Unreliable and dishonest
The first half of my job was done well: Dan (the owner of Yate Roofing and Building Ltd) came out quickly to see the job, diagnosed why my extension was leaking and gave me an acceptable quote based on new tiles I’d chosen. I liked Dan and was happy to employ him. After several false starts over the erection of scaffolding the old tiles came off and the roof was covered with new fabric and battens which stopped the leaks, so Dan CAN do a decent job. But then...
After some missed visits I was told the new tiles were out of stock as his supplier had shut until the New Year, so temporary tiling was put on in November. Dan offered a big reduction in the price of the job because of the inconvenience. It was so large I insisted on paying more than the revised quote as I thought he would be losing the majority of his profit for reasons beyond his control and I felt sorry for him.
Dan persuaded me he needed the remainder of the money to pay his team over Xmas and as I liked and trusted him I paid. Despite telling Dan I didn’t mind if the scaffolding remained up over December it was taken down, which seemed odd if the job was going to be finished in a few weeks. Maybe alarm bells should have been ringing then.
Dan then disappeared leaving me with a pile of rubbish in my front garden and a growing list of excuses as to why the job wasn’t being completed. I managed to cajole him into taking the rubbish away but polite requests, not so polite requests and outright threats have not prompted him to finish the actual roofing or return the portion of the money I paid for new tiles and work which has not been done.
So I am left with a job half done. I need to find a decent roofer, I have a roof of temporary tiles to be removed and disposed of (which will be extra cost) - and I have been swindled. It seems from other reviews I am not the only victim. I have a small claims court judgement and trading standards are investigating.
I would NOT recommend Yate Roofing and Building Ltd.
