York St John University Reviews 

My experience with York St John University has been one of the most painful experiences of my academic journey.

I received my offer, paid my tuition deposit, completed the required CAS process and passed my pre-CAS interview. I then went ahead with my visa application, paid my visa fee and IHS, and completed my biometrics, believing I was finally close to achieving my dream of studying in the UK.

Then, after everything I had invested—financially, emotionally and academically—my CAS was withdrawn. I honestly cannot describe how devastating that was. It felt like months of hard work, money, hope and planning had been pulled away from me.

International students are human beings with real dreams behind these applications. The way this situation unfolded caused me tremendous pain and stress.

I sincerely hope the university learns from experiences like mine and understands the real human impact these decisions can have on students.

The campus looks quite nice, but if you're disabled or have any learning disorders, don't bother attending.

They put me in unsuitable accommodation, and when requested to move to a place thats ground floor or with a lift, I was told they would - but they never did.
Months went by and my flatmate was helping me up the stairs. They eventually moved out, and when they did, I was left without any help and I moved out too.
They have since harassed me for the debt, despite the complaint.
They admitted complete fault but still insisted I pay for a property I couldn't access most days.
When i requested a dorm I told them I was disabled and can't get up the stairs. They didn't listen, I requested to change, they didn't listen.
My learner adjustment plan even says that I require ground floor access or lift access, yet neither my dorm or class room was ground floor, and neither of them had a lift either.
They made a proposal to reduce the debt a little bit, which is just an insult.
I made a counter offer to pay up to the date I raised an official request to change accommodation at my appointment with the disability team (as I was told to do by the accommodation team), and they have since ignored me proposal, and my follow up emails.

I was also at times hung up on, and spoken to like trash by Simon from the accommodation team.

I will be completing my first year and then changing to a university that considers the equality act of 2010.

St John's University, I have come to believe, is
not fit for purpose.

Overseas students apply to St John's university via 3rd party agencies.

I have seen these students living & sleeping in the library - having made homeless by unscrupulous landlords.

This university's vetting procedure, is either non existent or totally inadequate. Nor, I feel, St John's University has any adequate/affordable provisions to cater for these students, who are, victims of many nefarious agencies.

St John's Uni also claims to be "inclusive" but from what I've experienced, some staff are clearly prejudice against people who have certain disabilities.

I also feel many of their policies could be scrutinized under The Equality Act 2010.
