Not to Trust

Signed a contract for a 6 month job. I went through onboarding and did some initial work for the client. I got a little concerned about the time that it was taking to start, so I reached out to my recruiter. The recruiter assured me that everything was fine and that I didn't need to continue my job search. In the meantime, I turned down other opportunities. THEN I received a non-descript email stating that the client's focus had changed. No, I'm sorry and we will work to find something else for you, etc. , nor did I get paid for the work that I had completed for the client.
