I am a member of USAA

I am a member of USAA. I have a credit card and life insurance. This is where I lost all trust in them. I had two external banks linked for payment to my credit card. My daughter wanted to get a bank account. I told her to get a checking account through USAA by using my member number as reference she got a personal loan. She set up auto pay, but every time she turned it off instead of letting her make a manual payment. They took money without authorization out of my account, then tried to explain to me that it had to be set up on her end this lie continued with every agent I spoke to. My daughter has no access to my banking information and all of her transactions only has her account information on there. I removed my linked bank accounts. I had my daughter call them again and authorize me to talk to them about her Loan. I explained to them once again that they took money out of my account as payment for her loan, and they tried to say that that was impossible. Then they told me that the bank account was removed yesterday. I informed them that I’m the one who removed it. Here’s the thing if it was set up manually on her account it would’ve still been on that account. I removed it from my account then they no longer could take my money for her account but the loan was already paid off through my account. These people are corrupt. They know that they would have a legal situation if they admitted this so they kept with a lie one went as far as to say you were asked if you are the owner of the account, this only proves my case I have nothing to do with her account but yet using my member number as a reference, made them feel as if they could steal money out of my account which they did and they paid off her loan through my bank account and I have all intentions on ending all affairs with USAA and I will tell my fellow veterans to be warned about this company. No excuse

Fraudulent charge

I had a fraudulent charge (fake "gold" jewelry) on my USAA credit card, and proved it to USAA. Because I only had the charge receipt, not an itemized receipt, they denied my claim. My sister had a description scribbled on a post-it note by the seller of her purchase, made on her USAA credit card at the same time with the same person at the same shop as my purchase, and they honored her dispute. USAA promised me that I would not have to pay for fraudulent charges, but based on this technicality, they did not honor their promise. USAA FSB has become a big bank with executives who are out for profit and themselves. I "contacted" (as I was able to through their labyrinthine system) them at all levels up to the COO about this. They were non-responsive and dismissive at all levels. I've moved all of our money (except a bit to cover bills I might have forgotten to switch) to Navy Federal Credit Union. NFCU has much higher ratings and evidently still remembers its roots.

Senior citizens HATE new learning curves.

I am 72 years old. Senior citizens do not do well with new ongoing learning curves. Today I attempted to pay bills, only to learn there is still yet another NEW WAY to select from the calendar. The instruction notice is so confusing. It sounds like the date I choose on the little calendar is the day the processing begins. But NOOOOO. The processing started immediately. But wasn't that the way it was BEFORE???? This company had better start consulting senior members BEFORE the young techies start writing new code for changes on the website. You will lose us all!!! We will move to other banks. The changes you make are NOT better. They are worse. The old way to pay bills, like two years ago, was so nice. I could see on a single page my whole list of accounts to pay at a glance. It warned me if I left out a step on any single account because it was highlighted in red. I could see the red at a glance because every account was entirely visible on the same page. Can I go back to that? This newer one-at-time process takes so much longer. And it's not more efficient. Fire your current technies and get new ones who understand KEEP IT SIMPLE.

I’ve been with USAA over 25 years and…

I’ve been with USAA over 25 years and have not had an issue. That is until my vehicle was vandalized and I had to file a claim. Apparently they had issue with the date I added comprehensive coverage to my vehicle. It had been at my son’s house so I only had PL & PD because it was not being driven. I added comprehensive as my husband was going to drive it back to our home which is 200 miles away from my son. We live in a very heavily wooded area with an over abundance of deer, so logically thinking, I added the additional coverage in case we did encounter a deer in our travels. The coverage was added a week prior to my Jeep being vandalized, however, it went into effect at 12:01am the day I added it. Therefore my additional coverage was in place prior to the time of the incident. USAA decided to assign an investigator who thinks he’s a Jr. James Bond on a multimillion dollar case. The cost to fix my Jeep was $1400.00, after my deductible they would pay out $900.00. The Jr. James Bond investigator was very rude and kept implying that I was trying to commit insurance fraud. He was a complete ass and twisted everything I explained to him into something nefarious. My career is in corporate finance and I could lose my job immediately if accused of such trivial stupidity. Who would commit insurance fraud over $900.00? For some reason, he could not understand that my Jeep was at my son‘s house 200 miles away from my home when this incident happened and I had no knowledge. It’s accusations like his that make USAA lose customers and trust. I’m switching insurance companies immediately. Now thanks to their over zealous ego driven buffoon who feels the need to prove God only knows what they have lost over $4000.00 I was paying for all my coverages. Pure idiocy.

We have been doing business with this…

We have been doing business with this company for many years, for auto and home insurance and a credit card. The payments have NEVER been late, and the credit card is paid in full every month on time. The representatives are rude and don't seem to know what they are doing. This time it is a late fee for a payment I sent in through my bank, for which I have proof of payment. I won't pay the late fee, not for the amount but for the principle. I have the proof; do they have proof it wasn't on their end that the mistake was made?

My first credit card is with USAA when I was 18. I 've been with them over 40 years. I am surprised by the low score they garner. I will say you don't stay with someone 40 years if they are not performing. I only wish my marriage lasted as long.

Unfair Claim Practices

Unfair Claim Practices – Avoid USAA Landlord/DP-3 Policies. If you are a landlord or property owner, be extremely cautious. USAA handled a clear-cut, single-event tenant vandalism claim with complete bad faith, low-ball estimates, and circular reasoning. After an evicted tenant maliciously damaged my condo, USAA’s supervisor acknowledged in writing that the loss was "intentional." Yet, they proceeded to manipulate policy exclusions to avoid paying:
Low-Ball Partial Settlement: They issued an unsolicited $975 payout by cherry-picking an initial emergency patch quote, completely ignoring a licensed general contractor's $13,734.38 comprehensive repair proposal.
Contradictory Denials: They denied thousands of dollars in structural floor gouges under "wear and tear and lack of maintenance," despite third-party receipts and photos proving the floors were professionally resurfaced with an industry-grade poly coating just 10 months prior.
Denied Loss of Use: They refused to pay mandatory Fair Rental Value, arguing the unit didn't qualify because the unlivable damages (which included vandalized 19th-floor window locks and dislodged plumbing) were items they simply chose not to cover.
Closed File Tactics: They closed the claim while active, documented contractor estimates and life-safety hazards remained completely unaddressed, then attempted to resolve the dispute over unrecorded phone calls while refusing written correspondence. USAA is no longer the military-focused, member-first company it once was. They will use every bureaucratic loophole to leave you stranded with tens of thousands in property damage. This matter is currently under formal investigation with the State Insurance Administration. Save yourself the stress and take your property coverage elsewhere.

Now I realize I'm one person and don't…

Now I realize I'm one person and don't make a lot of money, but this is the worse bank (if you can call it a bank) that I have ever been associated with. First they sent out a flyer to start a checking account
Open it with $25, so I did. I just started a new job, when they set up my direct deposit, I used my new USAA checking account and their routing number. My paycheck was processed and sent to the correct account and routing number. My account doesn't show the deposit, not even pending
My employers records show it was processed to the correct account and routing number. No one at USAA could help me, I first tried called the service center, then drove down to the financial center. I live in rural Colorado, it's an hour and a half drive. No help from USAA. They told me to wait a month and see if it gets posted. I called the people I owe only to and told them to wait a month and see if I get paid, they said PAY ME MY MONEY. So buyer beware, IMHO, stay far away from this bank. They don't have branches, but they do have high end "financial centers", but they don't care about you getting your money. Try a REAL BANK, they have real employees that understand their industry. Again, in my humble opinion, stay away from USAA, you have been warned

They are using AI algorithms and satellite imagery to evaluate your property for insurance price. It’s terribly inaccurate. They tried to raise our rates by 3 k this year. Make sure you go line by line with a human and hold them accountable for inaccuracy.

I was a loyal USAA customer for years

I was a loyal USAA customer for years, and staying with this company turned out to be one of the biggest financial mistakes I've ever made.

I eventually discovered I was paying almost **$300 a month** to insure a very old car. The premium was split into two separate monthly payments, and I never realized how much I was actually paying. Looking back, I feel the billing was confusing and lacked transparency. If the total monthly cost had been clearer, I would have switched insurance companies years ago.

What made the experience even worse was the lack of explanation. When I asked why my premium was so high, I never received a clear answer. As a long-time customer, I expected honesty and transparency, but instead I felt like my concerns didn't matter.

Being loyal to USAA did not benefit me at all. In my experience, loyalty only cost me thousands of dollars. I trusted their reputation and assumed they were treating long-term customers fairly. That trust was misplaced.

The moment I started comparing quotes from other insurance companies, I realized just how overpriced my policy had become. I couldn't believe how much money I had wasted over the years.

I cannot recommend USAA based on my experience. Don't assume they are giving you a competitive rate just because of their name or reputation. Compare your policy every year, read every charge carefully, and don't make the same expensive mistake I did.

I have been a USAA member for 52 years…

I have been a USAA member for 52 years and banking issues have become a problem. Customer service is, at times, inept sending me to the wrong department. Again USAA declined a transfer of funds to an account that I use monthly. Fraud alert text message which I replied to with a “Y”…meaning yes I authorized this. I waited 40 minutes before trying again…and again declined. Replied to the text message with a “Y” again. And again and again. Called USAA, representative said he couldn’t help and transferred me to the dispute unit instead of the fraud unit…after 20 minutes on hold. After 2 more attempts with call back each time I finally talked to the fraud unit and the representative solved the issue. Overall I spent an hour and a half dealing with this nonsense.

Headline: Zero Accountability or Responsiveness on Clear Third-Party Claim

Rating: ⭐ (1/5)

Review:

I am writing this to highlight the severe lack of communication and complete inaction by USAA’s third-party claims department. On July 15, 2026, I was involved in an accident caused entirely by their insured driver, Zachary Steffish. Clear photographic evidence and documentation establishing fault were submitted immediately, yet USAA has stonewalled the process completely.

I have left multiple messages for the adjuster and attempted to push this forward through customer service, only to receive silence and zero progress. Holding off on approving basic property repairs and rental authorization when liability is clear is unacceptable behavior for a major carrier. USAA needs to address this claim immediately.
if i could leave zero stars i would.

USAA totaled my car

USAA totaled my car, a car that was drivable, no overheating issues, just some cosmetic damage, front bumper, left and right fenders. Thats it, they totalled a good car for that. Of that weren't enough the settlement they offered was at least $3000 below fair market value. I went thru the dispute process and 3 times and showed them 9 different cars, same age, similar milage but they refused to change their valuation. This left me nowhere. Their offer was so low that I was unable to purchase even the most base cars, not even close to purchasing a like model and year. So I have nothing. Thank you USAA for proving again that my service meant nothing to you. I was nothing but another stupid Joe dumb enough to pay for their exorbitant payments and when I needed them most, USAA got on their bikes and left me with nothing. I will never be able customer again, and I will tell everyone I know about my experience with you.

Failed to properly credit my pay off on…

Failed to properly credit my pay off on a card. Then they began placing holds on the card - which they clearly stated were due to the area I bought the item. Hold was removed and the next day another hold was placed. Called USAA and a fraud rep. Started asking me questions about my deceased mother, why I changed my name, if I actually had a disability, why I did not use their online system. I began yelling and told the guy off and hung up. The next day I called for payoff balances and was told USAA would not do business with me and was eliminating my line of credit....What? A retaliation for asking these folks to do their job and adhere to their policies? Now, they refuse to give me my balance so I can pay off my accounts and leave this crazy mess.
20 year customer and never paid late for 20 years. Paid in full to zero balances and this is how these folks behave. Move your accounts before this happens to you. It will eventually happen. It is a clear cut abusive action?
