Rang up to pay 2 missed payments of £52.50 to be told its £78. I said ive had no confirmation that i owe that much and only willing to pay £52.50 until i get written confirmation. The guy on the phone didnt even listen and was rude. He then proceeded to say he will put the account on hold as i was refusing to pay. I told him i wasnt refusing to pay i just want written confirmation that i owe £78. 3 times i had to explain this to him. I terminated the call in the end. Horrible experience
Update - i rang tv licence and all sorted in less than 5 minutes. DO NOT GO THROUGH AKINIKA ring the tv licence first and they will help you

No legitimate reason to be calling us, won't even tell me why

Was contacted twice within two days, both times missed the call because they contacted me during work. Both times I called back only to be told that they couldn't discuss anything with me because its not the name on the account.
I was the one being hounded by tv licensing, I paid for the license, it was my mobile that they called so why can they not even tell me the reason why I'm being bothered at work with this issue???? I understand data protection given that I work in a hotel but this is ridiculous, they told me to have my boyfriend call them back but I won't be doing so as I don't believe they have a legitimate reason to be contacting us since our tv license is up to date

Had these people chasing me for a debt…

Had these people chasing me for a debt that wasn’t due. They wanted me to make a payment for a future debit. They asked for debit card details. I refused. Contacted tv licensing directly confirmed that all payments were up to date. DO NOT EVER GIVE CARD DETAILS OVER THE PHONE. Their hounding of people is very poor indeed.

If I could give them no stars I would

If I could give them no stars I would. This so called debt recovery agency are part of tv licensing, no debt recovery would take on a debt of £5. After June 2020 I will be terminating needing a licence after what they are doing to pensioners. Don't be fooled by this fake company, no debt recovery agency would be able to threaten to cancel your tv licence like they threatened me with, for £5. They've made up this agency because the government are de-criminalising not having a licence, so they won't be able to fine people anymore, now they want a different scare tactic. They also state the tv licence is also for channels like ITV, it's a BBC licence.

I got an unsolicited text from Akinika…

I got an unsolicited text from Akinika this morning saying they need to talk to me about my TV Licensing. Never heard of them before so I thought it was a scam. TV Licensing say that Akinika is their only debt collection agency. So you would expect there to be no miscommunication between them. I previously received no notification of debt from TV Licensing which is not surprising really as I'm on an Auto-renewing Direct Debit. I checked my TV Licensing account and I'm fully paid up to date. Clearly there is something going wrong between the two organisations. BUT I CAN DO WITHOUT THE WORRY OF DEBT COLLECTION AND THE TIME SPENT (2 HOURS) CHECKING THAT I'VE DONE EVERYTHING RIGHT. Whilst I was checking my TV Licensing account their site crashed with, "Our website is temporarily unavailable. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. We are working hard to resolve this issue." I wonder if they've just found out between them that something has gone wrong? Have a nice day everyone.

I read some of the views here before making payment as TV licensing as never sent a debt collector before for falling behind payment. Was a bit weary to phone to pay at first has some have had a problem with using them before, but I can honestly say I had no problems at all and the woman on the phone was polite and friendly. The debt as been paid and all sorted now.

As per other reviews

As per other reviews. Tried upteen numerous times to pay full amount due online , type in amount to pay in full, (38.87) then go to the card payment page whereupon it automatically reverts to be only able to pay 38.86, 1p less!!

I have emailed over twenty times, attempted numerous times to ring no one EVER answers,

I tried paying in full at the post office but there is over 2.00 charge to pay via this method.

I almost caved in to pay the amount less one penny online to make payment, but I don't want to stay in their debt, I simply want to pay the amount in full!

I think advice from citizens advice is next as it does all seem underhand when all I want to do is pay the balance they say I owe ..

I have future direct debits set up with TV licencing so I do not see why they will not allow me to pay the amount in full.

I am very very disappointed TV licencing use such underhand companies and methods to regain money , I always wanted to pay outright in full but before I knew it ( I was out of the country when apparently my direct debit payment failed) TV licencing had got akinika involved after no time at all.

I am so disappointed that I've decided upon my current years licence renewal date, I will not renew my TV licence and not watch live TV again but instead watch Netflix

How underhand can a company get?

I had also paid TV licencing the amount online, and explained to them that I had paid, upon which time they cancelled my pending payment , forcing me to still have to pay akinika the amount that I had , by this time, paid them .!

Very extremely poor service taking advantage

Vile collections agents who blatantly…

Vile collections agents who blatantly manipulate the truth without concern. Inadequate complaints process with two rude officers who seem to be completely apathetic. There is an operational manager who openly states to employees that she is too important to take telephone calls. The good thing is that if you challenge them repeatedly over their dishonesty and incompetence they start a childish tantrum and refuse to engage with you any further. Be persistent it will happen. That way I was able to resolve the issue with TV Licencing in ten minutes flat. Take no notice of any threats this company makes. They are entirely toothless and essentially they are unlikely to have any motivation to take action in the first place. Waste of time and TV licencing money.

I needed to repay a 38.55 debt for TV…

I needed to repay a £38.55 debt for our flat's TV License (flatmate had moved out and hadn't paid the last month's instalment, which meant we missed it).

I tried paying online, put in the amount of £38.55, and checked several times with my letter that it was the right amount before continuing, only when I got to the confirmation page, it said the amount paid was £38.54. Of course, when I tried to pay that vital extra penny, the online payment form told me the minimum payment needed to be £5... Sneaky.

It seems that either their website needs fixing, or perhaps they are using slightly unethical practices to make sure us paupers remain indebted to them. I will be ringing in on Tuesday to settle my £0.01 debt before I end up owing several more pennies worth of interest on this.

It's been a pleasure, Akinika <3

Heartless people that just want the maximum amount of money possible

It doesn't matter if your innocent, you've already paid, you've got amnesia for a disability. Or even you've moved into a brand new house which was the previous house of people who owed money. They just want to extract the most amount of money possible. Every month they send letters threatening jail or police, regardless of the situation, they charge you £50 at first. then if you don't pay within 3 hours they charge an additional £200. Give it a week, more fines and charge £800. I didn't owe them any money, they said I had a natwest bank fine of £20. (I've never had an account with natwest). I told them there was a mistake, obviously they don't listen and I get letters every month saying I owe £8'000 and they will put me in jail and take my home or send people to take my TV and other expensive valueable items, and then next month £19'000. This was 2 years ago, I now just throw letters away, last one i opened was last week which said £190'000. Ridiculous, nobody can pay that much.
