False service history

Went to view a Kia that was advertised with a full service history and 1 owner only to find that the service history raised some pretty serious questions.

The service book was stamped every year under “ADMF Services, Warley Street, Great Warley, CM13 3L8”. Being there every year raised a few concerns but didn’t question it too much as it only had 1 previous owner but then I checked it myself and couldn’t find a garage operating under that name at that address. There are also obvious spelling/address errors on the stamp and no invoices or paperwork to back up the servicing.

I raised this with the dealer and was basically told the car was 100% genuine, that he’d been selling cars for 47 years and had never had a situation like this. He then asked me if I was suggesting the service history had been falsified.

The most ridiculous part? When I questioned him further, he admitted he hadn’t actually checked it himself and said he would now go and check with “his people”.

So I’m sorry, but if you’ve been selling cars for 47 years and claim to have a good reputation and your cars are properly checked, how have you managed to advertise a car with a service history containing a garage that appears impossible to verify, an incorrect-looking address/postcode and spelling mistakes, without checking it?

Either you didn’t check it despite claiming your experience, or you’re not being completely honest about how thoroughly these cars are checked.

Needless to say, I walked away. If I’m spending that sort of money on a car, I want a service history I can actually verify, not “trust me, I’ve been doing this for 47 years”.

Very disappointing and definitely not a dealer I’d be comfortable buying from especially in this day and age when anyone can buy a stamp and stamp it yourself

We are genuinely shocked and deeply disappointed by this review and feel that it gives a very misleading impression of what actually took place.

You did not simply “walk away” from the vehicle because of concerns over its history.

You attended with your stepfather, thoroughly inspected the vehicle inside and out, complimented its excellent condition and were taken on a test drive, with which you appeared very pleased. You explained that the car was slightly above your budget and that you wanted to think about it and speak to your boyfriend/brother, who you said was a Kia mechanic. You then thanked us for our time and left on perfectly amicable terms.

Indeed, later that same day you messaged us: “thanks for today, I really do like the car”. It was only subsequently that you raised concerns about being unable to independently verify details appearing on a historic service stamp.

We took your concerns seriously. However, we strongly object to the subsequent implication that we have acted dishonestly or knowingly offered a vehicle with fabricated history.

This vehicle was subjected to our normal provenance checks, including HPI, together with checks of its recorded mileage and MOT history. Nothing arising from those checks gave us any reason to suspect a problem. The vehicle had one former keeper, approximately 69,000 miles and a new 12-month MOT with no advisories, and was acquired through a trusted trade source with whom we have dealt for approximately 25 years.

It is simply not realistic to suggest that a used-car dealer should independently contact and authenticate every garage responsible for every historic stamp or document accumulated over the lifetime of every vehicle, particularly when the normal provenance and mileage checks reveal nothing to cause concern.

Most importantly, being unable to independently verify the details on a historic service stamp is not evidence that we fabricated it, altered the service history or knowingly misrepresented the vehicle. We categorically reject any such suggestion.

After 47 years in the motor trade, our reputation and integrity mean an enormous amount to us. We therefore find the comment that “anyone can buy a stamp and stamp it yourself”, made in a review questioning our honesty, particularly upsetting and wholly unjustified as an implication against this business.

You were completely entitled to investigate the history further and equally entitled not to proceed with the purchase. However, there is a considerable difference between deciding not to purchase because you could not independently satisfy yourself about a historic stamp and suggesting publicly that you “walked away” from the vehicle because of matters which called our honesty into question.

We have retained our correspondence, which records the sequence of events, and we stand completely behind the manner in which you were treated.

Steer clear & look elsewhere

Update, just got a reply from this trader who’s now claiming I didn’t have any dealings with him. You now get my point. Avoid at all costs….Purchased a Ford Fiesta from this trader and within 6 months experienced starting issues. Took it to a Ford main dealer, got a quote and passed it to UsedCarNetwork who refused to honour the 2 year and what is seen now as a completely worthless guarantee. The Ford dealer also reported that the electrics had been 'tampered with / badly repaired'. After many weeks of arguments back and forth the sole trader decided that he would replace a 'sensor' (at a few pounds cost) to try and 'fob us off' despite the feedback from the Ford main dealer that this wouldn't resolve the issue. We didn't trust the guy so decided it was too great a risk to let him anywhere near the car. We would strongly recommend that you steer clear of this person and look elsewhere.

Absolutely Awful Must Read for anybody considering a purchase

Firstly, The owner of this business is a sole trader, he is breaking the law by not displaying his name on his website. He does this for good reason, although I shall not name him here as it is against the T&C of this site.

However it is a matter of public interest, and I would urge anybody thinking of doing business with this man, that they first google "Loughton car dealer jailed" so they can make an informed decision on whether to proceed. Motor Group was a previous business of his.

I am currently in the process of sueing the proprietor of this business for mis-selling & misrepresenting the warranties he provides. Make sure you ask him the claim limits & servicing conditions as they are punitive and the warranty is self funded and not worth the paper it's written on. They are provided by Lawdata Ltd and a trustdata search will reveal the general consensus of opinion on them.

Stay clear! Ongoing issues since day 1

Stay clear!
We travelled 1.5 hours to this garage as it boasted a 2yr warranty and ignored the few bad reviews...
Big mistake!
We loved the Smax when we saw it and Tony assured us the oil leak we spotted on the floor was just some cleaning fluid. Turns out a week or so after inspection at an independent garage, that it was in fact the shock absorber. He wanted to chuck a spare part on it from a mondeo they had out the back and i inisted we had a new part or we would return it.
We were also fed up with intermittent parking sensors but Tony's mechanic couldnt replicate this issue. A few weeks after that car was overheating and after another 3 hour round trip it was established a pipe had fallen off (fixed by Tony's mechanic). We also reported the onfoing performance issues but this again couldnt be replicated. A few months on we have replaced EGR valve, water pump, cambelt (as good practice to change with pump although this was disputed by Tony), and the thermostat.
Issue of overheating (and now sluggish to start) persists and we are advised by an independent that it is suspected head gasket failure.
Tony went off to get quotes - we chased him up and he just advised us to buy "Super Steele" - our mechanic has advised this would have the potential to cause further damage (implying this would be a bodge job). Tony finally pointed out that our scheme only covers for £100 per claim!!! Absolutely pointless and not worth the paper its written on. I appreciate warranty cover is basic but it covers major works such as this, so whar use is £100 max claim on a job that costs 1k or more to do!!! Shocking!!!

I didnt think it was possible to have had such a bad experience of a company that boasts they are honest and responsibie. You learn alot about a company in how they handle customers and this really is a cowboy approach. We will stick with main dealers in the futute as there are no hidden suprises... May aswell buy private!!!

Excellent Experience Buying a Used Car

Bought my current (Used) car from here. Was impressed with the quality of the car, very clean and tidy, with excellent service history.
Excellent communication with the business throughout the sale. And the after sales support was brilliant - they paid for a number of minor issues that I flagged up within the first week of having the car, without question.
A very happy customer.

Looks good but poor pre sales service and after sales service

Car looked good on the forecourt but the after sales service when dealing with serious faults to the car is dreadful. They sadly try everything to avoid remedying any problems, even though they are obliged to do this for 6 months. A service after we brought the car identified 2 serious faults, and questioned whether the car should have passed its MOT given these and the tread on the tyres. Eventually got this fixed and got a token refund but it was extremely hard work and in their words you “become the enemy after you pay and drive the car away”. Be wary and ensure you get it fully checked before parting with money!
