Having searched for hours, if not days, to find a courier that would collect a 39kg package from Folkestone, Interparcel was the only website, from scores tried, that came up trumps with Birmingham-based Proovia. Proovia collected and delivered exactly as they promised. Perfect!

Not yet having had the chance to test the Coco & Coir all-purpose compost, my reflections are solely on the website, purchasing, packaging and delivery.

First off, the site was clear, user-friendly and easy to navigate. Having read the Gardening Which? review, awarding it a 'Best Buy', I felt compelled to look at this promising peat alternative, albeit the apparent elephant in the room was the potential cost and storage space required, seeing as how I get through something in the region of 4-500 litres of compost each year. I needn't have worried!

C&C offers increasing discounts, the more packs you order. I ordered 6 75l packs, giving me a 30% discount plus free delivery. This also earned me 40 points, which gave me an additional £4 off. Oh yes, and there's cashback available too!

You'd imagine that would be a very bulky delivery - you'd be wrong. I've called them 'packs', because that's exactly what they are. Each 75l pack of compost is completely dry and compressed into foot-square blocks, 4 inches thick. And, being dry, it's extremely portable and doesn't deteriorate over time, which is important, seeing as how it contains slow-release fertiliser as well. It's perfect for storage, as it takes up only a fraction of the space 75l of compost would normally fill. To bulk it up before use, you simply add water and wait 20 minutes. On this point, though, this is the only negative - you'll need a large leak-proof container for this process. Fortunately, I have a large barrow, so no problem, but it is something you'll have to factor in.

Delivery-wise, it arrived on my doorstep 48 hours later, courtesy of Fedex. That's service for you - no lugging 6 heavy bags of compost into my car boot (assuming the boot's big enough), risking back injury and the bags splitting, with all the frustration that entails!

All I need to do now is test how good it is as a peat-free growing medium for my seeds and pots. Watch this space!

Good price for a twin set of these secure hanging baskets. Well packaged, rapid delivery within 48 hours.
I first came across these baskets 24 years ago. Yes, they're promoted and sold for their anti-theft design, but in reality, they're SO much better than that: no chains to allow the baskets to blow around uncontrollably in the wind, no need to worry where the 'front' of the basket will be - you simply rotate them so that they grow evenly. Solidly constructed, they last years.

Undoubtedly good deals to be had, though this has been offset by steep delivery charges. They've apparently just agreed a new DPD delivery partnership, so only time will tell if this works out better.

Without doubt, Wren came up with the goods, by way of a well-made, robust, high-quality, competitively-priced kitchen.There's much to be said for their pre-constructed units. The two designers were great, taking all the stress out of any tricky choices to be made. I can't deny it, there were a few hiccups en route, with Covid playing its part when it came to the installation, but these things happen. The important thing was that Wren's teams and the installer helped to smooth out the bumps and the inevitable minor snagging was addressed promptly, courteously and to my satisfaction, right through to the final screw and adjustment!
