Worst customer service i have ever…
Worst customer service i have ever experienced. I have been using this bank for a number of years without issue, but recently, it seems there isn't a single english speaking person in the entire company. Any issue you have, fraud, or account questions, and have to speak to them on the phone, its always someone who speaks insanely broken English, and is incredibly rude. IF they resolve this fraud issue, i will be changing banks asap.
STAY AWAY! BAD SOFTWARE AND WEBSITE IS BUGGED
DO YOUR REASEARCH, Ally hides all negative press, and wont allow customers to post reviews on its own website. There are numerous class action lawsuits pending: "This bank needs to be investigated by FINRA again, we are working to file a class action lawsuit after contacting several hundred other users, and doing an independant undercover investigation there are numerous violations and accounting issues, we are working to notify the public to avoid opening accounts." -Robert Hughes, Esq.

Sent a payoff check for a refi with…
Sent a payoff check for a refi with another bank. It was recieved a day after the payoff window amount due to mail. So instead of taking the check and calling me for the few dollars difference, they returned the check via USPS. Now, I have 2 payments in one month. Horrible call center. Don't seem to have a clue how to actually resolve an issue with any complexity. Another company going cheap on service, horrible for customers. Last person likely lied to me about a department within Ally that doesn't take calls, since I've not received a call back. So I'll have overpaid by now and have to try getting my money back. Should be criminal, but class action awards attorneys more than customers. Will start calling again this week. I'm retired, so I'll wear them out until it's resolved.
A Very Competitive Bank
I have been banking with Ally for almost 10 years. They have done exceptionally good. Their interest rates are always very competitive in comparing to other banks. They have variety of products online, such as checking, savings, CDs (including No Penalty CDs) The more unbeatable is that they have the US customers service 24/7 for all different accounts services such as IRA.
Awful, Unacceptable customer service
Ally used to have great customer service. Now it is awful, the worst. I was greeted with a poor voice response system that is both slow and ineffective. Eventually I was told I would be transferred to an associate. I was told it was a 23 minute wait!
People don't call banks to chat, they call because it's about their money and important. 23 minutes? After 5 minutes of holding I was told it was still "23 minutes."
Totally unacceptable.
My call was about a $6,000 check that was mobile deposited and did not get credited. I'm not happy and will probably end my over a decade association with Ally. My last call on a different issue was similarly painful. Enough!
Sounds good, but….
You do save fees vs other brick and mortar banks. However, there are significant downsides to an only-online-bank. Examples: you can never get a certified check (in any timely fashion), you can never get a $100 bill for a graduation or wedding card, never able to cash in loose change, never able to exchange currency for a foreign trip and never able to make a cash deposit!
Specific to Ally, their “alert” system is horrific at best! If THEY suspect fraud on your account/card-you won’t know until you try to use it and get declined. Then try calling!! Wait time is 10 mins minimum, usually closer to 20 mins. Only to get no resolution in the first call.
I gave them one extra star bc they do refund ATM fees up to $10 a month.
Oh, and twice now when I select I want to participate in the end-of-call-survey, the agent doesn’t hang up… and kept the call open for over 40 mins! Smooth move! That avoids any negative feedback!
Excellent bank!
Excellent bank!! I've had nothing but a great experience with ally!! I would recommend this bank to everyone!!
Ally used to be great but now a shadow…
Ally used to be great but now a shadow of it former self , The huge decline in value is mainly caused by the poor customer support and bad interest rate , i paid $3k to Pay Mine , i got back $4k earnings in a jiffy . Time is money and the right information is vital for speed . Ally needs to improve .
HORRIBLE!!
Wow! I have no words left. I have been an Ally customer for over a decade. They used to be great. Now they are HORRIBLE!! I have spent over 20hrs of my time trying to correct their errors to no avail. I’m done. Time to find a new bank.
Tread carefully, not flexible during hardships
Long post ahead and I regret doing something like this since I myself work in customer service however I need consumers to be aware.
In November of this past year I started experiencing some financial hardship. I remember calling Ally with a pencil and paper in hand so I can notate what I need to do moving forward. I spoke with a kind gentleman who guided me to call back that Monday to request a 6 month hardship program. When I call back, I am told this is not something they offer and the response was almost as if I was crazy for requesting such a thing (as if I made it up). I became angry. I took specific notes and was instructed by that agent and allegedly they couldn’t assist. After expressing my concerns and speaking with two managers, there was “nothing they could do”.
I called back two more times after being late on my payment and finally the hardship program was offered - After me being late and extremely stressed out by the conflicting info I was receiving previously.
Fast forward to recent, I got notification from the credit bureaus that I am late my payments. I thought to myself, I’m in a hardship program how is this possible? Well, what the agents regretted to inform me is, there is NO grace period. If you do not make your payment during your statement month regardless if it’s a single day past your due date it’s reported as LATE. I was maybe late at most 4 days.
So truly, if you do business with this company ensue you can pay on time. They do not care in the slightest if you are in a hardship even if you have been a good paying customer for years.
It’s so frustrating being in this situation and the fact I was proactively looking for solutions and they caused me so much stress. If there’s one thing about me is, I understand I have obligations and take accountability for my faults however, they need to be held responsible for their misinformation and also withholding information as that is deceptive.
They are not customer centric during times of difficulty.
I unfortunately will have to take additional steps to ensure the negative reporting is taken off which they let me know is to write a physical letter and take screenshots and send to their physical address. Just to cause more stress and to clearly make it difficult.
In conclusion, tread carefully with this company.
this bank is terrible
this bank is terrible. zelle is not instant. check deposits take 5 business days. I can only withdraw 300 in cash and a limit of 1k it takes forver to even get the 1k out. I'm closing this ASAP update 2/13/26 my online account is locked because password is wrong yeah right how is it wrong when its saved to my phone and the password was set less than a month ago. f this bank. I am moving to sofi or capital one. making me wait 1- 2 business days to unlock my app during a 3 day weekend. S H I T. They are now saying 2 checks over 2k are fraud even though they are coming straight from my home insurance due to a flood I had in October. I can cash my check within 6 months and they questioned that. I cant even withdrawal my money from the atm anymore which my money is money I transfered from my credit union
Opened a savings account account and…
Opened a savings account account and after I finally got to talk to someone they said my money would not show up or transfer for 5 more days ! I’ve already waited 2 days. As soon as my money shows up I am transferring back out of this bank. I also sent numerous messages with only an auto reply back. Same with the chat feature. No one ever replied. When I do call and go through the prompts it says I don’t even have a savings account which is scary bc they have $500.00 of my money !!! Stay away from this bank !!!!
Negative stars if I could give em
Negative stars if I could give em. Never in life sign up with Ally. They denied my bank transfer 3 times for no reason. Then after the third time they suspended my account for 6 months. Now I can’t access my funds.
If i could give 0 stars i would
If i could give 0 stars i would. Bank with anyone else and save yourself a tremendous hassle .. except for maybe BOFA. They might be just as bad lol
Big Ally fan!
I’ve been a faithful Ally user for years. I love the app and how I can personalize the savings bucket to my goals. The savings percent is one of the highest out there AND I just watched season 10 of Queer Eye where they donated money to the boat family so they can renovate their boathouse on their timeline, and I’m so proud to be an Ally banker after seeing that. I love that they’re willing to sponsor a deserving family and on a show like Queer Eye <3
Ally has had my zelle in review for 10…
Ally has had my zelle in review for 10 days even though I told them it was a mistake made by me they still won't reactivate my zelle nor allow me to transfer money from one account into another so that I can pay my automatic bills. I am currently trying to change my accounts to another bank. I wouldn't bank with them anymore

fraud started on Dec10,2025 after over 1 month finally resolved issue-monies trfr back to my account. Decided to change acct numbers as equities trfr to new account the thousands of dollar in dividends were NOT trfr. Now 2 more weeks and NO resolution in this matter-thousands of dollars sitting in a "black hole" somewhere in Ally. 6 weeks ,dozens of calls (including many disconnects) and I still do not know or understand wher thousands of my dollars are. I am always told 2-3 business days and weeks have gone by. I suggestt you look for another brokerage house as I will upon reconcilliation of this mess.
Transferring Account Out - Very Happy to Leave
Very happy to say after a number of years I'm finally transferring my savings account out. I have never had so many difficulties with a bank as Ally. They make it extremely difficult to do anything. When you call them it takes so long to get out of the automated service to speak with a person and they ask you the same questions over and over. I am so happy to leave.
Ally sucks
Ally sucks. I've been with Ally since 2009 and they've just steadily gone downhill. And what's worse is you can't even leave reviews for them and they know it. They used to have the absolute best customer service and now it's all AI junk and completely checked out staff. You can't even call without talking to an AI who can't understand what you're looking for, so it's a complete waste of time to try to contact them - and they know it. It took them 2 weeks to get me checks (i never use them and had to for a work thing), they have no idea how their system even works so I had one event where it took a week to find a transaction because at the time they didn't keep a years worth of data. What bank doesn't keep a year's worth of data?? They STILL don't keep a years worth of data for things like zelle transfers. They used to cover fraudulent charges and identity theft and overnight you a new card, and now that doesn't happen. When I was traveling internationally, they made me call them and tell them every single city and country I was going to be in because they had to "manually add it to their system" - WHY??? And even despite that, they STILL blocked by card while I was in another country and I had NO money and they refused to unblock it and overnight a new card, leaving me stranded in a foreign country with no money. It's just a slow slide to the same crappy service as every other bank. I highly recommend credit unions if you can get a checking account at one of those. DO NOT use Ally. I just pulled all my money from them and putting it into a credit union where you can actually have some semblance of control over your money.
