Great gym ruined by poor DD company.

On the fence with Xercise4Less; was a happy member of the Leeds (for many years) and Wakefield branch (before it closed down) and really enjoyed training there. However, I moved out of area and cancelled my contract. That’s where the issues began as the DD company who collected on behalf of Xercise4Less claimed I hadn’t cancelled my membership and continued to add ridiculous fees and threatening to take matters further. It’s a good job that I was working as a compliance officer at the time as I can imagine their threats to be upsetting. It all got resolved as Xercise4Less could see how inane the DD company had become and agreed that all fees should be dropped.
It makes me wonder how many people have paid the fees as a result of threats from a company who Xercise4Less use, but don’t know about regulations they are claiming to enforce. As such I wouldn’t give a higher rating because of my experience; but the gyms are spot on.

Absolutely shocking experience

Absolutely shocking experience. Still waiting for £14,99 refund from January. Emailed manager several times and just get told it will be dealt with. If it was the other way around they are straight on your case.maybe a cheap gym buy just try to cancel etc, shocking treatment.

Pretend they have internal issues and hope you forget about your refund they owe.

I cancelled my membership in October, last payment was taken in November and an email from their customer service team stated I have no more fees due. However, they continued to charge me for the next two months.

After bringing this to their attention they refunded me for 1 of 2 payments. I brought this to their attention again and was told it was on its way within 7-10 days. After 3 MONTHS of me emailing them still no luck getting this refund.

However... Once I contacted citizens advice and was informed I could take them to the small claims court for the refund, expenses, and hassle caused, I sent their customer service team a formal complaint and told them I will be taking further action and included my evidence of the claim I have. Miraculously, a week later the issue was sorted and I have my second refund.

My local trading standards office has been informed of their shady practices and hopefully anyone who is dealing with a similar issue will know you can take them to court, and given you have the evidence, you have a good chance of winning.

Appalling customer service

xercise4less left a bad taste in my mouth. I joined in early 2019 and remained a member for 2 years. in these 2 years i never once missed a payment and always payed on time. when i found out that we were going into a second lockdown i immediately wanted to cancel my subscriptionn and direct debit. However, i recieved an email and text message telling me that money was not going to be taken out of my account due to closue of the gym for the second lockdown. I held off on the cancellation but you guessed it, they went ahead and took the money out anyway. Its has been 3 months now of me making calls, sending emails and being referred on from one useless person to the next. still no signs of this issue getting resolved. Due to this despicable cutomer service i decided to create a home gym and never deal with this headache again.
If you do join xercise4less, just make sure that you cancel your direct debit before calling them to cancel.

Inconsistent. Poor Customer Service.

I was previously a member, I left because of the poor customer care and seemingly disregard of customer service from staff. I recently took out a membership again, which was cancelled within 24 hours. The branch manager decided to ignore my emails to confirm my request for cancellation had been sent. To date this never came, so my efforts to cancel were escalated via their head office. This just cemented my initial poor experience or staff at that branch.

Still being charged!

No complaints about the gym but trying to leave is a headache I am getting charged by Harlands for payments I have already made. The manager of Harlow confirm my cancellation and told me I had paid my last monies, however Harlands are now trying to charge me even more money, stating i didn't pay and they'll add a late payment charge for something i have already paid for. Why is the gym not communicating across to Harlands.

Continued to charge after cancelling

Requested to cancel my membership, had no reply and was still charged for months. Had to call them to cancel, their response "we are backed up with a lot of cancellation requests so someone didn't get through to yours". So they think its still alright to charge. Awful customer service.

Took a payment when I don't even go there.

Not been to this gym for a few years and suddenly I have a Direct Debit up and payment taken. Has been a nightmare trying to get in contact with the right person as the 'local managers' just keep passing it off to each other. The website says contact local managers for a complaint but no one is taking responsibility or helping. Not impressed when I have not signed up for any gym at all.

AVOID FOR THE GOOD OF YOUR HEALTH

One session on the£5 first month.. it's not for me.. but god help you if you try to cancel.. its impossible-- email after email, text after text.. call after call .. I tried to cancel one week after joining.. This will end up in court!!! They should come with a health warning and they do not respect the law and 14 day distance selling rules..

Increase in membership 50%

I have a member of X4less since inception, JDGym have just bought them over , they are a present upgrading the gym, they are not even halfway through the work and I received a text informing me there’s a 50% increase in the fees, the present equipment is 5 years old and really poor, ripped fabric on the bench’s, I tried to telephone them, what a nightmare, I was told my fees would never increase as a founder member, what a load of crap, JD money grabbing ? 🤡. Bad customer service

Why does it take so long to acknowledge your customers? It is now the start of the 3rd week since I emailed you and not even an acknowledgement. I have sent 3 emails since and still no reply.
