The booking process was frequently criticized for being problematic, and many felt that the pricing was too high for the quality of service received. On flight WS3533...

On flight WS3533, YBR - YYC, 14 Jan 2026, I had an oversized, fragile bag clearly marked. Upon arriving in YYC, I discovered the bag was thrown on the carousel, instead of being taken to the fragile/oversize section for baggage claim, and the result was ~$262.00 CDN of item damage to its contents, plus additional losses for travel and time lost to conduct repairs. Westjet has no policy for accountability when their own baggage handlers improperly handle baggage, as they only cover any damage to the baggage itself, and rejected my attempt to submit a claim. This is both silly, and inexcusable IMO.

Never again

Never again! That's all I have to say about using this circus act to fly. Constant cancelations, they make up fake reasons so they don't have to pay you etc. Do NOT use this company anymore they just don't care.

Absolutely terrible experience. Our flight got cancelled twice and no good customer service at all. Just people that don’t care about helping you, just in it to get paid. West jets whole system needs improving. What kind of system doesn’t even notify you about your new flight that they cancelled. Highly recommend you don’t use west jet!

Last 2 flights I’ve been on the seats don’t recline. That’s something you should really let people know about. I can not sleep in an upright position. Obviously that’s fine yet would have booked with another airline if I had known.

I don’t know where to start .

I don’t know where to start .. the staff on the 7 hour flight were nice for a pleasant change other than that what an absolute disgraceful company WestJet has turned into . The seats are EXTREMELY CRAMPED, putting MY LIFE and the FELLOW PASSENGERS LIVES at RISK should there be an emergency there is NO WAY EVERY passenger could get off the plane safely or worse being KILLED all for WestJet to save a dollar even though we are paying more now for flights, baggage and seats. It makes me wonder what next now on a 7 hour flight you get one cookie before there were two in a pack I’d hate to think how many pretzels they cut down too maybe 5 in a bag if you’re lucky.
I remember in 1996 when WestJet came out and they tried all ways to get your business having entertaining staff, seats that a 5’ 4” 150 pound person could fit in, without the risk of getting DEEP BONE THROMBOSIS a real threat to every human being travelling NOW!! They even used to give basic necessities to survive a flight like food. But soon we’ll be paying for non alcoholic beverages and to use the bathroom. I bet though if everyone decided to not fly anymore only out of necessity (job or emergency with family) West Jet and other airlines would once again STEP UP and put their passengers lives and comfort first. Travelling used to be enjoyable now it is plain DANGEROUS.
The only people left happy to fly with airlines are the flight sock companies as they’ll be making money now for people getting deep bone thrombosis.
I don’t know how parents change babies diapers or how anyone over 5 feet and weighing anything 130 pounds can be comfortable on a flight anymore. Simply put they aren’t .
I will finish by saying this isn’t ONLY WestJet but every other airline out there. I can’t believe how AIRLINES endanger lives now.

Bad Customer Service @ YVR. Conflicting Fare Policies

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO FLY WITH THIS DETERIORATING AIRLINE.

Late review of a bad WestJet customer service incident that occured on April 25, 2025. I was boarding a Westjet flight from Vancouver to Toronto and I have never been humailated by a company as how WestJet made me feel.

I had the same carry on luggage and backpack on my Westjet flight from Toronto to Vancouver. No issues boarding the flight with these two items.

Upon the return flight back to Toronto, I was directed to zone 5 and stood alone until all the other passengers boarded. I was not allowed to board until my backpack was slimmed down to fit their allowed capacity.

It was the same bag that I boarded with in Toronto and had no issues. The lady at the Vancouver gate was so rude and unpleasant as she strictly upheld Westjet new fare policy. In time of despair, I had to quickly leave some valuable possesions behind at the airport or else not board the plane. There was no other resolution that was offered. Leave stuff behind or else not board the plane.

Westjet put me through a lot of unnecessary stress and I will never fly with Westjet again. I hate this company so much.

Please fly with Air Canada if you want to be treated as a human.

We had Westjet vacation to riveria maya…

We had Westjet vacation to riveria maya in dec. The company they contract to provide transportation to resorts had their main computer down for two hours. Total chaos. We stood in the heat and humidity for almost two hours before we were put on a van. No Westjet representatives anywhere. We didn’t know nexustours was our transportation. No westjet representatives at hotel either. We upgraded our seats at the cost of550$ for the legroom. Told by a very snotty flight attendant I wasn’t to use the bathroom at the front of the plane. My husband was allowed, maybe I wasn’t because i am first nations🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️. So the 9 people in “first class” use one bathroom and the rest of the 140 or so people use two bathrooms at the other end of the plane. Aisles get so narrow towards the back you almost have to walk sideways. Plus another 150.$ for check baggage. I really hope to never fly westjet again. They truly nickel and dime you to death. Huge decline in my opinion

Don’t trust them!

Our easyJet flight from Halifax to Edinburgh turned back two hours from landing in Edinburgh, delaying us by 24 hours and leaving us stranded at the airport without support and contrary to travel regulations. Our claim for expenses was turned down as was our claim for compensation as described in the air transport regs. They claim that the reason was maintainable and safety - this seems unlikely since our destination was considerably nearer than Halifax. You can make a claim to the Canadian Transportation Authority, who are plainly a national joke since the level of complaints against them is greater than the airlines and increasing yearly. To be fair to Westjet, the complaints process applies to all airlines encouraging all to continue behaving badly with consumers. Just don’t expect them to live up to their public standards!

Worst airline I've experienced

21 hour delay and forced to sleep in the airport. Held hostage. No water and no food provided until 8am. Originally departing at 9pm we got delay notifications 7 times until we got through customs and then they just abruptly canceled the flight. This saved them money by not providing overnight accommodation and torturing women, children, babies, and families with no beds. Food. Or water. The stores in the airport took cash only. No credit. Everyone was scared. Some were fighting, pushing, screaming, and everyone suffered tremendously with no sleep. They took us to hotels in the most stressful and unorganized way where we maybe got 2 hours sleep if lucky. Do not use this airline unless you can handle situations like this after paying them over $4000 CAD for 2 adults and one child. Horrific.

The absolute worst airline in Canada

The absolute worst airline in Canada! I will never fly with them again! They threw away a $100 vape because they didn’t want it on the plane. It wasn’t put together or being used and it was in a travel ziplock baggie but they still smiled at me as they threw it away! They are pathetic and useless!

Likely the biggest fraud in the industry! On Xmas day we recieved an email (Unsolicited), about the great after xmas sale they were having. My daughter has been waiting to go away, They advertised an all inclusive with (Taxes and fees incl), Turns out that was a lie. When we got our Visa notification , taxes and fees were added to our bill. After 4 days of trying to get someone on the phone, we were told that the ad on their site was just an "estimation"of the cost not the price. Stay away if all possible, they are crooks and will go bankrupt shortly..

Be careful of resort credits

Overall, this was a disappointing experience. The resort credit promotion was unclear at check-in, and the applicable coupons were not proactively provided, which limited our ability to use them during our stay. A USD $50 credit was later discussed, but it required agreeing to additional terms that we were not comfortable with, so we declined. This created a gap between expectations set at booking and the on-site experience. Based on this experience, we would carefully consider our options before booking a WestJet Vacation in the future.
