It was the worst flight I had ever been on.
I had requested a Windows seat. These are sometimes paid extra for.
I was seated in the last row. The windows seat had a wall. It felt like I was in a box.
The plane was a Fokker and had the old ashtrays sealed in the armrests.
I could not hear anything once the engines started. It was so loud I could not hear safety instructions or announcements over the speaker during the flight. I had a roaring headache from the screaming engines.
The toilet, one meter away stank of people's businesses everything the door was opened and lingered.
It was the worst flight I had ever been on.

35 Minute delay causing me to miss the booked shuttle bus on arrival. They made us sit and wait in the plane, no explanation for the delay was given. Never again Virgin!
Virgin staff really look after disabled travelers. Thank you.
Virgin staff are thoughtful, attentive, experienced.
Never again!! Only gave them one star because…
Only gave them one star because couldn’t give them zero stars!
I bought 4 tickets 6 months ago and paid extra to travel early to Hamilton Island fro Brisbane on a four day holiday but Two weeks before the flight they cancelled it and offered me a later flight (4 Hours later) or my money back All the flights had gone up because of booking now last minute so had no choice but to take the later flight only to find on the day of the flight that it was put back a further 90 minutes so by the time we arrived on Hamilton Island we had lost nearly 6 hours of our day!!!!
Also be very careful of booking on extra luggage we paid extra for Two checked in bags $120 only to find out on our return this was only one way so because we were now at the airport we had to pay a further $240 to get the cases back to Brisbane! Absolutely a rip off would not recommend Virgin to anyone.
We fly 2 to 5 times a year and will never go with them again we didn’t even get an apology for the first cancellation or offered the money difference we paid for the early flight.
I can’t believe Virgin Australia failed us twice
I can’t believe VA involuntary changed my flight to three days earlier while I was in a foreign country, Without reason.
I panicked in a foreign country to find phone to reach australia, only to be told different reasons for my original flight cancellation! supervisor told me it wasn’t their fault, blamed on partner airline (which I found out wasn’t true)
The last straw was this “you’re the one who needed help here” from the supervisor - what kind of standard is that?
The worst was, line got cut off (I predicted) while she put me on hold to “help me”, and never followed up - never! I had to find alternatives myself!!
Guessed what - it happened again… to
My husband’s flight postponing his confirmed flight three days later!
NEVER virgin australia AGAIN!!!
Impossible to opt out of policies - greedy website design
I will rate anyone who automatically signs me up for newsletters upon purchasing their product with 1 star. On top of this, to unsubscribe from the newsletter, they force you to accept their cookie and privacy policy, without the option to opt out. I'm unsure, but I recall that being illegal.
Additionally, their website is put together so stupidly, that after being forced to accept the cookie / privacy policy, they will direct you to the frontpage, instead of the unsubscribe page that I had requested.
I have not even gotten on my flight yet and I am dreading to fly with Virgin Australia.
Terrible policies on luggage
Terrible policies on luggage. We travelled to Bali with four 23 kg allocation. We condensed our luggage to 1 large suitcase at 32 kg and they charged us $140! We were 48kg UNDER our overall allocation, however they don't "pool" luggage allowance like other airlines. They technically owe us money for being under by so much! Not customer centric at all.
Gate advise. Sloppy or intentional
Virgin Australia Domestic Brisbane
We were at the gate 40 minutes prior to departure, the electronic sign said NEXT not boarding NOW, there was the confusion of being 2 flights at one gate so the lounge was half full, no attempt was made to call us on the intercom or did we even here the flight number was boarding now at the gate. I watched the sign change from NEXT to DEPARTED.
So Virgin Australia are ok with that level of customer service? Maybe this sloppy information is intentional so Virgin Australia can net more $ through passengers having to buy another ticket. Their apology is negligible to say the least as by not refunding my extra flight to Cairns. Virgin Australia are not professional and responsible for their customers at their gate.
My family and I (9 of us) flew Adelaide…
My family and I (9 of us) flew Adelaide to Denpasar. Firstly Virgin cancelled the direct flight and didn’t offer a refund. We then had to fly via Melbourne with a 2 hour layover. They ran out of most of the food and we ended up eating noodles that you could buy for $2 in Cole’s. No inflight entertainment for the kids.
The return flight was worse ! 1.5 hours late leaving Denpasar so we missed our connecting flight from Melbourne and no more flights that day. Fortunately they booked us on a Qantas flight. Wow ! What a difference. Inflight entertainment, free drinks and a nice sandwich. If Virgin think they are a serious competitor to Qantas, they’re dreaming… bob
Virgin choosing profits over people
Virgin put an expiry on their travel credits, which has resulted in many customers including myself being out of pocket (unlike Qantas/Jetstar who removed the expiry date).
For this reason, I will be actively avoiding flying Virgin wherever possible.
Ultimately, it's a business/judgement call that Virgin are entitled to make, and it seems that they've decided that the dollar value of the credits they're not giving back to customers is greater than the value of any brand damage suffered. Well, I'm going to make sure that in my personal case, the value lost due to the brand damage far exceeds the couple of hundred dollars credit they're saving.

Delayed Bag....in app they have "your bag is with us"....no message to alert me of this, just waste my time waiting when Virgin knew it wasn't coming. No update if on next flight or request where I am staying to deliver it. Pointed to QR Code at checkin after searching for someone to help and get info from. Get better service from a 2 man band.
WATER AND FOOD ARE NECESSITIES!!
Flights from Brisbane to Denpasar and return arre dreadful. On the Brisbane to Denpasar we purchased food to take on the flight. In saying that they ran out of food. On the return, we didn’t have any food supplies and they ran out of food and water was limited as they were running out. Given our flight was over a dinner time I.e. 3.30pm to 11.20pm it was so disappointing that they did not have sufficient food on board to cater to their customers. Of course food is for purchase, a given, but hey, there wasn’t any available.
Our son was on the same flight two days later and his experience was even worse then ours.
Extortionate company
Extortionate company. Just started a new job in kalgoorlie, had 2 bags to check in weighing total less than 23kg. Had asked for extra bag, like i usually do with every other airline i've dine fifo with. They tried to charge me $170 after another person at another counter told me i could bring an extra one free of charge!!! Qantas, alliance, rex, no other compay has ever done this to me in the 6 years i've been doing fifo!! Just because i work fifo doesn't mean i'm a millionaire, cost of living is nuts, im on the verge of selling my home because mortgage is through the roof, finally get a jew job after being out of work for a couple months, and i get this!!! Avoid virgin at all costs if possible. Think next time i'll drive to kalgoorlie!!!! Virgin stinks!!!!
Virgin does not like to assist the disabled or elderly
My mother travelled from the Gold Coast to Canberra. She's 92 years old and has mobility issues. She has done this flight every year with either Virgin or Qantas. I arranged wheelchair assistance for her, like I do every flight. Her assistance at Gold Coast was fine however In Canberra she was met by the ground staff at the door of the plane with a wheelchair. She was assisted to the boarding gate where she was told that they couldn't take her any further - she would have to make her own way. She was meant be assisted to the baggage area where she was being met. Because they refused to assist further my mobility challenged 92 year old mother had to drag her bag, her walking sticks and literally stagger to the baggage area without any assistance whatsoever. Obviously, Virgin are not keen to assist the elderly or disabled. No compassion, no empathy at all. Absolutely appalling service if I could give you a zero I would
Wonderful experience
Wow I don’t understand all the bad reviews for this company! My wife and I flew from Uluru to Melbourne earlier today and everything was awesome. Attentive stewardesses, clean seats, and we absolutely adored the purple lighting. They gave you complementary coffee/tea. Staff made many subsequent trips offering cups and free water as well. Jetstar would never dream of giving you anything for free! These guys are 1000 times better. Would fly with them again in an instant.
Unacceptable
Unacceptable. I was suppose to go on a cruise ship to Sydney from Melbourne airport flying with virgin Australia. My flight got canceled due to my sister who is disabled and the crew wasn’t helpful whatsoever, damaged my sisters wheelchair not even taking off, disgusting and because the chair was “too big” had plenty of notice from flight centre while planning this trip, waited for roughly an hour just for the crew making me and my family leave the aircraft! Good waste of money. I highly recommend NOT ever going with virgin they are not helpful and certainly don’t care. (Date of experience isn’t accurate, ignore the date)
What a dismal airline
What a dismal airline. They emailed one hour before my flight that it had been cancelled. It was around 8pm and I was already on the airport bus. When I arrived they offered me a flight the NEXT morning! What am I supposed to do - sleep at the airport? Such crap customer service. On top of that, they had no customer service reps and I was asked to resolve it over the phone. I put in an official complaint and guess what - no reply.
I needed to change a flight
I needed to change a flight. I was on the phone with a Virgin employee for over 30min trying to do this. It was the most unhelpful experience i think i have ever been through. I was just fed blatent misinformation. When i fact checked her (by getting on the internet and searching for virgin flights myself) she did not apologise or give me any reason as to why she was lying to me.
This company are dirty scoundrels.
Please can our government support more carriers to exist so that Virgin is forced to pull their socks up.
velocity is nothing but a Ponzi scheme
The Velocity point program used to be amazing, but now it is nothing but a Ponzi scheme. When you try to use your points to book a flight, you will NEVER find an available flight. They just use the alure of collecting points to get you to sign up with their partners, such as credit card companies or Coles, so they can rope you in with Flybuys that you can convert to Velocity points. I have reported Virgin to the ombudsman and ACCC.

I was pleasantly surprised with my Perth - Melbourne flight. I was successful in a bid for business class and although it was a splurge I thought the experience was much better than I anticipated. I did miss a few things that you get on international business class but the cabin was clean, staff extremely pleasant and accommodating. The food was adequate and drinks were available. The ground staff were very helpful and I had no rudeness just pleasant help. Work needs to go into their call centre staff, who do their best but are hard to understand and incredibly slow at getting things done. I am travelling in economy class next and we review at a later date.
