I felt like I was in the twilight zone
I felt like I was in the twilight zone.
The first time I went here a year and a half ago, I was fitted for reading glasses and when they came in, I had to take them back. I couldn't see a thing. The prescription was re-done and a couple weeks later, things were fine. There was a $35.00 out of pocket for something the insurance didn't cover, which I was not told about beforehand and that's not good practice. The most recent time I went 11/25/25, I have the same insurance, so I expected the same experience, basically. That didn't happen. After my exam I went to pick out frames. After I did that, I was tallied up a $400.00 bill for lenses. I was told that my frames were covered, but not my lenses. I didn't pay $400.00 for lenses last time. That wasn't happening for this Sr. on SS. I was completely confused. There was no further explanation. I said that I apparently wasted my time and gas. Why would I need to know the results of an eye exam that I can't do anything about regarding $400.00 lenses? I don't go to the grocery store if I can't buy groceries. As I'm leaving, I'm told that there will be a separate fee of $45.00 because the Dr. said "There are no issues now, but in the future you may have cataracts." Durrr...so will a million other seniors. Due to the word cataract being brought up, I now owe $45.00 out of pocket. BS. Red Flag. Scam. I walked out with no hopes of new glasses and wondering why the h*ll I went there in the first place. Nothing made sense. This ate at me for a week or so. I called my insurance co. and suddenly things became very clear. My eye exam was included in my yearly plan and so were my lenses. I have $400.00 for frames and if there are any other fees, like "$45.00 for saying cataract" fees, they are also included and as long as I don't go over $400.00 on the frame allowance, it is all covered.
Well, I was so excited to call them and explain how it works. They very flatly and coldly told me that "yes, plain old regular lenses are covered" and I could come back and pick out frames and have them made. Nobody bothered to tell me that when I was there??!! I left with nothing but a $45.00 out of pocket bill for the "cataract" that I don't have, fee. WTH! What is going on here? When I informed them that I did indeed know the deal here and the $45.00 "cataract" fee is included in my yearly visit, especially since I didn't use any of the $400.00 frame allowance. I believe the $45.00 "cataract" fee is a scam. I believe the insurance co. would not cover some stupid, ripoff charge for saying "cataract". This place thinks seniors are stupid push-overs or they just try to rip everyone off in general. Anyway, too sketchy for me. I made it clear that I won't be back. I don't even want to look at these shysters again. Makes me wonder about the $35.00 out of pocket fee I paid last time. I mean, why wouldn't it, after this shady experience.
