About Young Architect Academy

Written by the company

Young Architect has been helping architects pass the ARE exam and earn their architecture license since 2013. For more than a decade, we have helped thousands of candidates navigate the path to licensure with one mission: make architect exam prep actually work for people with full-time jobs and real lives.

After experiencing the challenges of the ARE firsthand, licensed architect Michael Riscica founded Young Architect with a simple belief: nobody should have to navigate the path to licensure alone, guessing what to study, burning out, or wondering if they are even making progress.

The ARE Boot Camp is the flagship coaching program and it has been running since 2015. This is not a course you watch by yourself. It is live coaching with a real person guiding you through the entire architect registration exam process.

Weekly curriculum. Daily study groups. Real accountability. Boot Camp breaks the architect exam down into small, manageable pieces so you can keep working full-time and still make consistent progress toward passing.

After years of coaching candidates through the ARE, we\u2019ve learned something. The fastest way to find success on the ARE is to stop worrying about the minimum you need to know to pass.

Everyone wants to pass these exams. That is the whole reason we are here. But we approach it differently. We teach candidates to study with the intention of using this information on real projects with real clients. We use the architect exam as a launchpad toward a successful architecture career, not just a box to check.

That is what separates Young Architect from everyone else. They focus on passing an exam. We focus on creating great architects who pass exams.

Every course, every practice question, and every video we create is built directly from NCARB's published objectives. Those objectives define the exam, so they define everything we teach.

For candidates who prefer to study on their own schedule, the ARE 101 Membership is the most comprehensive set of self-paced ARE study materials available. Members get access to nine courses covering all six ARE 5.0 exam divisions, plus dedicated courses on AIA contracts, building codes, and building systems. Over 150 hours of video, thousands of practice questions, flashcards, and case studies. All available with a monthly subscription you can cancel anytime.

Young Architect also provides comprehensive preparation for CSI certification exams. CDT 101 prepares candidates for the CDT certification (Construction Documents Technologist) exam, CCCA 101 covers the Certified Construction Contract Administrator exam, and CCPR 101 prepares candidates for the Certified Construction Product Representative exam.

The Architect Exam Podcast is one of the most popular free resources in ARE exam preparation, with over 75 episodes covering construction knowledge, study strategies, and professional practice. New episodes are released every week, and most include free downloadable study notes so you can focus on learning instead of scrambling to take notes.

Whether you are preparing for the ARE, earning a CSI certification, or just beginning your journey toward licensure, Young Architect provides the coaching, courses, and community to help you succeed, not just on the exam, but throughout your career.

Great resource when you aren't sure where to start

It was great to have all of the resources needed to pass the exams in one place and organized.

That's exactly what we built it for. Not knowing where to start is one of the biggest reasons people stall out, so having everything organized in one place takes that guesswork off your plate.

Glad it's working for you. Keep going.

Doing the Pro Practice course helped me…

Doing the Pro Practice course helped me get through the first four exams with ease. Now I'm just trying to finish the 2 tech exams.
There is a great environment for people, resources, and strength in taking these exams. I recommended the course to my coworkers 2 of them are in the pro practice now.

Four down with ease is no small thing. That's a strong foundation heading into the technical exams.

And the fact that two of your coworkers signed up because of your recommendation says more than any review could. Having people in your corner who are going through the same process makes the whole journey better for everyone.

Finish strong. You're almost there.

YA Materials Above Them All

I've used just about every ARE study resource available, but the Young Architect Academy has made the biggest difference in my exam preparation. The podcasts break down complex concepts into manageable, easy-to-understand lessons, and the accompanying visual study sheets make the material much easier to retain. The Academy and Bootcamp gave me the structure and roadmap I needed to finally start passing my exams. Looking back, I only wish I had invested in these resources sooner.

Deborah, hearing that Young Architect Academy stood out after you tried everything else is a huge compliment. We put a lot of thought into how the Architect Exam Podcast, ARE Bootcamp and the ARE 101 courses work together so the material actually sticks, not just makes sense in the moment.

The "I wish I had started sooner" feeling is something we hear a lot, and honestly it's one of the reasons we try so hard to get the word out. Glad you found us when you did. Keep that momentum going.

ARE Boot Camp

I first met Mike when I was a student at NYIT. He came in to speak about the ARE's, and it was the first time I really understood what the licensing process looked like. I remember learning a lot from that presentation, and it stuck with me after graduation.

Once I graduated, I started trying to study for the exams on my own. I thought I could figure it out, but quickly realized that I needed help from someone who truly understood how these exams worked. Someone can know a lot about architecture and be good at their job, but the exams focus on subjects that I was not expecting at all.

I struggled for a while and was not able to pass any of the exams until I joined the Young Architect Boot Camp. It was one of the best investments I could've made in study material. It also gave me people to talk to who understood exactly what I was going through.

Mike was there throughout the entire process. After every exam, whether I passed or failed, I had someone who could help me figure out what to do next. That made a huge difference for me, especially during the times when I was frustrated and felt like I was not making progress.

I became a licensed architect in September of 2022, and today I run my own architecture firm. I truly do not believe I would be where I am today without Mike and the Young Architect team. I have recommended the program to many people before, and I will continue to recommend it. Becoming an architect was something I worked toward for years, and their help played a major part in making that dream a reality.

Brian, this means a lot. I remember that NYIT presentation. It's wild to think about how long ago that was and where you are now.

Watching you go from struggling with the exams to running your own firm is exactly why we do this. ARE Boot Camp isn't just about passing tests, it's about building the kind of architect who can go out and do great work. You're proof of that.

Thanks for being one of the first to leave us a review here. It really helps other candidates who are in the same spot you were in, trying to figure out if they can actually do this. The answer is always yes.

Congrats again on the firm. Can't wait to see what you build next.
