I am disputing an auto loan that I didn’t have

I am disputing an auto loan that I did not authorize. I did NOT purchase a vehicle from BMW of Roseville, yet Ally Auto sent letters claiming I owe $1,083.43 (due December 19, 2025) and then $2,221.03 (due January 19, 2026) with added interest. They also threatened to send the debt to collections.
I contacted the dealership three times by phone and visited in person three times. They confirmed that I did not buy a car but did not provide written confirmation. Despite this, Ally Auto continues to demand payment and reports the debt inaccurately.
This situation has caused stress and could affect my credit history. I request that Ally Auto correct all records, stop collection activity, and provide written confirmation that the debt is invalid.

In this day and age (21st century) most…

In this day and age (21st century) most lending agency’s use ACH, electronic transfers, etc. Ally, they use a camel with wagon. Knowing what we know now they could offer us 0% interest for 30 years and we wouldn’t take it. Stay away from this group, they don’t have customers in their interest.

CROOKS!!! unethical and dishonest!!

This So called Bank is run by a bunch of crooks!! My wife sent a bank issued check to payoff a credit card. Ally received the check, cashed the check, but failed to credit my wife's account.
We call to inquire about the check, send them a copy of the check with proof that it had been cashed, and their response is "We have to do an investigation that may take up to two weeks" This is absolutely unacceptable!! We will never do any kind of business with these crooks!! Their customer service is horrible, and their banking and money handling processes are borderline criminal!!! I cannot express to you all that this "financial institutions" is extremely dishonest and untrustworthy!! I wouldn't recommend them to ANYONE!!!

Worst bank ever

Worst bank ever. If I could give zero stars I would. Your money is not safe, and if you ever have a situation with their fraud department, you might as well consider your money unretrievable. If that's not bad enough, their customer service is so unhelpful I am very surprised they're still in business.

Make it hard to break up and leave

BEWARE: NOT EASY to break up with this online bank. Note: your personal info, soc sec # etc. are kept in their system for 7 YEARS after closing an account; you cannot request a 'purge of data' any earlier.

HISTORY: Set up online account 4.5 years ago (easy and convenient to create) but never used nor funded account. Logged in 4 years after opening to confirm it had been closed since was still able to log in on Ally website. Site states must call or write to 'close account.'

Called customer service, after 10 minute wait (not bad given during holiday season) spoke to representative (FYI - Ally has offshore customer reps w/English as second language and despite a good ear to decipher most accents, very challenging to understand). Was told account was closed. Asked for proof since I could still log in online. Took nearly 45 minutes speaking w/rep to get them to PROMISE to provide confirmation in writing - stating it had been closed. During call repeatedly put on silent hold for long periods of time (3-7 minutes). Could have gone better had rep explained some of what they were doing, that they were putting me on hold each time they did and that there would be prolonged silence. Conclusion: a PDF (cancellation letter) will be available 1-2 days via Ally profile that can be printed.

After this one (albeit limited) experience, VERY grateful never used this bank.

Credit card is a joke

I have been with Ally credit card for a few years. There was a few different times. I made my payment and they froze the crediting of the fonts while they verified payment for seven days the last time being this past April, they said there would never be any more issues with my account I made two payments this past month paying off my card completely because I needed to use the card for vacation for some odd reason they put a hold on the payment again I called. They have no clue why there’s a hold on it. I explained to them the money was taken out of my account and they kept giving me the runaround about how I had to wait nine days before it would be clear so they ruined my vacation because I could not use my credit card that I use my only money to pay off the bill. Customer service is the worst. They don’t care about their customers. There are so many better options out there with companies that care about customers the only excuse I got from them is maybe they frozen because I made a $400 payment. I can’t believe that was even their answer. They don’t increase your credit. This place is the worst. I recommend anybody getting any credit card other than ally

Pathetic customer service

I needed some info today about purchasing a CD from Ally and was cut off two times during our conversation and the problem wasn't on my end. I couldn't even understand the first "rep" and the second one obviously didn't have a good working knowledge of the Ally website. I was obviously speaking with a foreign outsourced call center which just doesn't work for me when I'm dealing with my savings and financial issues. So I'm essential done with Ally and will soon be switching to another financial institution who I feel more comfortable with and provides better service.

A strange little bank...

If all you need is checking and savings, Ally is fine. In fact, their interest rates are very good. Heaven forbid you should want an IRA, or some exotic variant like a SEP IRA CD. At first they told me they did not have that product. Then, months later, I randomly found an advertisement for that exact product. I signed up and every thing was basically ok, but a little clumsy and not very modern in making contributions, etc. Despite this, the account information was straight-forward and the rates were good, so I decided to merge some other SEP IRA accounts into the Ally accounts. The answer? No way. We cannot do that. But why? Long story short, I got four different versions of why, and the last one said they do not manage SEP IRA accounts. Period. So, now I am trying to transfer my phantom, non-existent accounts out of Ally into another investment company. Even that is running into problems. Who knows what nightmares await me tomorrow. Overall, I regret having opened accounts with Ally. The worst part is never knowing exactly what they are doing. It's like Uncle Joe's bank in Hooterville.

Complete and utter incompetence

I have banked with Ally for years and the used to be awesome! Now they don’t deserve even half a star.
I had no access to my account because I’m working in Europe without a US phone number. A couple of months ago there were some fraudulent charges on my savings account which I’ve had for years but which they forced me to close and open a new one.
I got an email asking me to call - no clue why - and when I eventually got through they said my checking account had been suspended and no payments allowed in or out! So….unbeknownst to me my two life insurance premiums hadn’t been paid since August! No communications about it at all! So after 46 minutes on the phone (from Europe) the guy hangs up on me having done literally nothing about my checking account issue or my inability to log on (he said he could reset my account for multi factor authentification but didn’t and then just disappeared.
Absolute incompetence. I will be beyond upset if my insurance company has now cancelled my two life insurance policies because of their sheer ineptitude (I’ve been paying these since 2005)
You couldn’t get any more incompetent as a bank

I was a victim of fraud

I was a victim of fraud. I contacted ally bank and instead of helping me they closed my account. They caused me more problems because now I can't pay for all my bills and payments since they held all my money. So I ended up paying over $2000 more in late and cancellation fees.

Irresponsible, rude, and feckless fraud claims dept, loses information and slow walks responses

I have an excellent payment history with Ally online bank. Recently, my computer was hacked and two large fraudulent charges were made on my Ally credit card. I contacted the source of the charge and confirmed the person who hacked me. The source also acknowledged that the charges were fraudulent charges. I called Ally to file a fraud claim for the two charges and they did not follow through. A week later, the fraud charges were still on my account and being reported to the credit bureaus. I called Ally again and they had no notice of my first call. I filed another fraud claim to remove the two fraud charges. It took almost three weeks to remove one of two fraud charges. They had no information that I requested removal of two. It has been over two weeks since I called a third time and nothing has been done to remove the 2nd fraudulent charge. I filed a dispute against Ally with Transunion, but nothing has been done. And the fraud dept at Ally is rude, feckless, and irresponsible. Ally is the worst banking service that I have ever seen. I am paying off my account and will close asap.

Horrible customer support

I was very excited to try Ally’s HYSA, but never had a chance. It takes them days to receive a bank transfer, and they do not account for holidays when establishing transfer deadlines. If they close your account, it cannot be reopened. Their customer support is slow, useless, and rude. I was on the phone with them for 30 min and could barely hear the representative.

One star is too much

One star is too much. They are horrible, and there is no physical office to go and get assistance. The last call, I could not understand the representative and then just kept repeating themselves, talked over me, and didn't listen. I had to call three times just to get through to someone who could answer a question, but not help in a solution.

My Ally Bank account was frozen…

My Ally Bank account was frozen approximately 10 days ago. I have called Ally Bank customer service every single day for the past 10 days attempting to resolve this issue.
Each time I call, I am required to pass automated "out-of-pocket" security questions before I can speak
with any representative.

I have been unable to pass these security questions.
As a result, Ally Bank has refused to allow me to speak with any representative or provide any alternative
method of identity verification.

I have been completely denied access to my own funds for over 10 days despite daily good-faith attempts to resolve this matter.

Missing the Mark

My card info was stolen and the bank told me that it would take 10 days to settle it . No other option. In this day and climate, this bank completely misses the mark on people's needs. Fraudulent activity is clear, and yet they will do nothing to help.
