Overcharging scam

Rented a small truck with 3/4 tank of fuel in it per the gauge and record. Retuned the unit with more fuel than I left with (7/8 tank). When I retuned the truck, was informed I would see the return details in an Email even though I asked for an invoice at that time.. Email received showed 5/8 of a tank OR about 1/4 shortage and was billed their inflated fuel figure for their made up discrepancy. $20.00+.

2nd transaction. rented a trailer. Specifically asked would I receive a credit back if I brought back early? Answer was yes.
Again asked for an invoice at that time and again was told that is not how we do it.

Received the invoice email, low and behold was billed for an extra day.
Customer service ( cannot reach the location directly) indicated that the management has 3 days to respond.

I will not deal with this location again, 29100 US 27, Leesburg, FL.

This sounds like a scam that may be shared with every customer . You can overcharge everyone but NOT everyone will catch it or question it.. That adds up to a lot of money at the end of the month/year.

Shame on you and your lack of ethics.

Uhaul 2000, rue Notre-Dame Est, Montréal

The Uhaul located in Montréal, Québec, at 2000, rue Notre-Dame est is absolutely horrendous. The customer service is atrocious. The staff swore at me, and threatened me. One of the rude managers called the police on me with false accusations. I have a civil matter ongoing against them. Do not go there, they are just awful.

Go with Penske!

I reserved a truck and trailer 2 weeks prior to my move. An agent called the day before pickup to let me know I’d have to drive an hour in one direction to get a truck and then 2 hours from there in the other direction to get the trailer and they won’t cover your fuel usage or personal vehicle miles to get to either. I called Penske and the price matched U-Haul and had equipment in town. The agent with Penske stated they get these kind calls all the time. U-Haul you should probably change your business model. Like another review I read, I would’ve given U-Haul zero stars if it would’ve let me! They just lost my 1600 dollars.

My experience with 3rd party dealers…

My experience with 3rd party dealers has been horrible. I requested to book a one way trip to one city 30 minutes out. They accidentally booked my drop off point in the city I was departing from. The 3rd party dealer told me I could call later and change the drop off point at any time. The office was closed and couldn't change my drop off point. I called three times and each time they direct me to a different branch all of them could not make the change I wanted. I ender up having to drive to back to the original city.

I had a very simple question

I had a very simple question: Could I return boxes I had bought several years earlier and never used and for which I no longer had the receipt? I spent 10 minutes navigating U-Haul's extremely complex phone tree filled with irritating, repetitive announcements and then holding--only to reach a representative who had no idea how to answer my question.

Uhaul reserved at your location!! Not!!

Ok so they definitely pull you in by letting u reserve the exact truck or trailer u need at the exact location u need it,but they will email u to inform u that your uhaul will be moved to a different location, then youll probably get that email atleast 2 to 3 times before your moving day. On moving day you will have to drive to wherever it is they have your uhaul,oh and u have to pay by the mile so its a win win for them. On a lighter note they have really nice trucks!

Renter Beware

I had one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with a rental company. I originally reserved a truck in Louisa, Kentucky, but the day before pickup, I was informed via text that my reservation had been moved to Ashland, Kentucky—35 miles away. This last-minute change forced me to find alternate transportation to the new location, costing me time, money, and unnecessary stress. The “compensation” offered—only 40 miles—was insultingly inadequate for the inconvenience caused.

When I arrived at the Ashland location, the customer service was unprofessional and dismissive. One employee sat with his feet propped on a chair and didn’t even acknowledge me, while another behaved in a way that did not inspire confidence or professionalism. I did not feel respected or valued as a paying customer.

The worst part, however, came later. During my move from Kentucky to New Mexico, I experienced a tire blowout roughly 1.5 hours outside of Little Rock, Arkansas. The roadside technician told me that the inner tire was completely destroyed and that the outer tire—a cheap retread—had been carrying all the weight. He was shocked that I’d even made it that far without a serious accident. U-Haul’s failure to properly inspect and maintain its vehicles put my life at risk.

When I tried to report these issues, I was bounced back and forth between the local office and corporate, with each claiming it was the other’s problem. No one took responsibility, and no meaningful resolution was ever offered.

This experience shows gross negligence in vehicle maintenance and a complete lack of accountability in customer service. U-Haul’s disregard for safety and professionalism is unacceptable. I will never rent from U-Haul again, and I strongly urge others to think twice before trusting this company with their move—or their safety.

U-Haul Moving & Storage of Midway

This review is for the U-Haul Moving & Storage of Midway location (4705 W 47th St, Chicago, IL 60632)

I find most negative reviews to be unconstructive, and instead believe in speaking with management and resolving issues like adults. I'm only posting this because the manager I spoke with by phone actively refused to address the situation. With that in mind, I'm now posting a full review. This review concerns a rental totaling $1,354.

When I returned the truck, I followed the posted instructions to wait in my vehicle for an attendant. After waiting 5+ minutes with no acknowledgment, I went inside and found 2 employees at the front counter with no other customers present, unaware anyone was outside.

Vanessa, the staff member who performed the check-in, did not verify the dolly and moving blankets until I asked her to. She said she did not see them on my order. If I hadn't spoken up, I have serious concerns that I could've been charged for equipment I had already returned. That is a clear lapse in intake procedure. With that said, Vanessa was very friendly and professional, unlike her manager, Nancy.

Later I realized I left my house key on the truck keyring. I called the location and spoke with Nancy. The very first thing I said was that leaving the key behind was my fault, and I took responsibility upfront. I also told her that I was calling her instead of immediately leaving a bad review, as I assumed that this courtesy would be appreciated by any professional manager.

Instead, her only response was that “U-Haul advises customers not to put personal keys on the key chain,” as if citing policy excused all other responsibilities. While I was forthright about my own mistake, Nancy repeatedly refused to acknowledge the obvious question: why did no one notice or notify me that my key was attached when I physically handed the keyring to the attendant?

I didn't drop the keys in a box. I handed them directly to Vanessa, and she then used that same keyring, now containing 2 keys instead of 1, to start the truck to check the mileage and fuel level. It's reasonable to ask how a second key on the keyring was not noticed at that moment. And since the truck has been rented to another customer, I still don't know what happened to my key. Was it left on the ring and handed to the next customer? Or was it removed and simply never logged or returned to me? If the latter, why wasn't I contacted?

When I attempted to explain that the real issue was the lack of accountability after the fact, Nancy cut me off, told me I could leave a review, and hung up on me.

I called back several times because I absolutely didn't deserve to be hung up on and thought the call might've just disconnected, but no one answered. I then contacted U-Haul customer service and spoke with Dena, who was very understanding, and asked her if we could add Nancy to our call to resolve things. Dena agreed, placed me on hold, contacted the location, and returned to inform me that Nancy refused to join the call and admitted to hanging up on me because “the call wasn’t going anywhere.” I can't recall ever being hung up on by a business in my entire life, and apparently Nancy considers that an acceptable way to treat customers.

This isn't a small complaint. It reflects a breakdown in both front-line procedure and managerial accountability: failure to verify returned equipment, mishandling of personal property, hanging up on a customer, refusal to join customer service and me on the phone, and open dismissal of a $1,300+ paying customer who was attempting to resolve the matter respectfully.  A manager who not only hangs up on a customer but later confirms that she believes this is appropriate conduct is demonstrating that she is not equipped to hold a managerial role.

In closing, I offered Nancy the opportunity to resolve the matter privately, and she instead told me to leave a review, which I've now done. No customer should have to chase down accountability after admitting fault upfront and trying to handle the matter constructively. Until U-Haul assigns management here that is capable of professionalism and basic respect for customers, I can't recommend this location.

Well I had a break down on my on my motorcycle

Well I had a break down on my motorcycle in Chattanooga TN. Last weekend I had to rent a truck to load bike up , well 620 miles on this truck with a driver's mirror that I could only see the ground , the mirror was so loose that I couldn't use it so switching lanes was quit dangerous and even more so at night time , not to mention that the center console was covered in someone else's spilt coffee dried up , nasty
And to my surprise U-Hhaul doesn't give any discounts to the Veterans, or First responders , very disappoint that a major co. Like U-Haul can't give back a little to these people

Pay for the risk of being stranded

I rented a truck and they knew the right rear tire wouldn't stay aired up and they didn't say anything about it and rented it to me anyway and risked me being stranded and when I came back with the truck and told them about having to put air in the tire every little bit and ask for a refund and they said no. I have the refrigerator I was moving sitting in the yard of my apartment cause of the tire couldn't complete the move of the appliances and I also called in to tell them about my experience and Gabriella got hateful with me and hung up on me. The appliance dolly I rented they didn't have so they took 11 dollars off. Cost 189.00 for the nightmare for a day I had save yourself the hassle and rent from someone who will treat you right.

Never again

This has been one of the worst experiences we’ve ever had with a company. We will never rent from U-Haul again.
We rented a 26’ moving truck to move from Utah to California. Only 300 miles into our trip, two tires blew out due to being worn and unsafe. It happened on a dangerous, winding canyon road — putting our lives at risk. The police had to come to protect us and divert traffic. They even had to call the Department of Transportation and a towing company because the truck couldn’t be left where it was.
U-Haul’s roadside assistance was a nightmare. They took hours to respond and argued about paying for the tow because it wasn’t one of their “preferred” companies — even though the police said we had no choice. We were told if we didn’t agree, the truck would be impounded for the weekend. After endless back-and-forth, U-Haul finally allowed us to be towed to the nearest city.
Once there, the problems continued. Dozens of tire shops were available, but U-Haul insisted on using only one vendor — who couldn’t come for another three hours. The customer service representative assigned to our case was incredibly difficult to work with. After hours of stress, they finally agreed to pay for a hotel room. We walked there only to find out they never actually booked it. We waited 45 minutes in the lobby while the rep sorted it out. Then, she offered to DoorDash food for us, but never followed through — she even claimed the restaurant was closed when it wasn’t. We ended up stranded, hungry, and exhausted.
This experience has been completely unacceptable. Sitting on the side of the road for hours in dangerous conditions because of U-Haul’s poor maintenance and customer service is inexcusable. The tires on this truck are still dangerously worn, and we are genuinely anxious about the rest of the trip.
Please look into other companies for your moving needs. U-Haul’s lack of safety, responsibility, and compassion has been beyond disappointing.

Price gouging by U HALL

Several years ago, I moved from Pa. to Fl. using the large trailer for $400.00. Two years later, I moved to Ar. and again, the large trailer for $400.00 six months ago I moved to Pennsylvania using the largest trailer $400.00. Six months later, I placed a reservation for the medium-sized trailer to AR. and advised the cost was $700.00. Reluctantly, I provided information 5x8 midsize trailer with Reservation Number 93275306, told that this would lock in the cost and I may still cancel. A week later, I contacted U-Hall and told the cost would now be $770.00 I do not want to purchase a house, so I decided to cancel and let the property here, and able to purchase new Items I will need to let here. The last Trailer I rented in Ar. was full of mud inside and the outside required me to take it to a car wash. I just can not comprehend how a price goes from $400.00 to $700 and a week later to $770 in one week after being told the rate was locked in. I shall be certain to message all my followers to be wear. for uhall arbitrarily, unilaterally, and capriciously instituted price gouging absent any competion

Took advantage of a family emergency.
I had rented a truck for a one-way rental as my sister was going to drive my car while I drove the truck to the destination. Unfortunately, my sister was hospitalized. Therefore, I drove the truck to the destination by myself and returned it to the original pickup location within the 2 day rental period. The original rental, including insurance was $364.99. They charged me an ADDITIONAL $631.56 upon return which makes no sense at all. You better hope everything goes according to plan when booking your UHAUL or you’ll pay for it.

I rented pods to move

I rented pods to move. The pods say right on it that they move anywhere. This is not true. I was quoted a price for a move to Raton New Mexico. Then I was told the boxes could be taken there. I was then told if I had an address in Trinidad colorado I could have them shipped there.
Well what they mean by ship anywhere is, it can only go to a pod facility. Which was over 100 miles from my destination. It took me about 6 weeks to fill 3 pods. Not one did someone say anything about not shipping to my new residence. I didn't think to ask because it says it "ships anywhere ". So about 1000 later I'm stuck holding the bag, so to speak. I had to hire a company to unload the pods and take it to my new home. Corporate called before my move and indicated it was my fault. I didn't ask the right questions. Hello! It's not my job to know their job.

Fraud written all over it

I do not see an option of giving 0 starts, Beware of Uhaul being one of the most fraudulent companies you can rent from, no matter how big their name might seem. I would go with budget or another company. They overcharged me on multiple occasions, instead f the amount we agreed upon, they did not issue receipts on most occasions, They claim to have attempted to contact me and not able to reach me, yet they were able to reach into my bank account for the same amount twice in the same month for over $2,000.
Think twice if you plan on using Uhaul, just buckle up for the unpleasant ride.

This involves Uhaul identity theft

This involves identity theft and the danger of having your personal information in a Uhaul account. Someone out of state in Kansas rented a Uhaul truck using information from my Uhaul account. They even had the address in my account updated to a Kansas address. They did not have any charge card info as I always deleted that information after a rental. This is probably a result of the Uhaul data breach from 2022-2023. By right, the agent that rented the truck should have detected something was not correct but apparently did not thoroughly do an identity check. I became aware of the rental when Uhaul sent me an email requesting a customer review for the rental. I gave a one-star review explaining the identity theft and also emailed one of their contact emails pointing out the identity theft. Uhaul never responded and apparently they don't care. I logged into my Uhaul account and deleted the bogus address. The real danger here is if a rented Uhaul truck is stolen or used in a crime while rented under my name. I have taken steps by filing a complaint with the FTC and put out an identity theft alert.

TERRIBLE SERVICE

A U-Haul box was delivered to my neighbour, however the driver dropped the box partially on my driveway, even though their customer brought up concerns.
Then when I needed to get into my driveway and could not, we contacted U-Haul for them to remove it and they refused. My area does not allow street parking and I had to ask another neighbour to park on their driveway.
Extremely bad customer service.
