Easy to work with

The great thing is, that the students come without me searching for them. Therefore it's a bit unpleasant, that I have to teach for two weeks for free, even though it's not certain that the student will stay with me for future lessons.

Stay away from this scam platform at…

Stay away from this scam platform at all cost !!!
For both teachers and students. They are just here to take your money and then ghost you.

I have been teaching on this platform and have been scammed with the very first student. First time this happens to me in more than 8 years of teaching !
Tutoroo state, in their policy that if the student doesn't continue after the non paid classes, we are entitled to get 50% of the lessons price. I have been waiting for the money they owe me since August !! Can you believe that !
After many emails they always answer the same bullshit message that they will transmit the issue to the non existent Paris Team... Nobody ever reply.
I met some students who used this platform in the past and they are also complaining they have never been refunded...
This platform is highly disrespectful towards both the students and teachers.
Please, AVOID it AT ALL COST you can only be deceived.
Prefer ethic and respectful teaching platforms such as Vierbling or Preply.

It took quite a long time to get my payout. I can not believe why it took 8 months to get my fee paid only for one lesson .

Hi Yuko,

Thank you for your feedback.

We sincerely apologize for the delay you experienced with your payout. We understand how frustrating it must have been to wait an extended period of time, especially for a completed lesson.

Payout timelines can occasionally be affected by factors such as lesson confirmation processes, payment method verification, or administrative reviews. That said, an 8-month delay is certainly not the standard experience we aim to provide, and we regret that this was your case.

We appreciate your patience while the matter was being resolved. Please rest assured that we are continuously reviewing our internal processes to ensure payouts are handled more efficiently and transparently for our tutors.

If there is anything further we can assist you with, our support team remains available to help.

Thank you again for sharing your experience.

Great tutor

I’ve had a great experience with Mina so far! Her lessons are well-structured and thoughtfully tailored to my specific needs. She’s also extremely friendly and easy to talk to, which makes practising the language orally feel comfortable and enjoyable. Highly recommend! 😊

Great way to connect with a language Tutor.

We have been looking to get some tutoring in the Czech language for our children, but finding it tricky to connect with a tutor. Tutoroo seemed too good to be true - direct messaging with them and with a day getting replies from both them and the tutor. I was unsure about the upfront fee - but once paid, the tutor made a time to meet, and it couldn't have been smoother. Very happy with this service and connecting us with a great tutor.

Tutoroo was instrumental in connecting my current student Dutch to me. I found the website a bit inflexible in that the lesson duration seems preset at 90 minutes which did not suit either of us. But the website only presets what happens during the first two weeks, the Tutoroo business model is good in that it allows direct communication between student and teacher as soon as the first two weeks is paid for.

Avoid Tutoroo as a tutor or student at all costs

I'm a tutor on Tutoroo and I've been experiencing difficulties when they have to pay me.
Tutoroo policy states that if a student doesn't want to continue with you after the first two lessons, you are entitled to 50% of the total for those first two lessons.
I've been chasing the Tutoroo support team for over two or three months and even though I've got a reply, they haven't paid me, they say they are checking it, it's been confirmed with the student but they haven't paid me yet. It is incredibly time consuming and unprofessional.
As a tutor, I won't recommend Tutoroo, you are better off starting on Preply or iTalki. Those platforms are fair and offer better services for both students and tutors.

Hi Marina,

We’re very sorry to hear about your experience and appreciate you taking the time to share this feedback.

We understand how frustrating delayed payments can be, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and time this has caused you. This is not the standard of service we aim to provide to our tutors.

Your concern has been noted, and we will coordinate directly with our London team and Finance team to review the case and follow up on the outstanding payment in line with our policy. Ensuring clarity and timely resolution is important to us, and we regret that this has not been handled as smoothly as it should have been.

WHO LIKES BEING DECEIVED?

THE TUTOROO PLATFORM STAFF REFUSED TO PUT THINGS STRAIGHT WHEN I POSED THEM REASONABLE QUESTIONS, SUCH AS ''HOW MANY CLASSES AM I SUPPOSED TO GIVE THE STUDENT FOR FREE TO START CHARGING ANYTHING FINALLY?'' UP THIS MOMENT I MET THE STUDENT THRICE AND WITHOUT EARNING ANY PENNY.

(This is in response to your “clarification”)
It turns out that during the course of those first two weeks, the student only received one lesson, as it coincided with the Christmas and New Year holidays. However, you charged the student in advance for four lessons, regardless of whether the student took the lessons in one week or over the course of a year. When I explained that you should issue a refund to the student for this reason, you refused.

This caused a great deal of confusion, where no one seemed to know anything and no one was willing to take responsibility for anything, and in the end I was the only one who lost out. You kept all the money and refused to issue any kind of refund; the student paid for four lessons in advance but only received three lessons, and I did not receive a single penny, either from the student or from you. On top of that, I lost the student because of this situation.

You have not been clear, either with me (as you initially told me one thing and then another depending on what suited you best) or with the student. In conclusion, regardless of what you say, you have misled both of us.

Hi Alan,

Thank you for your message. We understand your frustration and appreciate the opportunity to clarify.

During the tutor sign-up process, the TUTOROO Introductory Guide and terms are presented for review. Profile activation only proceeds once this step is completed, which indicates acceptance of the introductory structure, including lesson handling and payout conditions. All activated tutors are therefore considered to have agreed to these terms before starting lessons on the platform.

As outlined in our Terms and Tutor FAQs, TUTOROO collects and holds the first two weeks of payments for each newly confirmed student. This may cover one lesson per week (2 lessons total) or two lessons per week (4 lessons total), depending on the agreed schedule. After this initial period, tutors keep 100% of their lesson fees directly from the student.

If a student discontinues during the first two weeks, a payout equivalent to 50% of the completed lessons paid for is issued to the tutor, in accordance with our policy.

In your case, although you have met the student three times, the booking is still within the initial two-week introductory period, which is why no payout has been released yet. This does not mean the lessons are unpaid, but that they fall under the standard introductory structure applied to all new tutor–student matches.

We’re sorry if this was unclear at the time and understand how frustrating this may feel. If you would like us to review your case further, please contact us directly with your registered email and student details so we can assist you.

Great job of the support team

Great job of the support team, they are fast and efficientin, and in putting students and tutors in contact. On the other hand I think that giving four, one hour and a half, classes for free is is too much, specially when the student only wants a few lessons. I even had a student that only wanted two classes and told me after the second class.

Money trap and no customer support

After I selected a teacher and the 3 of us (tutoroo, me and the teacher) agreed when to start and how often to meet, I had to pay for the first 2 classes and the rest are to be paid directly to the teacher. However, when I paid the page refreshed and instead of 2 and I paid for 4 classes. I reached out to tutoroo and I was told that after the first 2 classes I will be reimbursed. Thad has not happened and most of my messages on this topic were ignored. Having the option to pay for more than 2 classes when after 2 the teacher has to be paid it itself a money trap. Very disappointing experience. I consider now a debt recovery company .

Appalling Service

I opted for 2 weeks of lessons for 2 people and paid the amount quoted. After the first lesson, the tutor Dudu asked for more money and when I explained what I had been quoted and therefore paid for, the tutor cancelled the remaining 3 lessons and I have not received a refund or any response to my complaints from Tutoroo.
