Never never again

Never never again!! Booked Hamburg Villach with return trip. It cost us 1800 euro. Old dirty wagons. They downgrade the trip without any chanche for us to accept.
The car was damaged when unload.
We emailed several times with claim of compensations for the downgrade of our trip and the damage of the car. They have stopped answer our mail now.....

Never use this Company!!!!
We were booked on the train from Verona to Hamburg on the 20 Th. Juli 2019.
Two day prior to journey we we received an E-mail say that the product that we ordered we not available (two room suite). As Train4you was not able to provide the product we decided to cancel the trip and asked for our money back. I har now sent and E-mail 3 times, and I get no answer!
They know they have to pay compensation, but they clearly try to avoid by ignore my E-mail.

Travelled one way from Verona to…

Travelled one way from Verona to Dusseldorf on 29/30 June 2019. The train was very old, the organisation was non-existent and the service poor. The only highlight was that the food was good. We appeared to have been over booked even though we booked in the first week booking was open. They only told us the night before and tried to offer us 50 euros compensation. We paid more than that for the difference in accommodation so I wrote an email to them on our return. Over a month on there has been no apology, no refund and no compensation. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!

Will definitely use this service again!

Although the rolling stock is old, it was absolutely fine for a nights journey. We have used DB previously for the Düsseldorf to Villach run and were surprised that there were no towels in the three bunk compartment. Now we know, we will be prepared. All much better than several days of car travel through Europe so will definitely use this service again. On the minus side, unloading at Villach was protracted. Two cars broke down and there didn’t seem to be any protocol for getting them off so others could disembark. Marshalling would have been advantageous to speed up disembarkation.

Avoid!

We booked a car and sleeping compartment but on booking there was no way to pay online. We received a booking confirmation with dates we needed to pay and showing their bank details. I contacted them before the deposit was due to arrange a card payment. The staff were very polite and prompt in replying but they informed me they do not take cards! After further consideration, we decided not to risk booking with a company that does not take cards as it seemed suspicious. They then told us that we should pay a cancellation fee of 35% - again by bank transfer. Absolutely no way I would do payments of this size by bank transfer as I use a travel credit card for fee free euro payments and for the protection a credit card gives. Their terms and conditions feel risky as nothing is made clear on booking - only in small print in their detailed terms & conditions. For a company to not take cards for online bookings is just bizarre. After having read the other reviews of this company regarding the quality of the train and service, I recommend avoiding them.

Never ever

Never ever! The worst experience! We paid 650 euro for one way journey from Villach to Hamburg for 3 bunk beds sleeper and car. We don't remember seeing so dirty train since India. It has not been cleaned for ages, it stinked and the toilets were unberable (most of them were out of order). The noise preventes us from sleeping and except one person the rest of staff was unfriendly. We would be much better off driving all the way.

Our experience was mixed

Our experience was mixed. I have travelled on sleeper trains a lot so have realistic expectations. It is utilitarian at best. The booking process in advance and loading at Dusseldorf were fairly straightforward. The staff were helpful and friendly I found. Rolling stock is actually very old - as the case with most European night trains a mixture of cars some (the sleeping cars as opposed to couchettes) dating from the mid 1950s but modernised in 1990s. Bits and pieces don't work. The aircon did work but it's fairly impotent against the heatwave conditions in European summer and the trains being stabled in baking sunshine during the day. Counterintuitively best to keep windows shut until the temperature can be brought down a bit (remember can be usually 30c+ outside so bringing warm air in may not help much) until nighttime temperatures dip then open window. Downside will be the noise. In a T3 compartment (three bunk sleeper) the top bunk is the hottest and the middle bunk the coolest. There's a relatively clean washbasin. The toilets at the end of the carriage are not somewhere you want to dwell ... and no showers of course in a train of this vintage . Beds convert from daytime mode seating with the steward's help. Bedding is a sheet, continental quilt and pillow. They were clean and, being European gauge, beds long enough for all but the tallest person, quite in comparison to the more lilliputian British sleeping cars.

In our family kids literally slept like babies, adults more fitfully. We didn't pay for meals - by all accounts it will be basic and far from value for money, but the dining car does have actual table cloths and movable chairs so you're probably paying for the (rarity these days) of a meal at 100mph rather than the sort of gastronomy that Poirot would expect. Our return journey from Verona was delayed 3.5 hrs owing to a loco fault which when repaired was not cleared for use by the Italian authorities. Communications from staff were fairly regular but not very precise (they couldn't really estimate the time to fix with accuracy) but communications from the Italian station operators RFI were non existent. It was like a platform of stateless people caught in some sort of dipomatic meltdown between two countries. When we finally got going the train made up 1.5 hrs and was 2 hrs late arriving Dusseldorf.
Breakfast is a packaged chocolate croissant and choice of hot drink unless you pay for more. There's a selection of things to buy. A bottle of becks was €3.50.

The whole thing is not cheap. The train looks (and is) ancient compared to the smart OBB NightJet that departs from the platform alongside. But surprisingly it does was its supposed to do which is move you, your family and your car 1000 km without missing any daytime and there's something to be said for that. Plus it's a bit of an adventure. Though definitely not something that a generation of those used to slick TGVs and ICEs might recognise as train travel.

Very bad

Never, never, never again. We used to travel by car train but this was an absolute disaster.
The train was late and nobody at the trainstation told us why and how long it would take. We had a delay and you promissed us compensation you are recyuired to due to EU law. You did not give the compensation so far.
Two toilets were dirty and not working in the beginning.
We payed €35,-- per person for a 3 course meal; a total ripoff. You get a simple salad, a microwave meal and a desert that is half frozen. There were no reservation for the dining compartment; we had to come backt three times to see if there was any place. The reservation is simply not working. We got angry and because we refused to go out of the way, they served the diner in our compartment. But again, it was a waste of money, totally uneatable.
Your staff did not give a damn. They were very rude.
The aircon did not work and one of the beds was broken. It is really a big shame you operate like this. everything you do is a ripoff; you provide zero service, and you have non functioning material. I even wonder how safe it is to travel with you.
Even your website does not give a real view of reality; you use foto’s of cabin’s that were not there on our trip, you talk about aircon cabin’s (were not working), you were unable to serve diner at the dining cabin etc, your crew does NOT help with making the beds etc, etc, etc..
When filing a complaint, and demanding compensation, you threaten with law suits. You answer mail anonymous. Your service is in our experience a complete rip off.
All I can say to people; DO NOT BOOK THIS TRAIN!!

Don’t use them!!!

Don’t use them! Not only is the price rather unreasonable considering that the trains are from the 1970’ies, so that you are not at all rested when you leave the train - I was just as tired as the times we’ve driven the car to the south of Europe ourselves without an overnight stop, but on top of that we now also have a dent in the car as a “sweet” reminder of our trip, since our car had not be securely fastened. A damage Train4You deemed sufficiently negligible for them not to cover! !
