Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 103 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. People frequently encountered frustrating claim processes, facing unexpected denials, delayed payments, and repeated demands to resubmit identical documents. Consumers also described unhelpful support representatives who offered little guidance when travel cancellations happened or when assistance was desperately needed. However, some reviewers were happy with the service. These customers mentioned that submitting their paperwork online was surprisingly straightforward, leading to fast reimbursements from friendly and professional staff members. A few other people also felt that the advisors were very supportive and helpful when handling unexpected medical emergencies abroad.

Don't waste your money

I foolishly purchased insurance for a trip as I know American Airlines has frequent problems. As expected, flight was cancelled. Required an overnight stay. I was able to stay with a friend. I only requested meal reimbursements. Claim was denied because they determined the receipts were invalid.

I’ve been a Tesco Insurance…

I’ve been a Tesco Insurance policyholder for a year, and I’m extremely disappointed with their service since Allianz took over as underwriter. Previously, under AXA, I could claim medical expenses under £99 without any issues. However, my recent claim for a similar amount was rejected, and I received no clear notification about changes to the policy terms or claim thresholds in the renewal quotation.

The lack of transparency and communication regarding these changes is unacceptable. This rejection has caused me significant inconvenience, and I’m frustrated by the poor handling of the transition. I expected better from Tesco Insurance and Allianz. Avoid if you value clear communication and reliable claims processing.

Inefficient

Hopeless. We had to cancel a holiday and started the claim for my husband who was taken ill nearly two months ago. They keep asking for paperwork which I’ve already sent. I myself used Aviva and my claim was handled and reimbursed within seven days. I’m still sending paperwork to Allianz. Really really unsatisfactory.

Do NOT buy insurance from this company

Do NOT buy insurance from this company! I would strongly recommend to anyone considering travel insurance with Allianz to check with other companies.
A flight that we were on had a heart attack victim on board. The flight returned to Atlanta. We were told that the pilots were out of time and that the flight was canceled. Allianz cost me more than $10,000, not including the price of the insurance plan.
They claimed that the flight was delayed and wouldn't even cover part of the trip cost. I tried repeatedly to convince them that the flight was canceled and not delayed, but they would not cover my losses. I will never work with them again.
Don't do it. Go elsewhere.

It took three attempts to lodge our…

It took three attempts to lodge our claim, each time with minimal to non communication regarding the problems with lodging the claim. Finally after one month our claim was approved but in spite of the correct bank account details on our claim, they used an incorrect Bank number hence the payment failed. After waiting 7 days a phone call from me discovered the problem and I advised them of their mistake. I was assured that payment would take place within 2 to 3 days. 5 days later i was advised the
further delay was due to the weekend falling within the 5 day period. I was advised that once approval was given the payment would once again take place this time within 3 to 4 days. Hence it took an approval to happen after each communication (3 times) before anything could take place in spit of approval being given with their first attempt to pay the money. Communication was made even more difficult with their use of a call centre populated by people who had English as a second language requiring multiple requests for conversation to be repeated until I understood what was being said by the operator.

Rapid claims authorisation and great staff

I had a really positive experience with Allianz travel insurance through my packaged bank account with Lloyds. Phone call was answered promptly, staff were very helpful and my claim was authorised in under 24 hours. I couldn't have asked for better.

Disappointed with whole claims…

Disappointed with whole claims experience! Allianz, the insurance company were not helpful at all. I thought insurance policy are put in place to help in difficult situations, not the case in my experience, the insurance company used loophole to not cover an emergency travel situation when both my wife and young daughter were ill and needed to travel back to UK. Very disappointed, they will find a way not to cover your claim.

Allianz insurance are useless

Allianz insurance are useless. Have spent weeks trying to claim on travel insurance taken out via Eurostar.
There is no point in phoning as they never answer.
No point in writing either.

Poor service and lack of transparency

I tried to upgrade my daughter's existing cover for a new (and common) additional diagnosis. It got rejected through the online system. I phoned the team to ask questions but essentially got a 'computer says no' answer with no explanation. No questions. No evidence. And no information I can use to help me get additional insurance elsewhere. This service is meant to be a benefit on my expensive bank account and not a hinderance. We have never even made an insurance claim before. The only way I can cancel my cover is to cancel my bank account - so I'll be doing that!

Horrendous experience with this…

Horrendous experience with this company. Save your money and avoid them.

Me and my (pregnant) partner were due to fly from Milos to Crete, Chania, when our flight was cancelled.

We were left stranded on the island.

The only way to reach Crete was to travel overnight via ferry into Heraklion, before having to arrange for a taxi to take us to our hotel in Chania.

Due to the cancelled flight, we missed one of our nights at our hotel.

We had to pay for food, the overnight ferry, the taxi to our hotel, and Allianz haven't refunded a penny back to us. They wouldn't even cover the one night hotel that we missed.

They've referred me to section 3 of their policy, saying that they do not cover travel disruption??? lol.

I've only left 1 star, as I couldn't leave 0.

Very fast payout for large claim

My claim for many thousands of dollars was settled within a couple of weeks. There were no queries from them so perhaps it pays to make sure all your documentation is submitted correctly!

Utterly useless took over from tesco…

Utterly useless took over from tesco insurance.
I fell and sprained my ankle badly x-rayed twice at A +E they thought it was broken , badly bruised the other ankle 10mls of morphine, crutches an air boot given ,I was wheelchaired out to my daughters car as I couldn't stand.
Letter from hospital. It was Sunday . I was told I wouldn't be paid as my doctor couldn't write on a form that he advised me not to go,even though I got in touch with my gp surgery asap, my gp was on holiday for 2 weeks The consultant at A+E, said if I went there was a small increased risk of a DVT happening, both my mother and sister both had embolism .I live in Devon would of had to get the train to London, not being able to stand, pull my luggage etc ,then the rest is obvious. Was going to marrakesh for a few days .Never again wish I'd seen the reviews but I wasn't told at the time that tesco were transferring to Allianz!
Sincerely I do not recommend!!

Worst Insurance company claim insurance…

Worst Insurance company claim insurance Ive ever had, Indian call centre so line was bad and English poor. Call’s kept being put around the office in circles, they Finaly payed out but only 1/2 the agreed amount. A month later and dozens of attempted calls they paid the second 1/2 with no comment…dodgy. They also use pre programmed background noise to frustrate you to make you give up (I recorded these and played them back…exactly the same coffing and people chatting each time). NEVER USE ALLIANZ
