Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 109 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Travelers frequently encountered unhelpful ground staff, extremely poor customer service responses, and unexpected extra fees added throughout the booking process. Passengers also reported frustrating flight delays, disorganized boarding procedures, and continuous issues regarding misplaced or mishandled luggage. Some reviewers were happy with the exceptional assistance provided by individual cabin crew members who made their stressful journeys much better. A few travelers appreciated surprisingly comfortable journeys, genuinely friendly personnel, and flights that operated very smoothly and closely to schedule. These positive experiences provided a welcome relief for customers navigating otherwise difficult travel situations.

At this point, Virgin Australia is clearly trying very hard to sink to a level below Jetstar. A 6 hour international flight and no complimentary meal nor drink. The selection of "food" & "snacks" is s... See more

Flight from Sydney

Flight from Sydney. Seats were very uncomfortable and female staff on the plane was absolutely atrocious with her crap customer service and sour face. Used to like Virgin, but non stop delays and crap staff that seem angry.

Shit house

Shit house. Haven't been on a plane in the last 10 years that left on time. This time I'm sitting at the terminal because apparently there's bats on the runway meanwhile other planes are coming and going.

A long way from Wonderful

Not very Wonderful at all, asked to swap seat from one near toilets at the rear to a window seat somewhere on flight....paid for upgrade to 10 A which was still available at the time.
10 A however is a seat at the outside edge of the Aircraft but there is no window...so paid extra to sit looking at a section of Cabin plastic...

Avoid Virgin Australia!

Please avoid Virgin Australia at all costs! They have been a complete disappointment. My flight to Queenstown was diverted after taking off from Melbourne for 2.5 hours. Captain announced they had missed the Queenstown landing cutoff by only 4 minutes and could not land after dark, while Christchurch also apparently did not accept the plane either. After all that stressful disruption, check-in the next day was somehow still majorly delayed and disorganised, ground staff could not even locate the 10:50am flight in their system, leaving passengers waiting in line with no clear updates, no explanation and no proper assistance. The flight was then delayed to 11:20am, but the bigger issue is the poor communication, lack of accountability, and complete lack of passenger support. Absolutely no reliability, transparency or basic customer service.

Virgin Australia is genuinely the worst…

Virgin Australia is genuinely the worst airline I have ever had the displeasure of flying with. The check in experience in hellish. A 6 hour plus flight with no meals and 1 measly cup of water. The snack and ‘meal’ options are very limited, not nice, and VERY overpriced. The worst part is how rude every one who works for them is. Over the last 2 weeks I have taken several flights with this airline. Everyone is extremely rude, patronising and straight up lies to you to make their lives easier. I have never hated an airline so much. As a company and individual staff are both terrible. I wouldn’t recommend this company to my worst enemy. I will never fly with them again

Incompetent

Incompetent. Dishonest. Will never fly with these disgusting, rude morons ever again. You get what you pay for which in the case of Virgin is rude and abominable behaviour, no communication as to why flight delayed by several hours which completely destroyed my short vacation. Virgin deserves only opprobrium. They are only interested in gouging their customer for money with zero service.

I am writing to formally complain about…

I am writing to formally complain about the treatment I received as a 16-year-old minor on a Virgin Australia flight
I was traveling with my mother, yet we were assigned seats apart from each other. When I approached the flight attendant to request that I be reseated with my guardian, my request was not only refused but I was told that I would have to pay an additional fee to be seated with my mother.
As a minor, I felt extremely vulnerable being placed between two adult male passengers. It is highly concerning that the cabin crew prioritized charging a fee over the basic safety and well-being of a 16-year-old passenger. Fortunately, the passenger sitting next to my mother recognized the situation and was kind enough to move, which allowed us to sit together—a solution the flight attendant had refused to facilitate me and I hope you fix this issue immidently so other minors don’t have this issue like I did.

Melbourne to Rockhampton paid connecting flight.

Had a connecting flight from Melbourne to Rockhampton, change over in Brisbane. Booked in at Melbourne airport, desk lady was rude, pushy and in a hurry.
She booked our luggage all the way through but refused to give us our boarding pass for the Brisbane to Rockhampton flight, even after we questioned her.
As if that wasn't bad enough we were late taking off in Melbourne and only just made it to our next gate in Brisbane for pur expected flight home to Rockhampton. On arrival at the boarding gate in Brisbane bound for Rockhampton, we were told we had no seats, they are all full and our seats were sold.
We had 5 adults, 1 child and 2 babies. All these flights were booked months ago and seats picked upon booking.
How the fk can an airline sell your seats after being paid for for months but had our luggage on that very flight.
Our luggage had to be taken off that flight and put onto a flight we were put on 5 hours later. So 5 hours in an airport with 2 infants, extremely distressing.
As if that wasn't bad enough they were to useless to take ALL our luggage off and now am missing a very expensive bassinet. No care In the world from anyone at Virgin.
We had appointments booked on our return which we missed and 2 of us had to drive another 3 hours back to our home in Emerald which made our arrival home extremely late after an already early rise that morning.
I have never experienced such incompetence or lack of care and will never ever fly Virgin and I implore you all not to as well.

If i could rate zero I would

If i could rate zero I would. Dodgy airlines with over hours of delays due to "large luggages" only for them not to actually pack those luggages into the plane! Bloody dodgy and shitty airlines. Staff are useless and cant actually do anything. They should really just replace these dumb staff with AI as that would have done better than these stupid incapable people.

Received an email from Virgin Australia advising of Travel Bank credit that didn't exist

Received an email from Virgin Australia stating that I had $1,008 of credit in my travel bank but when I logged in the account balance was nil.

I rang them to complain and the response did not make sense so I wrote to them and the response I received demonstrated that they had not even read my email and it did not address my concern.

Pretty poor customer service.

return flights

We did return flight over 3 weeks Melb-----Coolangatta. I was rather incapacitated at the time and required wheel chair at both ends each time Virgin staff could not have been more helpful in all areas. From ground staff to on flight service, caring was absolutely top class. Virgin will always be my go to from here on. .. Graham and Dianne Bower

Flew Brisbane to Bali

Flew Brisbane to Bali. Packed plane, one toilet for economy. Wouldn't let passengers use the business class toilet and the queue was half way up the aisle, so held on for 4 hours. Snotty attitude of the head hostess was rediculous. Swore 5 years ago I would never fly with them again. Sadly group booked with them, now none of us will EVER fly virgin again. Pay the extra people, this airline is the worst!!!

Con for baggage weight

Do not use this airline unless you have to. We had to throw away our umbrella and send a suitcase via post as they don’t let you combine weight between cases. Only being allowed one bag is ridiculous when you’ve paid for 23kg! Such a waste of money when Jetstar let you take as many bags as you want!!

Another disappointing flight

Another disappointing flight, left Uluru this afternoon to have to sit on a seat with food still on it. No whipping down of tray tables. Getting down to jet Star level....
