A complete nightmare from start to finish. This has genuinely been one of the most frustrating customer service experiences I've had. I originally ordered an AGM battery online for my Peugeot and booked collection/fitting at Halfords Balham. At the store I was told that AGM was not the correct battery and that I should have an EFB instead. I specifically questioned this because the information I had indicated AGM, but I followed the advice of the staff and accepted the EFB they recommended. Before purchasing it, I personally heard a member of staff ask the colleague behind the counter how their membership numbers were looking for that week. I was then told I could have the EFB fitted without paying separately for fitting if I took out the Halfords Motoring Club membership, and I was told I could cancel the membership afterwards. Looking back at the experience, this has left me extremely disappointed with how the membership was sold to me. The battery subsequently caused repeated problems and I was left stranded several times. I even returned to the store accompanied by an AA mechanic because of the battery issue, but I still couldn't get the matter properly resolved. Eventually I returned the battery to the store. They took my name and telephone number and told me the manager would call me the following day. That call never came. I then had to deal with Customer Support, provide proof of purchase and explain the situation again. I supplied the information they requested, yet the process continued dragging on while I was told they were trying to contact their own store. What frustrates me most is how unnecessarily difficult the entire process became. Instead of receiving a straightforward resolution, I had to keep providing information, chasing and waiting for responses. Eventually I became so fed up that I actually told Halfords to keep the returned battery and that I no longer wanted the refund. Think about that, I reached the point where I was prepared to lose the money simply because I wanted the whole nightmare to end. It genuinely felt to me as though resolving the issue was made so difficult that eventually the customer just gives up. In my case, that's exactly what happened. After giving up on the refund, all I asked was for my Motoring Club membership to be cancelled. Even then, instead of simply confirming the cancellation, I received a response warning me that an early exit payment may apply, despite having been told in store when the membership was sold to me that I could cancel it. I wasn't looking for special treatment. I wanted a suitable battery, reasonable after-sales support when it caused problems, and a straightforward resolution. Instead, I ended up spending far too much time dealing with the store and Customer Support, gave up on getting my money back, and was left completely frustrated by the entire experience. After all of this, I have completely lost confidence in Halfords. I won't be using them again.
