Avoid this to all costs

Avoid this to all costs. They constantly bombarded me with job offers to apply but they don't teach you how to do this work. I speak many different languages so would be so beneficial to both - but they don't care about finding good workers for them. Bad reviews speaking for themselves.

Don't make me laugh

Don't make me laugh. Took voiceover classes and paid handsomely for course as well as professional demo. I was a Voices premium member since 2016. I only cancelled for one year because my full-time corporate job left me little time for auditions. I retired over two years ago and signed up again. Their motto is to pay them $499 a year just to have the privilege of viewing available jobs--many of which clients decide and complete without even listening to you. Whatever you quote gets decreased with brokerage fees before you are even short-listed! I was up for renewal recently. I was offered just $100 off for $399. Big deal. It didn't matter I had been a long-standing member. I asked for 50% off and was declined. So much for loyalty, so much for damage control, and so much for good customer service to maintain clients. The one job (after hundreds of auditions) where I was awarded chose a male voice over mine. I netted $80 for a client budget of $100--Voices had to clip my $20 on top of the ridiculous premium membership yearly fee- and I only received one great review from the ad agency and no recognition for the online ad. Very sad and unfair for struggling voice actors to be treated this way. Don't walk, run from Voices. Such a money grab and scam.

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We’re sorry to hear that this is your assessment of Voices.

As you know, our premium membership, which does come with a cost, provides daily job opportunities that match a talent’s profile and skill set, sent to them directly.

The premium membership fee also ensures that the premium talent on Voices are at the professional skill level required to meet the needs of clients, which helps to ensure jobs are hired and to ensure that clients continue to come back to Voices to post more jobs.

As a business, we do charge a 20% platform fee to talent (calculated against their client-facing quote) and a 4% or 6% processing fee to clients depending on the client’s payment method (calculated against their job’s total cost pre-tax). These fees are applied when a talent is hired for a job.

Talent are able to adjust their quote when responding to jobs to see what their take-home earnings would be if hired for that job, and we show right there, based on the talent quote, the amount that the client will pay. We also show in this same spot what the platform fee would amount to, so that the talent has all the information.

Our goal is to connect clients with the best talent, and talent with the best job opportunities to make any fees worthwhile. We do have many talent members making a successful full-time living on Voices.

It’s true that sometimes clients do not listen to all the auditions that have been submitted for a job, particularly if a job has a very short turnaround time and they find the talent they’re looking for quickly. We know it can be discouraging when this happens. We encourage talent to recognize this as part of the overall auditioning process and to audition as often and as quickly as possible for opportunities.

Our talent success specialist reached out to you in October to let you know about our Black Friday sale in November and an offer of the premium membership at a reduced price.

We wish you all the best and hope that you continue in your voice over journey.

Great experience, within budget, and great result.

Voices was very easy to use. Lots of options for voice over work, a good way to save your favorites and send them to a client "vote" on, and an easy way to communicate with the actor, upload/download files, and send payment. The only thing I sometimes struggled with was the following:
- When you save your favorites, it would have been nice to be able to click on the person's name and go right to that person's profile from there.
- Sometimes it was confusing how to get back to project to send messages to the actor.
These are mostly software UX issues that I figured out, however it could have been a little more intuitive. Overall, great experience and we found a professional voice over actor that fit our clients needs.

Is it a rip off? Read on

I’ve been a member of voice.com for a little while and have been working in the Voice over industry for 45 years in four different countries. All I get is lots of jobs being sent to my inbox for very little money and no acceptances. It seems a bit of a scam to ask for £300 memberships And then just have a compute Send you out jobs 24 hours a day seven days a week that don’t lead anywhere. It’s better to pay extra to be with an agent to actually get work otherwise all you’re doing is recording spots for voices.com, and having no idea whether they using them or not , these are my thoughts, and I’ve seen long explanations of how good voices.com is, but all my friends in the industry have had no luck on this platform so just thought you’d like to know. Hang onto your money and go with a company that checks you out 1st to make sure you have what it takes not like voices who will take anybody or actually take their money …I’m still checking them out still providing some auditions but I am making sure there’s a tone in all of them so they can’t be used. I’ll report back in a few more weeks

Hi Rob,

Thank you for sharing your feedback. Even for those who have been in the voice over industry, it can take some time to be successful on Voices.

An essential part of being connected to the best job opportunities for your skills is filling out your profile completely and recording and uploading quality demos. Tagging your demos appropriately helps our matching system connect you with the right opportunities. Auditioning quickly, regularly, and for jobs you can do well is also important.

We also offer resources on the website and webinars to provide tips on auditioning and how to find success on Voices. Make sure to check out our Help and Resources pages for tips on creating quality demos, responding to jobs, and more. Our Support team is also always happy to help if you have questions or need help with your profile.

We encourage talent to diversify their income streams and offer Voices as one tool—there will be those who find it’s all they need and those who wish to use Voices in addition to other platforms or other opportunities they seek out on their own. Everything comes with a cost of money or time.

We’d love to speak to you one-on-one to see what we can do to improve your experience. If that is of interest to you, please reach out to talent@voices.com and Evan Wiebe would be pleased to chat with you and look at the types of jobs you’re seeing to ensure everything is operating as it should be.

We hope this helps! Wishing you all the best in your continuing voice over journey.

Ripoff

Charging for the privilege of applying for jobs is a bad system that benefits them and not the artists. They get paid whether you get any work or not. Try unsubscribing from their bombardment of promotional emials and you'll find the unsubscribe link is a dummy link. Avoid. There are much better agencies than this scam.

Hi there,

We’re sorry to hear that this is your assessment of Voices. Based on the information you provided, it doesn’t appear that you’re a current member, but perhaps you’re using other information on the platform. Without an active membership and active auditioning, it may be difficult to fully appreciate the benefits of Voices.

Our premium membership, which does come with a cost, provides daily job opportunities that match a talent’s profile and skill set, sent to them directly. Talent on our platform find a great deal of value in what we provide and find this to be a highly efficient way to book work. The membership fee also ensures that the premium talent on Voices are at the professional level required to meet the needs of clients.

We’re not sure which promotional emails you’re referring to, but no, our unsubscribe link is not a dummy link. If it isn’t working or hasn’t worked for you, there may be a technical issue going on, and we’ll certainly look into it with our team. For our members, we do provide product updates and inform our talent when something on the platform is changing. Very occasionally we have operational emails when we need talent to take an action of some kind or opt-in to something like terms of service changes. Outside of these rare operational emails, unsubscribing is always available.

We encourage talent to diversify their income streams and offer Voices as one tool—there will be those who find it’s all they need and those who wish to use Voices in addition to other platforms or other opportunities they seek out on their own. Everything comes with a cost of money or time.

We operate on a model of shared success. It doesn’t benefit our talent members or us as a company or our clients if talent come to the platform and aren’t able to book work. Our goal is to connect clients with the best talent, and talent with the best job opportunities. We do have many talent members making a very successful full-time living on Voices.

We wish you all the best in your voice over career.

Do your research!

I was an early adopter of the site when they first came on the scene in 2005, but deleted my profile after a couple years due to poor job quality, low budgets and inability to see how many auditions had already been received and when. I reviewed the site again last fall and my concerns were only heightened. They take money from you and the client, plus they handle all the invoicing. So you can never really be sure how much money the client is paying and what share you're actually receiving. Clients would be advised to seek out and hire talent directly. This gives more financial and creative control to the client and maximum funding to the talent where it belongs.

Hello and thank you for your feedback.

We’re sorry to hear that you’re no longer a Voices member. We’ve continued to make major improvements to the platform since you were last part of Voices, and it might be difficult to fully experience those without a membership.

As a business, we do charge a 20% platform fee to talent (calculated against their client-facing quote) and a 3% or 5% processing fee to clients depending on the client’s payment method (calculated against their job’s total cost pre-tax).

We make the platform fee clear to talent when they are responding to jobs or selling their projects, and the processing fee clear to clients when they are hiring talent.

Talent are able to adjust their quote when responding to jobs to see what their take-home earnings would be, and we show right there, based on the talent quote, the amount that the client will pay. We also show in this same spot what the platform fee would amount to, so that the talent has all the information.

We encourage talent to always quote what they feel is fair for the work involved. Our goal is to provide the highest possible value to both our clients and our talent to make the fees worthwhile. That being said, we continue to look at pricing and the ways we can improve this element of the customer experience.

The Job Agreement reflects the total amount the client will pay, as well as details about the job, and this agreement is signed off on by both parties before the talent begins work. This is a contract and it protects both the client and the talent.

Payments are then held in SurePay until the talent completes the work, and then payment is released to the talent. Talent are pleased to have this taken care of for them, so they can focus on auditioning and booking jobs, and clients have ease of billing and payments.

We encourage talent to diversify their income streams and offer Voices as one tool—there will be those who find it’s all they need and those who wish to use Voices in addition to other platforms or other opportunities they seek out on their own. Everything comes with a cost of money or time.

Our goal is to connect clients with the best talent, and talent with the best job opportunities. Reviews and feedback from our customers tell us we’re doing this well.

Thanks again for reaching out and sharing your thoughts. We wish you all the best in your voice over career.

Stay away, get out, run for your professional life.

If you have any respect for creative talents, or respect for yourself as a creative talent, then stay away from this platform. $499 a year just for the pleasure of auditioning for voice over jobs for a percentage of an unknown amount that the client (who you can't communicate with) has paid. Plus skimming another 20% of the job fee on top of that AND making the client pay for the transfer fees.
You'd think making thousands a year just from membership fees alone would be enough that they could happily step back and allow the artists to communicate with their clients about fees and project requirements, y'know, like actual professionals?
My account is now deleted and I hope many other artists do the same.

Hi Andy,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. We are always looking for ways to improve the customer experience on Voices, and we take feedback seriously.

A few points of clarification. Our free guest membership gives talent the opportunity to build up their profile, add demos/portfolio samples, and be privately invited to jobs.

We also encourage talent to always quote what they feel is fair for the work involved. Our goal is to provide the highest possible value to both our clients and our talent to make this platform fee worthwhile. That being said, we continue to look at pricing and the ways we could improve this element of the customer experience.

Our platform also provides an easy way for clients and talent to communicate directly with one another about jobs posted on Voices, fees, and project requirements, and for the protection of both parties, we ask that communication stay on the Voices platform. Clients do have to message talent first to open the lines of communication, and this is to ensure that clients are not overwhelmed with messages from talent while they are still evaluating responses to their job.

We appreciate your feedback and wish you the best of luck in the future.

Stay far far away from Voices.com

Voices is not a scam website. There are some very good talents on their platform. A lot of these talents are also on Voice123 and many other pay to play sites.

It's important to understand, if you're a client, that the voice actor is getting screwed by them. Daily. They charge an absurd 20% in what they laughably call "platform fees", and they take it out of the voice actor's pocket. In addition to making the voice talent pay 500.00 a year for a membership.

No one except Voices is making money. The same auditions go out to multiple sites. Voices will ensure that THEY and THEY alone make the biggest percentage - and they do the least work.

A VO is between a client and a talent. Voices should stay out the way. I'll continue booking actors thru agencies - like in the real world. Voices is only out for itself. Oh - and they actually have the temerity to want to charge CLIENTS a membership as well.

Guys... you're bad news and actors despise you. What's great is that clients do too now and we're on to your disreputable business practices.

Voices was described to me as a cult mentality. Punishing its talent if they don't follow the "rules" to the letter. They don't even let the talent communicate with the clients like everyone else in the universe does. Email or phone. They keep it all contained.

Really awful business model. And of course actors are stupid enough to fall for it.

Shame on all of you.

Now... whip up that cult response and tell me how wrong I am. You can't help yourself, I know.
