Shabby practice in face of Corona Virus in Dillon CO on AirBnB

Due to Corona Virus, travel plans are changing rapidly, for very good reasons. However AirBnB is not making it easy for their users to do so, sticking people with expensive stays subject to shabby refunds.

Specifically, our host for this property in Dillon CO (listing under "Rustic condo w/shared hot tub/pool, great location near ski resorts") hides behind the AirBnB policies and has refused to accommodate. She stands to gain $1,800 by refusing to refund, and so far has refused to rebook for a different travel period. By not rebooking, she leaves her place open for future business, and sticks us with nearly the entire 9-day stay payment as penalty.

The host points to AirBnB's policies, and AirBnB tells us the host refuses to refund. No one dares to admit they are taking advantage of the situation. Instead they turn you into a ping pong ball that bounces between two stone walls.

This is shabby beyond words. It's neither honorable business practice, nor good civic behavior. It's taking advantage of a global pandemic for personal gain, without regard to her own region's public health, nor her customer's well being.

Refund horror

I have booked several homes through Airbnb and found them great but recently I found I had to cancel a booking. The money was sent to my old credit card (One that was lost) and so I have not received it. I checked with the bank. I sent several messages (a lot) to Airbnb through their website but no one will contact me or message me. I am still waiting for a refund from 27th February. It is now nearly the end of March. The company has no direct contact with its customers and appears not to be able to read its messages on its website.

Warning against scam holidays homes on Airbnb mobileapp

We warn all users of Airbnb services against searching for holiday homes on Airbnb mobileapp.
We were first time users of Airbnb services and went looking for a holiday home on their mobileapp.
The app does not contain any possibility to log into the Airbnb account and does not contain any of the instructions for use of Airbnb services which are placed on the Airbnb website.
The scam holiday home appeared on the mobileapp with clear instructions to contact the host on a specific e-mail address to check availability.
When checking availability the socalled host allegedly sent instructions to Airbnb to send a confirmation of the order to us - which Airbnb did in a formal Itinery clearly appearing to be sent from Airbnb's website and with a formal listing of the holiday home described totally as all other holiday homes on the Airbnb website. Links to the listing and the payment information was contained with Airbnb logos and appearing totally as if it came from the Airbnb system. A chat button was contained and we even used the chat to confirm why we had to use an alternative payment method (bank transfer). We got a perfectly good explanation on this and even received a copy of the chat like professional companies normally deliver. However later it turned out that the chat was also a scam (since first time users we did not know that Airbnb does not have any chat system....)
Five days later we received an e-mail from Airbnb saying that we may have been compromised. We have not yet received any explanation how Airbnb could know this since Airbnb has denied to have any knowledge of the scam holiday home and scam host.

After a longer correspondance in which we have delivered evidence to Airbnb on the scam, Airbnb has denied to take on any responsibility for the fact that this scam could take place via their service offerings even though the false holiday home clearly appeared in their app with false instructions and even though Airbnb at some point in this has had knowledge about it (but informed us one week after the holiday home had been booked).

We have strongly recommended to Airbnb to take down their mobileapp until proper instructions have been placed in the mobileapp and the security in the app has been strengthened. Further we have recommended Airbnb to strengthen the security on their mobileapp/website since it is apperently possible to create scam advertisements without Airbnb detecting before it is too late..Further it is apparently possible for externals to monitor the searches customers place in the mobileapp so that they can direct their scam holiday homes to the right people..

So this is a warning to everyone considering to use the services of Airbnb. in general and especially not to use the Airbnb mobileapp.
