Good Hotel let down by poor food

We stayed 5 days/4 nights on a Rail Discoveries tour. See separate review for tour which will be posted asap as at 9.10.24).

Room = good with generous & efficient biscuit, tea/coffee, soaps/gel etc etc. inc replenishment.

Staff = overall good, hard-working & attentive.

Hotel facilities = good.

Location = Excellent across the road from station.

Food = mediocre - more details below:

The main parts of meals - I.e. meat/fish etc were acceptable (just ...).

Potato content in various forms was virtually inedible as dried out and typically overcooked or left around & rewarmed thus dried out. Every day I had to leave whole portions of potato and most veg too that were almost tasteless I would guess by overcooking or other failures.

One day the machine-supplied orange juice was so disgusting I was almost sick & had to spit it out. I dared not have any more at all.

I saw one person, exceptionally, have boiled eggs but that special offering was not made public which is poor form.

Trust me, do not rely on food at this hotel as it is currently sub-standard (Oct 24).
