to answer but you won't let me talk". I told her is she had time to cry about me talking too much she had time to answer the damn questions. I was hot and used some cuss words I am sure and she told me "I need you to remain professional ". I told her this was not my profession and that she didnt get to control how I talk while stealing my money. She continued to blow me off so I asked for her supervisor to which she informed me she had no supervisor. I hung up and called back and ask for another supervisor and got Madison again, I asked her to get another supervisor because I wanted to make a complaint against her. She was gone for several minutes and then returned saying "I have my supervisor on the line" and here I 2as led to believe she was the ceo and no one was above her. The new supervisor w as also not much help but said she would file a complaint on my behalf and "give you the tracking number". I said ok. She asked if I was ready to write down the tracking number and I told her I was not because I was driving but my phone records all calls anyway. She told me "T r uist does not allow customers to record our calls". Are you kidding me, they record you but you can't record them. So Truist thinks they can control how I talk when I am upset and also control me recording my calls which is absolutely legal in my state? This is absolutely the worst customer service I have ever received.

Truist should NOT be your Bank!!

if I could give a negative review it would be more accurate!! I have been a customer since 1989 with an average balance of 5 figures. Their last update is TOTALLY trash! There is no customer support, they can't answer questions, can't speak English and their solution is to delete and re-enter causing you to loose all data on the payee! WORST BANKING IN EXISTANCE!!!

SHOCKING SERVICE FROM TRUIST

Despite bing with Truist/Suntrust for 30 years it seems that this crazy bank system is well and truly broken. It took me ONE HOUR and a transatlantic call to have this done. In addition, it appears that one cannot call the Vine Street branch directly becasue - THEY DON'T ANSWER THE PHONE!!!! All this and having to trust this bank with my money - SHOCKING TRUIST BANK SERVICES!! THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT AT THE FIRST OPPORTUNITY I WILL DROP THEM AND USE ANOTHER BANK THAT WILL HOPEFULLY PROVIDE A BETTER SERVICE. Please note that I am NOT addressing my concerns at the agents - I AM ADDRESSING MY CONCERNS AT THE SYSTEM!!! Somebody needs sacked from this organisation!!

I was out of the country for a while…

I was out of the country for a while and was not getting my mail. I did get emails and Truist sent me several during my absence, all of which were attempts to cross sell me other products. I had a CD with them that matured, and they rolled it over. The problem is they only paid me .5% (half of a per cent) while they offered 4% to people off the street. When I got home, I found out and went to the branch to talk about the CD. The teller couldn't have cared less, and I was charged a $25 early closing fee. I called customer service, and the nice lady tried to help but she was not allowed to do so. I moved the CD to BoA at a higher rate and will soon close my DDA and credit cards. Truist lost over $300M in deposits and 2 credit cards over 25 bucks. Indifference in banking is systemic, but Truist leads the pack.
