After being a trade unionist for 44yrs the last 20 in Unite. I would expect a bit more respect.

This was my response from Unite after paying 20 yrs of fees. Doesn’t feel like a response from an organisation set up to help workers reform.

Good Afternoon,

We are unable to find an active Unite membership on our system for you. We have a closed membership on record, for which the last payment received was June 2023, so we are unable to provide you with a membership number.

If you started a new membership with us after June 2023, please let us know what payment method you are using to pay your subs, and we can try and locate a membership number.

For your information, we longer use Unite Wills for our Free Will service for our members.

Best regards,

If you get Officer Janet MacLeod

If you get Officer Janet MacLeod, you can expect zero support. She will take ages to reach out to you, and once she decides to contact you, she will just criticize you, talk over you, and blame you for not giving her enough time to review your case—even though she had the information for over a week. She will keep talking in circles and won’t give you a proper answer either. An absolute waste of time.

Terrible Union

As with everyone else, Unite were happy to take my money for years but when I needed some advice, they ignored all calls/webform requests. I then ended the direct debit and received a letter requesting for me to reinstate it, before they ever replied to my need for support.

Rude and zero-knowledge advisors

Rang up to seek help on how long I'd need to wait to make a claim, the 'advisor' which you definitely couldn't call her that could answer ZERO of my questions, so I had to fill out long forms and go through the process to sign up, to then be able to be told I can't make a claim.
Also the second advisor I had was SO rude, like actual disgustingly rude.

Very bad service provided and not being…

Very bad service provided and not being helpful with my case against the company that unfairly dismissed me and other terrible things that it did to me!

Unprofessional members of staff and they are not there to help/protect their members wholeheartedly, which is a shame!

Shame on you Unite the Union! Never use this service again and must be avoided at all cost! WASTE OF TIME & MONEY!

Avoid at all costs

Avoid at all costs, totally unreliable and unprofessional. Seem to forget they have a duty of care to their members. They will lie and deceive on promises they make. When challenged and know they are in the wrong, try and get you to fight your own case via Amicus!. Total and utter waste of your hard earned money.

Great Work - Unite the Union Rep (Pauline)

I was having problems at work where I was victimised and discriminated against, I was then told I would have to attend a disciplinary meeting where I could be dismissed. I contacted my union Unite and was given union representative Pauline Adebajo, who represented me in my meeting. Pauline was fantastic, she only had a short space of time to understood my case and situation but did so well. Not only did she do well, in my meeting Pauline explained the situation in great detail. Pauline put across valid points which proved discrimination and victimisation from the company.

DO NOT GIVE YOUR MONEY TO THEM

DO NOT GIVE YOUR MONEY TO THEM

What was I told by one of their officers just before my grievance Are you being greedy.

They are not there to help you, they ignore calls and if you do have a serious claim and well supported they will fight you instead of fighting your workplace and their lawyer. They work in cohesion with employers to get you off their books.

A total sham, and they are corrupt, from top to bottom it feeds into employers from receptionist to officers to their legal panel. There's a reason why they are on the news for corruption investigation the culture internally is still seething with corruption and also they discriminate people.

This is not a union but a mafia extorting members for protection money and when you do need help they don't have the money as they spent on shiny new hotels!!!

Save your money you’re better off representing yourself!

Complete waste of money don’t bother joining you’ll get nothing for membership.

Happy for their representatives to bad mouth their colleagues all day long and doing nothing about it when complaints are made.

Just remember the union representatives are not there to help you, they are there because it gets them out of the job they are supposed to be doing in the work place !

If you are a person of colour, I would avoid joining unite as you will not be supported, join gmb or another union. Absolutely shocking support.

This was possibly the worst experience…

This was possibly the worst experience I have encountered. Seeking support and advice on an employment matter, and the agent who was assigned to me was a rude, aggressive and ignorant individual. The questions I asked were perfectly reasonable, but the guy just spoke to me as if I were stupid, and didn't even try to investigate the facts.

What a waste of time and money, membership immediately cancelled. Do not recommend at all..

Really bad, don't use it

If i could give minus rate i would.
Its been moths since i have asked for help and even made a compliment and so far I still received no help. I am deeply disappointed. To pay monthly so much and receive NOTHING, its pointless.

Don't join this union.

I was employed in a North Wales health trust and was having serious problems with fellow staff members, I sent several emails to the Union and left 5 phone messages over a month period.
Nothing was responded to, until I launched a complaint.
I had another issue with a previous trust tyring to defraus me out of £1200 that had already been paid by my agency. They said It was somethign they couldn't deal with, and kept respnding with try the small claims court, which wasn't the issue.
It went to the head office, and basically the attitude was 'It's not our fault'. So I was left unrepresented after paying my dues for a year-a complete waste of you money. Look at other options, there are other unions who are more practical.

Waste of money !!

Been with unite for 20 years but when I needed them for an investigation they didn't even turn up . They told me to attend my investigation on my own after trying to contact them many times . I did win my investigation but I did it on my own . Very disappointed with no support and lack of communication with unite .
Wasted all that money on nothing.
If anything I feel I have been mis-sold a ppi ! They should give me a refund for the last 20 years .
