Reviewers widely reported poor or non-existent customer service, describing interactions as unhelpful, rude, and unprofessional, with little willingness to resolve issues. Ordered 200 bare root grey alder trees

Ordered 200 bare root grey alder trees. Ordered and paid for 60/90cm plants, received little twigs barely bigger than 20cm. Customer service appalling. They ended up ignoring my emails after being rude. Seems to be thr same story with all.other reviews. Poor quality goods that don't meet the description and poor customer service

Completely mis-sold

I felt completely mis-sold on a large order of hedging plants from this company. Apparently their measuring methods and height specifications differ from the standard approach other nurseries take yet they neglect to state that anywhere.

I tried to discuss this with their customer service, who were frankly rude, unapologetic and patronising. My only option was to repackage and return at my own expense leaving me out of pocket and back to square one.

Plants of excellent quality and delivery was prompt

What made my experience great and be a returning customer is the quality and variety of their plants. For those reviews saying their plants arrived dead that could only be their lack of knowledge regarding barefoot plants which are dormont until planted into the ground as for any other plant, of course the plant is bare at this time of year, guys it's the winter season. I can only presume you've have not read the descriptions from the seller stating plant will not look like the one advertised, stated clearly. Would only buy from this company, I purchased over £200 from them recently and every plant was well packaged and all covered with hay. Thanks @3 fat Pigs for assisting in divulging with my new gardening passion.

AVOID! Complete CON!

Absolute con! Ordered “10 Mixed Mature Garden Shrubs” and what I received is nothing short of pathetic. Half are dead, most are damaged/crooked/out of the pot - and, only one was labelled. I did not expect them look like the photos… but come on. Completely misled and they expect me to ship them back to Northern Ireland at my cost. Shocking. MUST AVOID!!

DISGUSTING

Hi

Received this order Thursday and healed them in in wrapper, came to unpack today and plant
I only have 3 fruit trees, Not 4...Not sure which one is missing as label writing is worn away as per photo, The only one I can read is printed Bramley apple.

Very disappointed with the 3 fruit trees I have...
Trunk very short before branches sprout out...More like a bush than a tree, imposable to cut round them with my mower as they get larger.
The tops of nearly all the branches look like they have been topped off with hedge cutter.
I was expecting these trees to grow 3 to 4 meters high; you have stunted them.
I nearly didn't plant them and throw them away,

These are the worst trees I have ever seen.

Regards

Paul Campion

Disgraceful

Disgraceful , rude and unhelpful customer service and plants which do not match description of advert. When I complained they told me that , as my photos were not clear , I was obviously lying and that I had received the correct plants ???!!!!
I purchased Potted Cherry Laurel Trees 40 - 50cm but what I received were plants about 25cm tall twigs in a 10cm tall pot .
Dreadful things which were fit only for the bin.
Purchased through B&Q who allow this scam of a company to sell through their website .
Do not buy from them. Avoid at all costs to save yourself money and abuse!
Edit : got an email today , 3 months later asking for my order details so that they could verify my review as a genuine purchase ? Well, considering B&Q kindly refunded me £10 as a goodwill gesture, my purchase order 1044721961-A was certainly verified ! Do not buy from beechwood gardens or 3 fat pigs and save yourself the stress!

Not as described

OK... but "ready to fruit"? What was sent was an unfeathered maiden (1 year old shoot) that would not under any circumstances fruit for at least 2-3 years. Hard to see how that is not false advertising.

Plants arrived in terrible state..

Plants arrived in an awful state. Ordered through Beechwood and they were supposed to be 9cm Autumn colour.
They were small, unhealthy and had moss all in the pots.
Such a sorry state they were in and not fit to be planted. Very disappointed.

We purchased some plants from this garden canter 3 fat pigs Beechwood in Ireland …

We purchased some plants from this garden center,
When they arrived they were a mess and full of disease !
We contacted the garden center and they were not helpfull at all! There customer service skills are 0! I asked for a full refund and they told me I'm threatening!
There a joke! I then had to get a case up with B&Q as I brought them through them, they didn't get anywhere with 3 fat pigs! And my case was closed.
I then contacted the store manger off B&Q and he asked me to bring the plants into the store, he was disgusted with the plants and put them in a sealed bag to go in the rubbish,he then issued me with a full refund,Thank you B&Q ! DO NOT BUY FROM THIS GARDEN CENTER BEECHWOOD NURSERY'S 3 FAT PIGS IN IRELAND.

I have ordered several plants/ shrubs…

I have ordered several plants/ shrubs etc. from ‘3 Fat Pigs,’ over the years with no reason to complain.
I bought 6 bare-root birch trees from them very recently and 3 thornless blackberry canes. All these arrived swiftly and in excellent condition.
DPD and Royal Mail kept me up-to-date with the orders’ progress and the items arrived as advised.
I will continue to fill our garden with plants from these guys; excellent value.

Fobbed off.

Bare root apple tree arrived on time. Packaging was terrible, wrapped in polyethylene with binding tape. When opened 5 of the tree branches were broken.
Contacted the company by email, they came back to me advising me it would not harm the tree, cut off the damage branches.
Last time I use this company.

I have tried to get a response from…

I have tried to get a response from this lot.....who are in fact Beechwood nurseries, based in Ireland regarding my bare root beech trees sent in late April ( I knew it was end of season for bare roots and so did they)......sent them 4 emails and no reply.....now going to contact card company to see if they can help.....see email below.....
This is the 3rd time I am emailing you regarding the tree problem.....I am extremely disappointed to not have had a reply...... copy below....

Hello, I am now providing an update on the green beech tree situation. I forgot to mention previously that each 2 foot hole was provided with organic, peat free compost to enhance nutrition. Each hole was dug out according to instructions. The area was more than adequately watered via a water pipe with holes in it on a timed 4 hours morning and evening basis. When the rain was particularly heavy the system was turned off.

I went around all the trees a couple of weeks ago (I check a few times each week anyway) and performed removal of buds and scraped the bark to determine colour (brown) on each tree that have no leaves. You previously suggested removing grass growing at bases of the trees which I did but I must say the trees with the most leaf growth had the most grass growing around them...! The ones that had the least grass did not develop but their soil was always damp. Out of the 50 planted we have 21 not taken in any shape or form and are dead plus the copper beach you sent in error.

I would appreciate having 22 trees replaced.

Regards,
John
Update Feb/2025: never hear from them, as many others have found. Card company couldn't help as passed the time limit for complaining/charge back. It's been suggested I talk with citizen's advice since they should not be able to get away with it. One has to decide is it worth the effort to go through the explanations again. There are more important things in life...!! I've ordered trees elsewhere now (with an excellent service) to replace the 'lost' ones. Little chance now of a monetary reimbursement and put down to one of life's lessons.

Very disappointing experience.

Very disappointing experience.
I purchased Potted Cherry Laurel Trees 40 - 50cm but what I received were plants about 25 - 28cm tall in a 10cm tall pot - apparently they include the pot size in the height of the overall plant description. Even including the pot these plants were not the size described on their web site, they were small immature plants when what I wanted were decent sized plants. When I complained I was told I could return them for a refund or have £4 back!!! I want to return but the company will not confirm they will cover my return postage costs despite me emailing them multiple times - no response!
Overall a very disappointing experience.

Copy of email sent to Beechwood Trees…

Copy of email sent to Beechwood Trees (3fatpigs):
Hello,
I spent around £1000 on planting last year, I think around a quarter of that was with you. This year, it could have been all of it but I will spend nothing with you for the following reasons:
1) Terrible customer service with abysmal attitude from Lenka
2) Poor survival rate of your products - higher prices locally are worth paying for their guaranteed survival - Thorpe trees replace anything which doesn't leaf in the first spring
3) Poor packaging of your products which probably leant to above
4) Failure to reply to my previous message.
I had recommended you to family and friends based on your prices but I will do everything in my power to ensure they don't order anything more from you.

Point number 4 refers to an enquiry sent in June of this year as to guarantee of survival due to a poor survival rate of their products. I'm sure they'll try to blame my handling but the acre of happy trees and kilometre of hedge I planted from other sellers over the last few years is evidence against this. They bend trees in half and wrap them in clingfilm to ship with no protection against temperature in the several days they are in transit for Northern Ireland. 20% of the Himalayan birch had almost no roots and did not leaf in the spring (now very obviously dead) along with many other trees they sent me. About 50% of the silver birch suffered crown die back, I've assumed from root damage in shipping. There were multiple items missing from multiple orders. I was protected by ebay but I do wonder if they would have sent these on if I'd ordered from their website. Just look at the company rating and consider whether its a good idea to order from them.

Healthy shrubs

I ordered 4 shrubs. One large (1.5ltr) & 3 small. They arrived quite quickly & were extremely well packaged. The straw that was inside the box went straight into my raised bed around the courgettes.
The plants are very healthy & are already looking gorgeous in my garden.
I was very impressed with the prices and shocked to see bad reviews
