5 Star Service

From my telephone call, to the receipt of my camera, which arrived safely the next day, I received an excellent service.

Five stars is not enough for the two…

Five stars is not enough for the two helpful guys at the Burnley store. I went in to get my Nikon camera repaired and the kind and very knowledgeable staff fixed the problem without a cost! I m extremely greatful for their help and friendly customer service I received. Definitely a store I recommend to others because they really are the camera experts. Thanks so much for making my day such a good one😊

Prices were fair…..

Prices were fair and availability of the items I wanted (colour 35mm film) clinched it for me. Items were very promptly despatched having been packaged well and delivered by DPD. Will use again.

I bought Nikkor Z 50mm f1.2 s

I bought Nikkor Z 50mm f1.2 s. The lens was faulty (loud motor noise when I used manual focus and focus breathing). I return this lens after 1 month, the lens was in immaculate condition no any signs of using, absolutely like new. I was told to wait what Nikon will say. Almost 3 weeks passed and I'm still waiting. I bought this lens for commercial and already lost 2 weddings. Do not recommend to buy anything from Wilkinson cameras.

Updates.

I was told that my lens fixed and I'll get it in next few weeks. So I don't want refurbished lens, I payed for new lens and it was manufacturing failure. If I used this lens 3,4,5 or 6 months or this faulty was because of me no problem, but I kept this lens at home and used it twice (just took 3 or 4 photos ), I repeat this lens doesn't have any signs of using. If I wanted refurbished lens I could buy it but I payed over £2000 for new lens. So I want new lens which I payed (non refurbished). I hope Wilkinson cameras think about their costumers and make right decision.

Update

I bought this lens 06.05.2022 and received this lens 10.05.2022 at 14:15 pm. I contacted with you about issues with this lens 15.06.2022(after 1 month and 5 days) and returned it to the store 16.06.2022. I'm sure this lens had this issues when you sold it to me the reason why I didn't find it earlier because I didn't check the manual focus. You already know that it was manufacturing failure. I'm not asking you to refund my money, I just want the new lens. I don't want to use the refurbished lens for £2200.

Update

Yes, I bought the new lens 50 mm f1.8 , because you sold me the failure lens for £2200 and I need this focal lens for my job. And I asked you to swap this refurbished lens to 24-70 f2.8 because these two lens have the same price. It's not a problem if you don't want to swap it, just give me the new lens. As I said earlier this lens had these issues ( loud motor noise and focus breathing) since I received it. The reason why I didn't find these issues earlier because I used this lens twice (for a few shots in autofocus mode) and these issues appear after using manual focus.

I hope this situation helps people to understand how is your service works. If you want to buy anything from Wilkinson cameras be ready to get it faulty (like my experience lens for £2200). As for me it was last purchase in your shop and I will never buy anything from you and never recommend your shop!

Hi Magomed,

We’re sorry your lens appears to have developed a fault. Our records show that you took this lens into the Burnley store and they contacted you as soon as they received confirmation from Nikon that the lens had been received and booked in by them.

As they stated in their email to you, you will be contacted as soon as there is an update. Unfortunately we cannot account for delays with Nikon. We have and will continue to do everything we can for you.

It may be worth speaking to your equipment insurer to see if they will cover any lens hire costs you may incur whilst this lens is away for repair.

Please don’t forget that professional photographers can apply for priority servicing when they are members of Nikon Professional Services (NPS). More details can be found here: https://nps.nikon.co.uk/about/benefits

We would ask that given the delays are beyond our control that you would consider changing your review as it’s not a true reflection of our service.

The Burnley store will be in touch as soon as there is an update for you.

Regards,
Alex | Wilkinson Cameras

UPDATE in response to your amends:
As your lens developed the fault after 30 days, it is standard practice to send this to the manufacturer to be assessed to repair. It may be that Nikon deem it fit to replace it instead, but it would depend on the fault.

This is in line with your rights as a consumer and ours as a retailer, as outlined in the Consumer Rights Act.

I hope this helps to clear up why it was sent to Nikon for assessment, rather than being replaced.

Regards,
Alex

UPDATE 2:
Hi Magomed,

As you were over 30 days, we have chosen to send this for repair, as we are entitled to do under consumer law.

I’ve now seen further email communication from you where your story gets somewhat conflicting. “Also I already bought Nikon 50mm f1.8 and I don't need 1.2 anymore. So I will be so happy if you keep this Nikon 50 mm 1.2 and give me Nikkon 24-70 f2.8.”

It seems perhaps you have changed your mind about the 50mm F1.2 lens, but unfortunately we would not accept this for a straight exchange. We can offer a generous part-exchange price in light of the experience you have had with it needing a repair.

As per our Burnley store’s email to you last night; your lens has been repaired and will be back with us soon. As soon as it is ready for collection you will be contacted.

Regards,
Alex | Wilkinson Cameras

UPDATE 3:
I'm afraid you are not able to demand a replacement lens. We have the right to send this for repair, which is what we have chosen to do.

Don't forget to look into NPS so that if any of your Nikon equipment was to develop a fault in future you may be able to get a speedier turn around!

As per our previous reply, your lens has been repaired and will be returned to you shortly - we haven't received it back from Nikon yet, but once we do you will be contacted.

Regards,
Alex

Warranty = you still have to spend a lot of £ within the warranty period.

I gotten 1 new lens and 1 used lens from Wilkinson Cameras about 6 weeks ago. Seeing as I bought them to use alongside my newly purchased first ever camera, I have no knowledge on what to look out for. After using the used lens for about 4 weeks, I then started using the new lens and was then slowly starting to realise that the focus ring of the used lens sounds scratchy. Not audibly loud, just when put close to one's ear.

As it's past 14 days returns period, Wilkinson offered only solutions that would cost me monies to look at it, etc with any postage for item to be sent, returned, etc to be paid by myself.

I was under the impression that buying a used lens at a higher price than what the other owners are selling, is worth it for me. Reason: seeing that on their used products' pages on their website, that there's 6 months' warranty or so for peace of mind.

They have offered me to some refund via an e-voucher for another item, once they have received that item back in their returns department. Once I receive that e-voucher, I've decided that it'll be my last ever purchase from them via this e-voucher. Effecting all my other future purchases from other retailers or other owners letting their go their items, within the UK. The latter, which I've not considered ever, but am scouting around actively, due to the above experiences.

I wrote them on me being unhappy about the above experiences few days ago and as expected, no one actually wrote an acknowledgement email back to me or anything.

I figured that this will be the case, as I wrote them a thank you email with my first ever purchase off their online store, and though not important to me, I though they'd be happy to receive kind words. But nothing, I hear nothing from no one. This is petty and not important, but just thought I put this out there as reflection of their customer service in general.

Good morning,

This is the second negative review you have left about your experience. We have gone above and beyond trying to help you, offering you solutions which fall outside of our terms to ensure you have the right equipment for you.

All your emails have received a response where necessary, as did your previous review.

The earlier lens you purchased was 1 month out of the return period and you had not contacted us to say you believed it to be faulty.

Our 12 month pre-owned warranty information is clearly shown on all pre-owned items (https://www.wilkinson.co.uk/pre-owned-warranty) with information on what to do in the event of a fault / suspected fault outside the standard returns period.

As we have already confirmed, you can send the lens to us and it will be assessed for a warranty repair. Unfortunately we are unable to accept a return 6 weeks after purchase.

We have really tried to be accomodating and offered our usual (and verified by many 5* reviews) high standards of customer service, but we do not seem able to meet your extraordinarily high expectations, which seem to depend entirely on us not following our clearly stated terms and procedures.

Your customer service cases remain open and will be dealt with swiftly if/when the lenses are returned to us. After this, we wish you the very best of luck shopping with an alternative retailer.

Regards,
Alex | Wilkinson Cameras

I’ve used Wilkinson Cameras previously…

I’ve used Wilkinson Cameras previously and found them to supply only quality used items. Needed an ftz adaptor for my Nikon Z7 and had seen this on their website at a good price, with free delivery.
Haven’t been disappointed.

Hi Linda, we've sent you an email via Trustpilot asking for some information to help identify which of our stores you visited. We want to make sure you haven't mixed us up with Wilko, who are a different company from us. We sell cameras and other photographic equipment and are based in the Northwest of England.

Can you please reply to the email from Trustpilot or to this review or you can contact us by email using sales@wilkinson.co.uk

If perhaps you visited your local Wilko store, rather than Wilkinson Cameras, we'd kindly ask you to remove your review as negative reviews like this can affect whether people shop with us.

Thank you,
Alex | Wilkinson Cameras
