This is a last resort place to live

This is a last resort place to live. The management is simply awful and they act like they are your parents. They are completely allowed to enter your room unannounced and search through all cabinets drawers rooms etc… they will fine you for having a bike in you’re room, because they have a “locked” bike storage which I utilized at the beginning of the year and my $9000 bike was stolen out of, and the complex did absolutely nothing about it. Multiple times the bike room was breached and thousands of dollars worth of equipment was stolen from COLLEGE students. The facilitys are nice but none are available after 10pm. They will do absolutely everything in their power in order to fine you. Whether you’re 21 and of legal age they will search their security cameras and of they see any alcoholic beverage box you will be fined $200 per container. They say there is a 24/7 security team monitoring the cameras which I believe when it comes to fining students, but not when it comes to making sure those students thousand(s) dollar bikes and other equipment is secure. The first couple months are fine, and they know that so they will try to get you to resign your lease a month into living there and it’s very difficult to get out of your lease. They also cover their butts very well in contracts.Do. Not. Live. Here. Unless it is an absolute last resort.
P.S Jo Hmm is not my name my business email is just set up werid. If you love your child don’t let them live here.

I am a gay UCL student who lived at…

I am a gay UCL student who lived at Pacific Court, Unite Students, London E1. In November 2025 a Unite Students employee directed a homophobic slur at me during a routine housing interaction. I raised a formal complaint the same day.
What followed was two months of Unite Students failing to keep me safe in my own home. Despite their internal HR investigation being ongoing, I repeatedly encountered the same employee on site — inside the building, in communal areas — throughout December 2025 and January 2026. Each time I raised it in writing. Each time management called it “urgent.” Each time nothing changed for weeks. Management’s own emails acknowledge that his continued reappearances “formed part of the decision making” that eventually led to him being barred. It took over two months to remove a man I had reported for a homophobic attack from the building where I lived.
A formal police hate incident report was filed. I engaged Galop, the national LGBT+ anti-abuse charity. I have a formal psychiatric diagnosis whose symptoms — chronic emotional instability and dependence on environmental stability — were directly aggravated by this incident and Unite’s handling of it.
Separately, Unite Students misdirected a £288.74 rent credit refund to a closed bank account despite my explicit instruction. They then told me the refund could not be recalled. This is factually false — Lloyds Bank confirmed a recall is standard procedure and Unite never initiated one. Seven months later the money has still not been returned.
Seven months. No apology. No compensation. No accountability. Their published diversity commitments are not worth the paper they are printed on.

Beware! Unapologetic breaching of your rights!

Please BEWARE
It is not what you might think it is..

You may be kept awake for months by wild booze and weed unrests taking place till morning, right behind your door, and no one will care, even though you worked so hard to get enrolled in the course, and paying a fortune to rent there.

The management team will be returning all your emails saying "they take the matter seriously", and just sign their letters with random names without mentioning any positions or contact details so you are not able to chase them.

In the end, if you keep complaining and record proof, they will open your door with their key card and THROW AWAY ALL YOUR BELONGING,

like the

STUDENT MANAGER

did to my daughter trying to harras and sush her and me, without any consequence and with NO shift from her position. Further more - with NO apology from her!!!

After my daughter withdrew from her studies,

SHE

did let the unrest makers go back to piling the empty bottles up on the window sill as a trophy - Unite Students, Olympic Way, London, 6th floor, the left corner window.

All the unrests are backed and covered by the management team as they mind their profit, not your wellbeing.

They are NOT afraid of the video proof as the Police are aware of their actions and do not consider that police cases.

Whatever badly you are treated by your neighbours, they will not raise a finger to stop that, as they rest assured you are trapped by their Tenancy Agreement, which they are in breach of on their own!

The only thing they care about is their LOW RATING on the platforms like TrustPilot.

So, Go AHEAD friends! 👍😃

*Post Scriptum:
My daughter is now in a far much better study and campus, and very happy!

I am happy with the way the staff handled my requests

I am happy with the way the staff is answering inquiries and attending to people, though sometimes it takes them ages to respond, which may be due to their tight schedule and the number of inquiries they handle. They were humble with me; they assisted me every step of the way, from booking to payment. They need to improve their response time and ensure their accommodation is very accommodating for students. I give you guys gracias!

Corporate greed doing it's thing.

Unite Students is exactly what happens when private equity profits from students’ basic right to safe accommodation while delivering conditions that no paying tenant should ever have to endure.
I visited my daughter’s flat in Bristol, and what I saw was shocking.
There was black mould throughout the kitchen. A leak under the sink had clearly been left unresolved for so long that everything stored in the cupboards became mouldy and unusable. You literally could not keep food or kitchen items there. Unite Students’ solution? Put a dehumidifier under the sink and tell students to leave the cupboard door open. That was apparently their idea of “fixing” the problem.
One of the bedroom windows on the 5th floor would not close properly, allowing rainwater and cold wind to pour into the room. It took TWO MONTHS to repair.
The carpets were infested with bugs. Reception staff dismissed concerns and casually claimed they were “harmless” and “nothing to worry about.” My daughter ended up collecting a handful of them herself just to prove the problem existed.
Then, in early May, Unite Students decided to erect scaffolding around the building for exterior painting work and covered the windows, supposedly to stop workmen from seeing inside. The result was claustrophobic, dark, oppressive living conditions that felt like psychological warfare. My daughter’s anxiety became so severe she required medical treatment.
How can anyone be expected to live, study, and pay extortionate rents in conditions like this?
Unite Students should be ashamed. While announcing £97 million in profits in 2025, they seem unwilling to provide even the most basic standard of safe, decent accommodation for the students who fund those profits.
Students are not investment assets. They are young people trying to live and study in dignity.

Hi Marco,

We’re sorry to hear that your daughter's experience at Unite Students was affected by a few issues, including mould and scaffolding. That’s not what we want for our residents and we understand why this would be disappointing and concerning.

If there’s anything still outstanding, we're here to help. The quickest your daughter can get support is via the app, or they can visit reception if they'd rather speak to someone face to face. Or alternatively, all of our contact details can be found here: https://www.unitestudents.com/contact-us.

Would give 0 if we could

Would give 0 if we could.
Unite Sheffield Halls, awful, dirty, in disrepair and would not recommend.
Also, my child was living here and had to withdraw from her course due to medical/mental health reasons after 2 weeks...we met all criteria to be released from contract but company would not accept. Awful company, paid them £5000 for 2 weeks accomodation! Disgusting treatment. We will be seeking legal advice and complaining to the Ombudsman.
Maybe we should all go to one of those rogue trader programmes on TV to expose this issue?

Absolutely appalling experience for my…

Absolutely appalling experience for my son. Has had to live for months with disgusting food preparation facilities. Disgusting and dirty area, flies, mouldy food, dirty floors and no matter how many times he and us complained it has never been resolved. Charge a lot of money for London accommodation and yet when it comes to trying to just get a reasonable standard of accommodation to be provided they are not interested. On site staff are useless. I wish we had never used this company for our son’s accommodation and will never recommend them. You should be ashamed of what you have done. Disgusted.

I want to give 0 score honestly

I want to give 0 score honestly. Worst place ever seen. They allow weed cigarettes in the corridors and reception will not care to bother. This is not just only one staff’s problem. The management team just kick the problems around. Life’s advice do not come here and leave a 1 star after you read just to save more lives.

Never book with unite

I booked with unite for university but for personal reasons had to move back home 2 weeks after I moved in. I emailed and called unite multiple times to see if I could cancel my contract as they would be charging me £8000 for a room I was no longer using. Unite basically said they can’t do anything but I had to fill the room with someone myself and then my tenancy would end. It is now the end of my contract and I have been charged over £8000 for a room I only stayed in for 2 weeks and I am now left with next to no money. Never ever book with unite!
